yeast-infection

Avatar f tn Diflucan is usually the right drug, but it's not effective against all kinds of yeast, so if you're not getting better, call/see your MD. There are other kinds of antifungal meds other than Diflucan (generic: fluconazole) that work against fungal infections other than Candida. Candida is, I have read, the most common, but other kinds of yeast/fungus are becoming more common and so can't be disregarded.
Avatar n tn There is misinformation widely posted on the web saying that herpes and yeast can be confused with one another. This is true, but only in this way: A woman has genital itching, doesn't realize there are herpes sores, and assumes yeast is the cause. The symptoms recur from time to time, which can happen with yeast. When herpes is finally diagnosed sometime later, she then realizes that what she thought was yeast really was herpes.
Avatar m tn Welcome to our Forum. Before answering your question, I took a minute to look at the response you received from the HSV Community site and agree with the comments that they made. Newly acquired herpes typically appears 4-14 day as after exposure but when it does, most typically the lesions are discrete and have clusters of small blister-like lesions. The fact that your lesions have not evolved to blisters or ulcers again makes this unlikely.
Avatar m tn Regarding the overlap between yeast infections and genital HSV, the answer is yes, genital herpes can be mistaken for yeast, both by clinicians and by patients. AS for further testing. I'd suggest you get both a repeat HerpeSelct and a Biokit assay at the same time. If your HerpeSelect result was due to recently acquired infection the result will be considerably higher at this time and the Biokit will be positve as well. No need to wait to test.
Avatar f tn I read on the internet that vaginal yeast infections can be early signs of HIV infection in women. Is this true? Meaning, free of other systems would a vaginal yeast infection alone be a presenting or initial sign of HIV infection in the first six months or less since a hypothetical exposure?
Avatar m tn On April 14th I had unprotected intercourse with another woman. The days passed and I did not think much of this encounter until a couple of weeks after the event a rash appeared on my penis. I went to a GP on May 14th and took a blood test. The doctor thought it was herpes. A couple of days after my blood test I developed a sore throat, then a runny nose, then a slight fever with fatigue. I diagnosed this as a cold and did not think much of it.
Avatar m tn If your infection a couple weeks ago was professionally diagnosed, or if you have had professionally yeast infections in the past and your symptoms were as before, then that's probably what it was. (Typical symptoms means itching and irritation of the genital area as the main symptom, usually without much vaginal discharge, and without odor.) That said, yeast infections are not sexually transmitted and typically are not triggered by sex. If your symptoms were not typical -- e.g.
713383 tn?1232483914 His ears smell terrible, which leads me to believe he is getting chronic yeast infections in his ears. What causes this and is there some alternative, perhaps herbal supplement I can give him since traditional medicine seems to be failing? This has been going on for years now and they just keep coming back. I am wondering if they are ever really going away. I feel terrible for him and am desperate to help him. It is costing me a fortune and hasn't provided him with any relief.
Avatar m tn 30 days ago, i began to experience a light burning sensation on the tip of my penis. it was pretty mild (on a scale of 1 to 10 in irritation, it was about a 3) and i was able to ignore it. after several days, the burning went away for approx 3 days, but then returned again. once again, several days later, the burning went away for approx 3-4 days. the third time the burning came back, it was much more intense than before, this time about an 8 or 9 on the irritation scale.
Avatar n tn All web searches on yeast/fungus/candida infections in men seem to imply it occurs only on uncircumcised penises. Can it occur at all on a male who is circumcised? If a male has jock itch, can the penis be involved (itching), again -on a circumcised male?
Avatar m tn But now I want to get an IUD, and I am wondering if the IUD can be inserted during the presence of a yeast infection? I know certain infections are contraindications, but are yeast infections? I don't think they can spread to the cervix/uterus.
Avatar f tn Recurrent yeast infections are an all too common problem. They can be related to any number of circumstances including antibiotic therapy, diabetes, steroid medications, menses and stress. Very, very rarely they are resistant to fluconazole but that too is very unusual. My advice is to work through this with your doctor.
Avatar f tn Dr. Handsfield and I share the forum. You got me. FYI, the reason we share the forum is because we have worked together for nearly 30 years and while our verbiage styles vary, we have never disagreed on management strategies or advice to clients. The topic of herpes is a complex one. The disease is common with HSV-1 being present in over 60% of adults and HSV-2 (the virus which causes most genital herpes) being present in about 1 in 5 Americans.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had multiple yeast/BV infections? I've had 3 so far and I think I'm having another! I'm going to ob tomorrow and I'm sure I'll get some meds. It's frustrating. Anyone Else?!?! Please help.
Avatar f tn I was having servere pain in my middle back in the right side so at 1 am on the 5th I went to the er at that point was 22 weeks and 4 days they admitted me into labor and delivery where they found out the pain was due to a kidney infection they kept me on an IV with antibiotics until I was discharged this morning they sent me home with more antibiotics to take to finish fighting the infection but since I got home this morning my vagina has been kinda itchy when I itch it it hurts could that be a
Avatar f tn Monistat works like a charm for yeast infections! That's what my doctor told me I could take. Just over the counter. He recommended the 7-day treatment. Baby is protected by the bubble she's in, so the medication does not get to him/her. Perfectly safe! Unless as previously said, you have any other complications. I would talk to your doctor before you do anything. And like they said, anti biotics are needed for a bacterial infection. Good luck!
Avatar m tn Now, on to the yeast infection. While persons with advanced HIV do have increased numbers and severity of yeast infections, yeast infections are also VERY, VERY common skin infection. In your case, no only do I doubt that you have HIV at all but I am confident that you do not have advanced HIV. The vast majority of persons with yeast do not have HIV. In addition, it turns out that there are some yeast infections that do not respond to topical therapy for yeast.
Avatar f tn I'm 36 weeks pregnant. I gotten alot of yeast infections during my pregnancy. probably around 4 , Ive just got treated for one but I believe I got another again.
Avatar m tn The test came back negative but I still have consistent yeast. I wonder if the yeast infections mean my immune system is low. Was that a conclusive test result?
Avatar f tn Lastly, I would have a good talk with your MD about Diflucan- I did a lot of research into this med (all the scientific studies) and there are no good studies indicating that using it a few times at a dose of 150 or less to treat yeast infections are bad in the first trimester. Several Danish groups did studies and there was no increased risk of congenital issues period. The issues reported with diflucan have been long term treatment (>14 days) and higher doses (300mg+).
Avatar f tn hello...dosomebody kknow...diferents between-yeast infection and bacterial vaginosis?
Avatar n tn Im a ftm,17 Years old 24 weeks and new to everything and i think i have a yeast or urine infection, down there feels so raw it burns when i pee and im also spotting will this affect my baby
Avatar f tn You are correct that BC pills can increase yeast infections in some women. So can diabetes and taking antibiotics. Despite that, most persons with yeast infections do not have such risk factors. I would discuss this with your doctor.
