Avatar m tn My medical conditions are listed as possible reasons for disappearing lunula moons - hypothyroidism and vitamin B12 deficiency. I have corrected my B12 but my hypothyroid issues continue...the drama~! lol Not sure about the white section is due to but could be related to thyroid. Do you have any symptoms?
Avatar f tn Did you bang your finger nail recently? Usually with a nutrient deficiency a number of nails would be distorted. At 12 years old, you need to eat 2200-2000 calories per day and have a variety of food that includes starches, meats, fruit and vegetables. The fresher the fruits and vegetables, the better nutritional value. If your mother is concerned, suggest going to your MD and getting your blood tested. It will indicate if any nutrient, vitamin or mineral is deficient or not.
Avatar f tn This sounds like a possible nutritional deficiency. Do you have ridges that run across your fingernails? In any case, mention this to your dr at your next visit because our hair and nails are a direct reflection of our nutrition status.
Avatar n tn I had a pretty significant vitamin B deficiency causing megaloblastic anemia and required shots weekly for several months...Also, I have had problems with highs and lows of calcium, iron, and magnesium...I had a hair analysis done which revealed no heavy metal toxicities, but a deficiency in molybnium (? sp), copper, and nickle...and of course, low ferritin (showed in blood tests too)...My doc believes I have a borderline malabsorption problem and a low intrinsic factor...Something inherited...
550622 tn?1247656720 My Endo has prescribed for me to take 50,000 IU of Vitamin once a week for three months due to a Vitamin D deficiency (level was 16). Has anyone else been diagnosed with this and taken that high amount of Vitamin D? I have Graves Disease, but am currently in remission. The Endo does lab work every 2 months and keeps close tabs on my progress. Thanks for any comments!
Avatar n tn Metabolic listed as one cause, vitamin deficiency, but rule out iron overload before taking any supplements as the iron in multi-vitamins if you have an iron loading issue, will make the problem worse. http://voices.yahoo.com/why-peeling-fingernails-health-concern-women-6831310.html Iron overload is way more common than anyone knows, even the medical community. www.irondisorders.
Avatar f tn Hair fall, split nails and sore tongue can be due to iron deficiency anemia, pernicious anemia and other B-vitamin deficiencies. Hence taking only folinic acid will not help. You must get your blood tested for iron, vitamin B12 and folic acid deficiency. Depending on the test results you have to start appropriate supplements. You can discuss with your treating doctor. Take care!
Avatar m tn First of all, you should not forget to take your B12 supplements at all, as a deficiency of this valuable vitamin is really dangerous for you. B12 deficiency causes dementia, which could be a reason that you forget the medications. So you must be careful about completing the course as per your doctor's prescription. Secondly, two main reasons of pale stool are gallstones and hepatitis. So you shouldn't ignore these symptoms at all. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I had a vitamin D deficiency prior to getting pregnant. I was supposed to be taking a 4,000 supplement but forgot a lot. So my levels continued to drop & now they prescribed me a weekly vitamin D 50,000 (thats not a typo!) Im a first time Mom too & was concerned about too much D but apparently our bodies need bunches. If you are having that bad of a reaction I would definitely talk with your doc! Good luck!!
Avatar f tn Have you been checked for vitamin deficiency?
Avatar f tn I had numbness from vitamin B12 deficiency. This deficiency is easy to misdiagnose as doctors don't routinely test for it and labs are too low in most countries which miss a deficiency state. I would recommend sublingual (under the tongue) B12 to see if you improve. Not treating B12 deficiency can result in permanent nerve damage.
Avatar f tn Vitamin D deficiency lowers the immune system and can throw off the balance of other vitamins/minerals/etc. Are you taking an iron supplement or eating high iron foods with orange juice and taking Vitamin C? I take my iron with Lysine & the above and 1 teaspoon organic unfiltered Bragg apple cider vinegar (has 'the Mother'). It helps with absorption and stomach acid.
Avatar m tn Examine your fingernails. There are many signs in the fingernails that can show internal deficiencies. If the tip of the nail is spooned, it may indicate low iron or B-12. Pitting brown spots may indicate vitamin C or folic acid depletion. Longitudinal striations are often recognized as a sign of general malabsorption. White spots or marks can indicate low zinc or calcium. Nails that are thin and splitting can suggest magnesium, copper or essential fatty acid deficiency.
Avatar n tn Iron deficiency and Vit B deficiency may cause some nail changes. Take vitamin C and B supplements. Take food high in calcium eg dairy products ,eggs ,milk green and leafy vegetables. Also increase consumption of lean meat.
Avatar m tn Anaemia can cause nails to turn pale so this may be what is causing your nail colour changes. Iron, vitamin B12, vitamin B6 and folic acid anaemias are listed causes of low neutrophils. You mention clubbed fingers and digestive issues. Gastrointestinal causes of clubbed nails include celiac disease, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis. Anaemia is a common symptom of these diseases due to poor absorption in the digestive tract.
Avatar n tn I have this from vitamin D deficiency. As my vitamin D levels are still low (and i forget sometimes to take my supplements lol) i am reminded when i have to keep clearing my throat due to excess mucus. Ugh! The mucus is gone within days of supplementing with vitamin D thankfully.
Avatar m tn I have excess phlegm than vitamin D deficiency. I have this deficiency again and hello excessive throat clearing and excess morning phlegm. Ugh! Thankfully i know what is the problem is. I am taking 2000IU of vitamin D daily now and slowly seeing an improvement. I am trying to aim for optimal vitamin D of 200nmol/L or 80ng/mL. My last lot of labs was 50nmol/L (20ng/mL) although i've been down to 30nmol/L (12ng/mL).
Avatar f tn I just recently read that if you have b12 deficiency you may have trouble becoming pregnant or supporting a healthy baby through the pregnancy. there have been multiple times i should have gotten pregnant but i didn't and i thought i was infertile. I think i have the B12 deficiency because just recently i started taking a B-complex vitamin. i took it every day at the same time for a week and now my period is about a week late.
417564 tn?1287982827 It seems very common to get a cold/flu while detoxing/withdrawing - could this be because of the vitamin deficiency our bodies suffer from? Incorporating a strong vitamin program in with your detox helps to offset some of the more painful effects. It is in anyones best interest to research the Thomas recipe, and I believe it is Avisg journal that gives great info on proper dosage. (I need to check & make sure I am giving credit when it is due!
