Avatar n tn Hello, I see that you are having the problem of chronic urticaria. It is defined as urticaria that persists for longer than 6 weeks. In most of the cases of chronic urticaria, the underlying pathology is idiopathic i.e it is not linked to any cause. It is essential to rule out the presence of serious illnesses of which recurring hives can be a symptom. Examples are hepatitis, hyperthyroidism, lymphomas, collagen vascular diseases, and cancers of the rectum, kidneys and gastrointestinal tract.
Avatar n tn Hi everyone, My name is Krista. I am 25 years old. About 9 months ago I was diagnosed with CIU. Around the time I started getting the hives, I also had a low grade fever and a "general ill" feeling for about 3 weeks before. A little medical background: I also have anxiety, panic disorder, depression, and HSV II "of other site" (meaning i get it on my leg). I first was started on Cetirizine, 10 mg. When that didn't help, I was started on a whole handful of pills.
Avatar f tn I have a little more insight for you...get the tests, see an endo, and get an ultrasound of your thyroid. Ive had urticaria for 3 years. Allergist didnt even check for autoimmune disease. After years of symptoms and blood work normal, they have found 2 nodules and goiter on thyroid. Definate link.
Avatar n tn I tried Doxepin too and had to stop because of the side effects, I have urticaria too and take some Reactine, Benadryl, Zantac and on some treatment that works for me, you don't know what his causing the urticaria????
Avatar m tn I've had itching from the chest up including neck, shoulders, face, scalp for 10 years now. I've had biopsies that show urticaria and have tried every medication known to man. I've also had ANA and thyroid tests which were all negative. Has anyone ever been completely cured from this horrible itching??? I'm at my wit's end here!
Avatar f tn One month ago ( around the time that I stopped nursing my 10-month-old) I started getting random lip swelling. From there it turned into itchy hives all over my body. I got a lot of blood work done for my allergist and immunologist everything came back normal but my CU index (chronic urticaria) was slightly elevated suggesting it's autoimmune response. He tested for a large variety of autoimmune disorders. The doctor is treating my symptoms with Zantac, Zyrtec, and Singulair.

4477719 tn?1355188618 Hello, 2 weeks ago I broke out in hives and have ruled out the usual suspects food, laundry soap, medications.I break out after my showers mainly it just the redness not so much the itching they will usually dissapear through out the day unless something touches my skin the the redness and some itching come back. They seem to get worse at night more itching.
Avatar n tn You could be having urticaria. They usually last for more than six weeks. They are triggered when certain cells (mast cells) release histamine causing rash. The single most effective therapy for any allergic reactions is to avoid the triggers or avoid exposure to them. Environmental triggers for allergic reactions like changes in weather, temperature and water sources are difficult to avoid, but being aware can help you take adequate precautions.
Avatar m tn I have had chronic hives and hashimoto's for about 14 years. Thyroid is some what stable i have been on the same dose of meds for 6 years now. Hives on the other hand get harder and harder to control. What can I do? If you remove the thyroid will the autoimmune responce stop? Avatar n tn The levels of thyroid peroxidase antibody were high (675).I have been referred back to my internist for further evaluation and am scheduled for a thyroid sonogram. My questions are: Could the high antibody levels cause the urticaria? Do antibody levels remain elevated after treatment with radioactive iodine? If so , for how long?
1517808 tn?1290813790 some days its hard to walk and makes my job very difficult. i have heard of a medication called Kynatomine which is used for treatement of the liver, but heard good things about it in the treatment for hives. if anybody has any info on this or other treatments that worked for them it would be greatly appreciated. thank you.
Avatar n tn She diagnosed me with Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria. I was in and out of the hospital for months. Each time the hives would continue to get worse. My throat would swell. I've had to inject myself with the epipen because of it. Was on steroids on and off. My daily medications were Allegra, Zantac twice a day, Claritin, Singulair, and four doxepins at night which just managed the itching but didn't stop the hives. I got pregnant again and the hives stopped.
Avatar m tn Has anyone gotten a diagnosis or relief. I've been having the same problems with hives and major heartburn for 1 1/2 months. This discussion is related to Sudden Bout of Hives, Acid Reflux, Dizziness, etc.....
Avatar n tn but im thinking of trying zantac for her the least doisage possible just to cjeck if it will reduce the spitting and the crankiness after feeds, but i also don't want her tummy to get used to it since my self i have been on omeprazole for years and can't live without it.. it's only during my pregnancy that I have changed to zantac and in severe cases pariet or lanzor.
7349088 tn?1390657733 Has anyone taken zantac during pregnancy for heartburn? I'm 22+5 and have heartburn almost every other day. Sometimes it's so bad that I just want to sleep so i don't feel it.
Avatar m tn Water urticaria, also known as aquagenic urticaria and aquagenous urticaria, is an extremely rare form of physical urticaria. It is sometimes described as an allergy. In affected persons, water on the skin causes hives to appear within 15 minutes and last for up to two hours. Water contact can cause aquagenic urticaria, presumably due to chlorine or some other trace chemical in the water, hence you don't exhibit reactions to distilled water.
3055148 tn?1368211800 Has anyone ever taken Zantac? My doctor told me to take that everyday instead of taking tums b/c they are pointless, but I kinda don't wanna take medicine.
Avatar n tn My doctor is telling me to give my 7 year old Zantac for a kidney infection, but I can't find any information on whether or not this is a proper treatment- I just want to be sure??
Avatar m tn s keeping me from working which is really screwing up my life. I have also been suffering form urticaria for about a year now. To reduce confusion, I'm just going to start from the beginning. I preemptively apologize for the length of this post, but I feel that I need to include all the details. You may want to read the symptoms listed at the bottom first. In January, 09 I was forced to move back in with my parents due to financial constraints.
