Common Questions and Answers about Yeast infection on my dog

yeast-infection

Avatar m tn My dog seems to be recently to itch alot. I have checked his skin and in some places it seems to be flaky and dry. I heard that it would be good to use "skin so soft" in the bath water or to just spray it on the dog. Is this a good spray to use? Or does anyone know of something else that works really well?
Avatar f tn Practice just holding the muzzle and placing treats in it so he gets used to eating out if it instead of just grabbing him and putting it on to do things he hates. My dog is the same way but if you get him to realize the muzzle doesn't always come out for bad things he'll be more accepting of it. Secondly your dog can be treat systemically for yeast infections with Fluconazole or Ketoconazole. Both are human drugs too so you can try online pharmacys like Costco.
Avatar n tn Is it possible for a female dog to get a yeast infection? She has been licking herself more than usual and I noticed she left a brownish discharge after sitting on a blanket. She doesn't whine or seem uncomfortable and is just as active as usual. Is there a homeopathic remedy that I can give her? BTW, she is spayed.
Avatar m tn My dog has a mild yeast infection in her left ear but she may have a tear in her eadrdrum. The vet gave us TrizEDTA but due to her losing her hearing from Tri-Otic, we didn't want to use any more ear medication that can cause hearing loss. I've recently started making her home cooked meals, wipe her down with apple cider vinegar+water, and flushing her ears out every other day plus cleaning the outer part of her ears on days I don't flush.
Avatar n tn This does sound a lot like Mange, to me. Does it smell 'mousy'? My dog got that once, caught from wild foxes on our country walks. It was solved quickly from skin scrapings, and treated with one shot. It does take a while for the scabs to heal afterwards, so the vet should give you some healing cream to keep the skin supple. Then it takes a while for the hair to grow back.
370181 tn?1595629445 My vet, who we have taken 23 years worth of animals to, will not let us make payments to help our dog who has a yeast infection in his ears and which seems to be spreading to the other creatures who allow us to live here. My dog is a rescued shepard/sheltie cross. He had been shot, beaten, legs broken and starved, then tossed into a snow covered field to wait for death to find him. Fortunately, a kindhearted farmer found him first.
5769293 tn?1373926011 The yeast infection could be due to an allergy. My dogs allergic to yeast and gets the infection. Does it have a foul odor? I would seek vet advice..
Avatar f tn Have you had the yeast cultured to see what kind it is? There is an ear medication called Otomax that is used to cure yeast infections in the ear and it is very effective against the Malassezia pachydermatis yeast organism. Why not talk to your vet about using Otomax if you have not yet tried it?
Avatar f tn Hi Savannah......What your describing is either a Bacterial infection or Yeast Infection.....I think the Yeast smells the worst! First, you need to find her a new Vet that will take this issue seriously! She is miserable and needs to be treated.....The Vet can actually do a skin scrap of the lesions and send it off to a lab to determine which problem it is.....Antibiotics are used for Bacreria (Usually Staph) and antifungals are used for yeast.....
Avatar n tn My dog did the same thing and the vet said she had a yeast infection and bacteria. It does need treated before it swells shut. My dog is on antibiotic and prednisone and an antifungal pill. We also have to put ointment in her ears. The vet said she would be on meds until atleast May. She has been on meds for 3 weeks already.
423279 tn?1203562853 I have an 8 year old Saint Bernard. He has always had bad ears with chronic yeast infectons. However for the past month he has had this horrible odor( not yeast) coming from his ear. It is only 1 ear & it obviously hurts because if I try to clean his ear he flexes up & doesn't want me to touch it. the drainage or wax has turned dark brown instead of the usual yellowish color.
Avatar n tn As the article says give the dog a bone. So maybe it gets on her skin and not into the vagina and then gets on you. But hard to say. Unless you handle her underwear and then touch yourself. These things can happen without thinking of the route of transmission. If you have any other questions feel free.
Avatar n tn You may also want to have the dog checked for a yeast infection and have thyroid checked. Regular Brushing is often better than frequent bathing. A friend of my daughter had a Basset Hound that always smelled no matter how often they bathed him or with what. He did end up having a thyroid problem. Just a thought.
Avatar f tn She seems to have an ear yeast infection as the symptoms she is having only match Yeast infection symptoms. I cannot afford a vet as I am already in debt with house bills, barely surviving on food and dog food for Bailey with just over $90, sometimes $100 a week. I don't want to have to euthanize her or give her away, she's all I have. If anyone can help me out with inexpensive solutions, please do. This dog is my heart and soul, really.
Avatar f tn Like 5 years ago I was young and stupid and I let my dog lick my girl privates , I always cleaned afterwards etc etc anyway, I have a chlamydia screening coming up and I’ve never had sex before and I’m terrified it’ll come back with positive results and it’ll be because I got chlamydia from my DOG.

14382159 tn?1434254768 My small dog scratches inside of her ear with Paw, then licks the paw off when she's done. I never gave it a second thought until someone told me that it might be a sign of food allergies. Could that be true? The person told me that a while back their vet told them that was a sign of a type of yeast infection in the ear due to food allergies. Any answers?
Avatar m tn Hi. I completely agree with everything skydnsr has said. Ear infections in dogs is very common, and almost always due to either mites or yeast infection and/or allergies of many kinds. The inner ears of a dog are fragile and susceptible to infection due to the close surface blood vessels. But the real question is, what is it that your dog has become allergic to (unless the reaction/inflammation has come from another dog or something else like due to diet).
Avatar n tn Nutrition Smart, and asked them what I could do for my dogs ear infection. I think my dog has allergies and his ears hurt...but his ears are fairly clean all of the time. There was a lady customer who heard me asking the clerk about ear infections. So in lieu of hearing me,, she said I use Oregano oil for my ear infections...so she explained how to use it. Let me say that this works! Take a coffee mug.. mix 50% / 50% of oregano oil and olive oil.
Avatar n tn My dog has a little reddness under his arm pits and just a little one on his chest, but for my dog it comes and goes. My vet gave me some time of lotion i place it on him it seems to help him. Maybe you should ask you vet about the lotion, im sorry i dont know the name of it. I hope this helps, i am not usually on this forum.
Avatar n tn If you have ever had a urinary tract infection you know how annoying and painful they can be. Please have a urinalysis performed on a fresh urine sample from your dog, and give her the appropriate antibiotic's prescribed by your vet.
Avatar f tn First, no need to worry. This is actually a bit more common than you may think. Cuts in that area may happen because the area could be too dry or to moist (weir). Also the cut doesn't cause the yeast infection. I think the yeast infection causes the cut. I use to have this problem very badly for about a year. It seemed as though once a month I would notice a cut and then I would get a yeast infection.
Avatar n tn From doing researching on the internet, I think my little dog has Black skin disease. He is about 6 years old. He constantly scratches. He had fleas about 6 months ago and was treated by the Vet. Now he is fleas free but has small black patches on the skin between his leg joints and stomach area. The hair has become thin in these areas also. The rest of his skin is red and scaly.
6570539 tn?1382536460 Sometimes, as in this case, it is the immune system that is simply too weak. I put my dog on a more expensive diet and supplemented with a wellness formula from pet-plicity. He is 18 months old now and he has come good.
