Avatar m tn I'm a stay at home mom with a similar (but not exact) experience to your daughter, so take my suggestion for what it's worth. I had chronic hives since childhood. It was undiagnosed until my 20s. My new allergist said people with dermagraphism (my form of chronic hives) was frequently a side symptom of an auto-immune disease. He tested me for 6 different ones, and I came back positive for Hashimotos (my immune system attacks my thyroid).
1517808 tn?1290813790 Over time, I stopped taking the Zyrtec and Zantac. Now I am only taking the Doxepin. This seems to control everything pretty well. My doctor also told me about Plaquenil, which was a medication for lupus patients but also works well with my condition. However, the Plaquenil is known for some side effects that could lead to retinal spotting, so regular eye exams are required and he recommends not taking it for extensive periods of time. I hope this helps!
Avatar m tn I am now taking 2 mulitvitamins a day and 1000 IU of Vitamin D along with 6 Zyrtec and 2 Zantac and I am still breaking out every day! I have only been taking the vitamins for a week, so I am seeing if that will work eventually, but this is so frustrating! Help!!!!!
1102308 tn?1257806648 A combination of beta blockers, Zyrtec and Zantac helped with my hives.
Avatar n tn I have had the same problem. I had never had hives or any sort of allergic reaction to anything before about 8 months ago. I woke up with hives covering my neck, face, back, and torso. Since, then, every single day, without fail, I have broken out in hives. Like yours, they vary in size, severity, when they occur, even sometimes shape. I have been to countless doctors.
Avatar f tn I am currently taking 1 Zantac 150 mg in the morning and night, 1 allegra in the morning, 2 zyrtec at night, and benedryl every 4 hours. I can not go outside in the day time, I can not workout, I can not eat hot/spicy foods, I can not get heated up or over heated, and I can't even have sex without getting hives. The pain is the worst when I have sex. Regardless, the pain is always horrible.
Avatar f tn I should also mention, that these hives show up randomly all day at any given point in the day. I will wake up fine and then randomly I was itchy, only to look down and see the start of them on my arms and shoulders. My husband doesn't have any hives/rashes, and we do live with 4 cats and 1 dog but according to my allergy test I am not allergic to them.
Avatar f tn Simple moisturizing creams, wet soaks, calamine lotions etc are generally enough to soothe the symptoms of hives of pregnancy. Try these along with Zyrtec. Zyrtec also causes hives, sounds strange when it is used for the cure. It is also possible that Zyrtec is aggravating your hives. Please take a skin test or RAST test to know what you are allergic to. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult an allergy specialist.
Avatar m tn I have been breaking out with hives on my hands and feet for a couple years now. after family doctor visits, a skin doctor visit and finally an algernist. I now know I am alergic to many things - the worst being dust mites and certain kinds of molds. I have always had algeries to most the rest of the things that I am alergic too. just now in the last two years with the advent in my life of my newest pet dog according to my algernist the dog is the final trigger that got the hives coming on.
Avatar m tn i take zyrtec, allegra and alervert all day every day as my doctor told me for my hives .some days its real bad and others are very good. ive had no effects from the mixture.
Avatar f tn ve had blood and skin tests done for allergies, but they have all come back perfectly normal -- no allergies. I am on Zyrtec and Zantac right now, but my body is becoming accustomed to it and the swelling and hives are worsening. It is a very irritating and unpredictable problem and I feel that I need a doctor who will take the time to investigate this.
Avatar f tn He tested for a large variety of autoimmune disorders. The doctor is treating my symptoms with Zantac, Zyrtec, and Singulair. I still wake up to hives every morning. And do not get any new ones during the day. I want to solve the problem at the source. Can anyone help me?
Avatar f tn m terrified that I will never feel good again-it was easier before I knew I had this disorder because I just accepted feeling crappy as a part of daily life for me. I am currently taking Claritin, Zyrtec, Zantac 150, Naproxen 1000mg, and Seroquel (chronic insomnia) along with the Levothyroxine. Just here for some support, and grateful to not feel so alone anymore.
Avatar f tn I have seen a Dermatologist who says I need to accept the fact that I will not know what is causing the hives and to treat the hives (allegra and zantac) I have seen the Allergist who wants to check for an autoimmune disease which I don't understand because Hashimotos is an autoimmune disease or problem I thought. My thyroid doctor says there is no link between the thyroid and the hives and has taken a leave of abscence from his practice.
620048 tn?1358018235 I have been having hives for a few momths and have been seeing my Drs. for awhile now. I had steroid infections twice and it knocks it out the next day but you can not have them very often. And I have been taking antihistamines the whole time but I am trying different ones hoping, like Melissa, that one will work. Other than that I stll have no answers. Its not that easy I am finding out. But I can't sleep, which i have trouble with anyway,. I posted a pic of one leg on here...
Avatar f tn Everything was on outer areas only. I found out my boyfriend cheated on me with multiple people, got tested for STDs, and came back negative for everything. It's been about a month and the bumps did not spread, hurt, blister, etc. They look like pimples but with nothing inside them- just raised skin. If I pop one, it bleeds for a few seconds and then stops and that's it. No pain, burning, or spreading.
Avatar f tn Hello, I had hyperthryoid symptoms for a couple weeks, including racing pulse, flushed face, restless, increased bowl movements and persistent hives. These symptoms improved except for the hives. Recent blood test showed 7.5 TSH, TPO ab 381, Thyrodlobulin ab 51 and Free T4 is at 1.3, normal. All other blood work, CBC, normal. This looks like Hashimotos. Can a person first have hyperthyroid symptoms and then go to Hashimotos? I also have persistent hives.
Avatar m tn I currently take a multivitamin, 2-3 zyrtec, 2 prednisone, and 1 zantac in the am with breakfast. I have read about L-lysine and have taken some with food but not regularly. I'm about to try drinking Green Tea and see if that helps with the symptoms. I really feel for those who have suffered w/ hives many of years. I don't know how you do it!! I've only had them periodically for 4 weeks and it's about driving me mad!
610453 tn?1259104722 I take Zyrtec and Flonase. I also take Zantac. I have Pepsid, but don't take it as it doesn't help heartburn much. So are you saying I should return to the Pepcid? What about my Zyrtec? Should I switch to Benadryl? This is wonderful information! Do you have the internet link for the study?
Avatar f tn For pretty much the past 6 or 7 years, I constantly break out in hives whenever I touch anything. It could be that I sit on a chair and get hives on my thighs or open the fridge and get hives on my hands. I've gone to a dermatolagist several times, but even after a scratch test and everything, we've found no reasons for my random breakouts. I'm currently on Allegra and have been for years. I've tried claritin, zyrtec, etc. I need to know what ttis is and how to stop it!
Avatar f tn The hives returned when I stopped the Prednisone so I am back to the cyproheptadine, Zyrtec and Zantac. I am sure my hives are autoimmune related since I had them and the angioedema back when I was 10 years old. Having read the many experiences of others, I am going to try some probiotics since that couldn't hurt and I am desperate. If you can tolerate Prednisone, it is worth having a break from the chronic hives because the hives can drive you crazy. It is good to get some relief.
Avatar n tn I just found the post from the other woman who gets hives after giving birth. This happens to me as well. I got hives/eczema within a few weeks of giving birth in 2006 to my first child. They went away in a couple of months. I had another baby 12 weeks ago, and the hives have been even worse this time. Biopsy shows that it's the same reaction as last time. They are much, much itchier than anything I have ever experienced.
Avatar m tn I had protected sex about two and a half months back, I'm having on and off symptoms. 1. Low grade fever (Food poisoning) Happens once. 2. Rash, Looks like Hives (I've never had Hives before) 3. Diarrhea, happens after I took medication? (Amoxicillin) 4. Inflame Tonsils (Mild pain, no coughing) These symptoms doesn't come all at once. The rash happens out of nowhere and it's freaking me out, I took zyrtec and it took care of it.
Avatar f tn I have tried to go without Zyrtec for 24 hours and my legs started to itch in white little patches (like mosquito bites) and thats when I know I still have it. Iam going to see the Specialist next week for the 2nd time to see my blood results, so will let you know how that goes and hopefully have a cure.
Avatar f tn I have red patches everywhere and everything that is red or itchng hurts. they gave me all of these creams and nothing works i am currently taking zantac and zyrtec which do nothing at all. I'm only 19 years ols is there anything that you know! it came out of the blue and i just wish it would go away because its getting to the point where it irritates every nerve of me i cant sit in class too long or i'll itch i cant talk or be around ppl too long or i'll itch.
Avatar f tn I've been getting hives for the past year or so. It comes fast and disappears fast. It can occur anywhere on the body, mainly on my arms and back. I often get an outbreak in summer and heat triggers it (eg: I can't go into a spa as my body will have a breakout straight away).
Avatar m tn Months ago my ALT was 26. I stopped using Zyrtec, and my doctor told me to use Atarax. However, its been a week and the rash is still the same. I am very worried about it. What shall I do?
