Common Questions and Answers about Zantac and infant gerd

zantac

1330108 tn?1333677304 I know there are several of you ladies who have had your fair share of the challenges with GERD in their infant. Help!! Ellie was born preemie and shows classic signs of GERD. I had her at the dr she is gaining weight we got the spitting up under control by slowing her feedings and sitting her upright for 20min after meals.
1330108 tn?1333677304 s son had the GERD pretty bad and had to take tons of meds from Zantac to some gas drops. He would get sick no matter what we tried and did that for his entire first year. The bad thing was that he had to remain on baby food and formula longer than normal cuz his little system was so sensitive. My sons had it awful but my nephew (poor little thing) had it worse. I hope she gets over it soon cuz once she does...
Avatar f tn My 18 week old baby girl has gerd although zantac has taken away the pain and carobel somewhat helps the vomiting. She is only 11lb 4oz and is in the 2nd centile. She only takes 4 5oz bottles of nutramigen 1 each day and when I try to give her more she just vomits it up due to her reflux. However she has extreme flatulence at night from 11pm right through until 7am. It is constance, is foul smelling and doesnt stop with the result neither she nor I sleep.
Avatar f tn This too after so much of encouragement. What could be wrong with her. Her doc said she might have GERD and she is on Zantac for a week now with no improvment.
Avatar f tn Intense heat can get to anyone, just like you and I may not feel well after being in the heat. It may be that the heat is upsetting her stomach. If you notice that she is spitting up a lot more when in the heat than when in the air, I would keep her inside. Bummer for you but better for her.
Avatar m tn The fact that it felt better after taking Zantac 150 mg, indicates that you might be experiencing GERD. Take the Zantac for two weeks, eliminate fried foods and spicy foods from your diet. See if this does not help your heartburn. If your throat gets worse, get a culture! Your doctor is trying to treat you for two things: GERD and a bacterial infection. He will refer you to a GI doctor only if your GI symptoms continue or worsen, even with the Zantac.
Avatar n tn In addition to what LivinginHope said first and then I wanted to add I was on Zantac 150 for about 4 months and I had no side effects at all. I have a benign arrhythmia (PACS) and so it depends on the person and if you take it long term. I have to go back on it again. But my doctor said not to stay on it all the time. Rather, to stay on it for a while then go off and on. But, I would definitely report this to your doc.
Avatar n tn I came across a happenstance. I was dx with Gerd in 1999 and was on zantac which after much time cleared up and zantac was stopped. Starting in 2001 I happened to get an SVT episode. In 2006 I had an afib episode and would have about 5 with each progressing year treated with verapamil "pill in the pocket".
Avatar m tn I have a hiatus hernia and gerd and I take nexium. Recently I started coughing ?acid or saliva while sleeping. It is annoying and wakes me up. However I find it is relieved by emptying my bladder, why is this? Do I need to worry?
692001 tn?1236562462 With the right guidance, you can be free of the GERD and the palpitations that come with the GERD or the medications for GERD. My brother has similar food issues, he found out, so now he feels better with his GERD, too. I don't think he has as many food sensitivities as I do, but he has found out that most of the people in his immediate family have some of the same issues with the biggest items on the elimination diet list.
Avatar f tn t zantac but it is the same ingredient you drop it in a half cup water and it foams up and you quickly drink it. It is OTC. If zantac is safe this should be too. Thanks so much. Also i read that taking any antacid like tums and rolaids can have a reaction with the prozac. Is this true i was too scared to try Tums.
Avatar f tn Hey aberleytrei91, I have had that on and off scratchy throat from GERD off and on for years. I tried a gluten free diet and my GERD went away. I have stopped taking my proton pump inhibitors for awhile now. I would suggest to stop carbonated sodas, caffeine, alcohol, citrus, dairy, tomatoes, peppers and potatoes and gluten for 1 week. Then reintroduce only gluten products for a day or two and see how you feel. Continue your PPI during this time. If your symptoms come back it is gluten.
Avatar f tn This may be contributing to your increased breathing problems at night. Zantac and Prilosec might take a little time to work, and if the Symbicort is causing an increase in your stomach acid, it could be harder to control the GERD at night. If you feel this is the case, talk to your doctor.
Avatar m tn If so are H2 meds like Pepcid and Zantac ok, or are PPI meds like Prilosec and Prevacid better? Thanks and have a great day!
Avatar m tn Can you please tell me if you can take Nexium 40mg. and Zantac 75mg. together or on the same day. My GI doctor has me on Nexium 40mg. and my PCP wants me to take Zantac 75mg. at night before I go to bed. Is it safe, and can I take it with Xanax 1mg. I have GERDS and Barrett's Esophagus. And they both think it mjght be causing these little pinpoint pimples in my mouth, tongue, and throat.
Avatar m tn Take Prevacid as example, if you start from 30mg qd, then step 2 is 30mg odd days and 15mg even days, step 3 is 15mg per day, step 4 is 15mg odd days and Zantac even days, step 5 is Zantac every day, step 6 is Zantac odd days and antacid even days, step 7 is antacid every day, step 8 is antacid as needed. You need to make sure there is no acid rebound every step of the tapering process. I'm told to stay on PPI for at least a year when I will get another upper endoscopy.
Avatar n tn Hi......Zantac is not an antidepressant it's prescribed for heartburn. Is there another medication she's been prescribed that maybe you got confused with the Zantac?
Avatar f tn ve never gotten GERD once in my life for any reason. But about a week and a half after the procedure I developed pretty bad Gerd. I then went to a GI specialist who is seeing me for my hunger issues but i mentioned to him thr GERD. I stressed pretty strongly that ive never had it before even once and now all of a sudden i have it every day pretty badly eben when jsut drinking water or not eating. He prescribed me Zantac twice a day.
Avatar n tn I went to a GI and she prescribed me with nexium in the morning (I usually take nexium everytime my gerd acts up) and zantac in the evening before bedtime. The next day, we went to my pulmonologist for my routine checkup, since I had primary spontaneous pneumothorax last november.
Avatar f tn The tightness in my throat makes it feel as if someone has their hand on my throat and occasionally makes me feel like I am not getting enough air when I am having no problems breathing. I am being treated for GERD (Zantac 150mg twice a day) and allergies (NasalCrom four times a day). I also use a neti pot once a day which has basically eliminated my post-nasal drip, and the NasalCrom helps with swelling. I still experience reflux on the Zantac, it just does not hurt.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Gerd in 2013 since then i have taken omperazole, nexium, zantac basically anything i could afford since the insurance stopped covering it. Ive had issues here an there with dysphia but lately it has gotten worse. I always cut my food in tiny bites i take my time in fact my kids pick on me cause i take so long to eat. But in the past 2 days i have had the issue 3 times. My new dr only wants me to try omperazole for another 3 months then she's sending me back to the gi dr.
1444053 tn?1365456815 thanks Selma, I seen my gyno specialist last week and was told to stop motilium immediatly, she has never used them for GERD and suggests I stick to pariet and maybe zantac not motilium. They are actually used for the GERD but this is a side effect in some unlucky people like me.
Avatar n tn I was able to nurse her with in an hour after delivery and right from the start I noticed that she would only eat for 5min (vs her brother who was a chow hound from the start as a newborn). Even as a 2-3 day old infant she would only want to eat for 5 min and then was full and had a good self schedule of every 2-3hrs like clock work. What also struck me as odd was how many poop diapers I changed vs. pee diapers with in the first 24-48hrs of life.
Avatar n tn I have MS and one major problem I have is GERD, hiatal hernia, and gastroparesis. I have finally found relief for the constipation that goes with this. I now take 2 omeprazole a day, 4 domperidone--a motility drug, and a Zantac before bed. I have tried ginger capsules and all kinds of natural supplements, plus tums, etc. Any suggestions? I have had a bezoar when digestion just stopped, gall bladder out--infection in that. I feel like I have morning sickness all the time!
Avatar m tn It is best to manage GERD with diet and life style changes if you can. I also take a digestive enzyme and probiotic. I took a double dose of the probiotic for about 2 - 3 months a while back after taking a lot of antibiotics. That got my reflux under much better control. Let me know if you have any more questions. Take care and feel better. God bless.
