Common Questions and Answers about Yeast infections in dogs contagious

yeast-infection

Avatar f tn The insects live part of their lifecycles in the hair follicles and in the top layers of the skin in burrows. The most common kinds in dogs and cats are demodex and scabies. Scabies cause extreme itching and can be transmitted. Demodex mites are not contagious, usually. Both mites can be normal inhabitants of the skin in very low numbers. They don't cause problems unless they are in very high numbers.

1241045 tn?1268250883 Can you put tubes in dogs ears like children? She also gets yeast in between her toes and is always licking them. And the smell is aweful! I was told it could be allergies, but the test for dogs is expensive. We have tried changing her diet and she still gets ear infections.
Avatar f tn My dog is prone to getting yeast infections in her ears and i was wondering if i could use a ph balanced soap to clean her ears and what home remedies i can do to prevent infection?
Avatar m tn Ringworm is especially common in kittens and cats, while yeast and bacterial infections are more typical in dogs. The ears are lined with skin, so itchy ears in both dogs and cats are an extension of the same types of infections. Your veterinarian will need to make the correct diagnosis in order to properly treat the infection. However, one thing that vets don’t talk about much is why infection occurs.
Avatar m tn Are yeast/ fungus infections contagious ? And are they the same thing or different ?
1100598 tn?1413127426 My Holistic Vet prescribes it for ear infections and/or Yeast Infections.......I have used it for years before he ever made mention of it...... Other things for you to do: Add Wet food for at least one meal a day.....Extra moisture will help keep toxins flushed from her system and is vital for healthy organ function......No dog should live on dry food alone.... Next: You need to add a good probiotic to her meals....
Avatar f tn I know viral infections are not contagious, but I'm pretty sure bacterial infections are.
Avatar m tn several times over last 3 months with bacteria/yeast infections. Went for recheck and pointed out small tear that burned.( but was using boric acid for yeast daily that also burns). He swabbed and got neg result. Bloodwork was positive, however. Was I contagious during the time I was having infectons? Would he not have seen sores in me if were internal? My outbreak has only consisted of swelling, burning and that one minor cut that is now gone but burning persists.
Avatar f tn I would give it some time and see if it comes back before your boyfriend performs any kind of oral sex. Yeast and bacterial infections are contagious, do you really want him getting it in his mouth?!
5629636 tn?1371253040 I am heart broken over my dogs chronic ear infections. There has GOT to be something better that I can do to help her. She is absolutely miserable. We've done venison, bison, poultry, fish diets. I won't feed her anything beef because she's definitely allergic. We've given her prednisone, kentaconazole, used the antiseborrheic and cleansing solution, Surolan, Mometamax & Posatex. NOTHING works. My poor dog is miserable and I am in tears watching her go through this.
Avatar n tn yeast can be normal in dogs mouths so it could be contaminating the underwear. We can also have yeast in our mouths in low numbers too (normally). Yeast infections are not sexually transmitted but can be associated with oral sex. So you could actually transmit them to her that way and then infect yourself. So this is a complicated question. Also, you could be getting it from just sweating during sex. The moisture may be causing you to get yeast or another fungus like joch itch.
Avatar f tn another possibility is its a yeast infection, use some canestion in their ears, like in their ears, and try to put there ears up for a couple days to let air get at em
Avatar f tn ve dealt with odd rashes all of my life, mostly from soaps and detergents. About 2 years ago when I was in a relationship the guy told me that he would have this stuff on his back appear every once in a while and his doctor gave him special shampoo to control it. I never quite found out what it was. later into our relationship I noticed this rash on my back that just keep getting worse espeacially when it was hot outside and I was sweating.
Avatar n tn I recommend starting by taking your dog to your veterinarian for assessment of the itch and medication recommendations. The most common reasons for itchy skin in dogs include skin infections, microscopic skin parasites such as scabies mites, food allergy, or pollen/dust allergies. Since scabies mites are difficult to find, I trial treat dogs for scabies with Revolution every 2 weeks for 3 treatments.
Avatar f tn yeast infections are not contagious, contact with a partner may stimulate the yeast to grow too much.
Avatar m tn are yeast/fungus/bacteria infections contagious ?
Avatar f tn you can take precautions so that you don't pass it to your partner- like using condoms, taking suppressive therapy and avoiding sexual contact when you are having an outbreak.
Avatar m tn Have you tried Benedryl? I know that sounds too good to be true, but my dogs get the redness, puffiness, sores on their pads a couple of times a year, and it's attributed to seasonal allergies. My vet recommended I try Benedryl, and I've not looked back. I start in September, and they take it through November, then again in March through May (those are my girl's allergy seasons). Check with your vet on the dose, but it's gotta be worth a shot, right?
Avatar f tn My 9 month old lab keeps getting reoccuring yeast infections in his ear. The vet perscribed drops and a cleaning solution. We were able to clean them the first couple of times but now he won't let us come near him with the solution or drop.. He bites and barks at us. Giving him carrots, treats, his favorite bone to distract him doesn't work. Any idea how to help make this easier?
Avatar n tn Since I have been seeing him, I have been dealing with chronic bv and yeast infections, one constantly following the other. Last night it occurred to me that I may be getting this from him! Is this possible? He pretty much has given up on trying to treat it, and let's it just go out of control over the course of his body. I know this is not supposed to be contagious, but if spread to this degree, might this cause an exception?
Avatar n tn Margot makes a good point about yeast infections, which commonly occur in or around the ears, but also on other parts of the body. If your dog has been scratching his ears excessively, then there's an indication of a yeast infection. Also check his body all over looking for dry, reddish brown skin or areas that have become crusty in nature. You can ask your vet to perform a thyroid function test, which is easily done from a blood sample.
1429136 tn?1287209602 Also, lift the ear and take a whiff. It will small bad. You may need to take special care of your dogs ears. Those long droopy ears need regular cleaning and possible hair pulls. My last dog got chronic ear infections as a result of vaccinations. The vets couldn't clear up the infections. They kept giving me stronger and stronger medicine to the point where I was burning the inside of her ear. I finally took her to an acupuncturist that does animals.
Avatar n tn Foul odors in pet's ears are either yeast or bacterial infection or a combination of both. Much of the time ear infections are secondary to environmental or food allergies, or swimming. It would be best to have his ears checked by a vet who can perform a cytology, and/or a culture and sensitivity on the ear discharge.
Avatar f tn More than its a yeast infection the same thing happened to me with the infection then yeast infection it was really itchy.
Avatar f tn Oh man. No. Just be careful and don't swap spit or get too close. I had strep throat twice and an ear infection while pregnant with my daughter. I'm a strep magnet. If it's tonsilitis that he has just keep a good space and lysol when he leaves.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had multiple yeast/BV infections? I've had 3 so far and I think I'm having another! I'm going to ob tomorrow and I'm sure I'll get some meds. It's frustrating. Anyone Else?!?! Please help.
Avatar m tn I completely agree with everything skydnsr has said. Ear infections in dogs is very common, and almost always due to either mites or yeast infection and/or allergies of many kinds. The inner ears of a dog are fragile and susceptible to infection due to the close surface blood vessels. But the real question is, what is it that your dog has become allergic to (unless the reaction/inflammation has come from another dog or something else like due to diet).
