871111 tn?1248992972 It is certainly possible that your pug has an allergic cause for the ear infection and the brown stains on the jaw. Brownish staining of the fur can be due to tear or salivary staining, or to yeast skin infection, and so your veterinarian can perform microscopic analysis of the affected areas to look for yeast (malasezzia), and if yeast are identified then they can be treated with topical or oral antiyeast medications.
Avatar f tn Have you had the yeast cultured to see what kind it is? There is an ear medication called Otomax that is used to cure yeast infections in the ear and it is very effective against the Malassezia pachydermatis yeast organism. Why not talk to your vet about using Otomax if you have not yet tried it?
Avatar n tn s in both ears, it could be caused by allergies or he could have a yeast infection in his ears. A yeast infection, while not as easy to clear up as a run-of-the-mill ear infection, CAN be cured with medication. If it's allergies, however, it can be more difficult to treat because the first step in treating symptoms caused by allergies is to eliminate the allergen, which can be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
612551 tn?1450022175 My Westie has more than his share of skin problems, including Yeast infection which has been treated both with prescription and over-the-counter dog medicated shampoo. All this helps, but he continues to have some itch problem with his ears, which he can not lick, and the ear 'look" okay. He also continues to have some problem on his toes which I think is aggravated by his licking. In fact he can get the toes to show a "sun burn" red appearance.
Avatar m tn So, are two different things going on with her nose and rump and what is it? The rump area is spreading bad now! Please help.
Avatar f tn I went through the reoccuring ear infections with my lab also, although he is so good at letting me do anything to him. After many trips to the vet and several different madications prescribes, he still continued to get them. It sounds like you're going through the same thing so maybe I can save you several trips to the vet and some money. I gave up on everything the vet gave me and just used plain old apple cidar vinegar. You can also use peroxide. I also made some changes in his diet.
Avatar m tn My dog has a mild yeast infection in her left ear but she may have a tear in her eadrdrum. The vet gave us TrizEDTA but due to her losing her hearing from Tri-Otic, we didn't want to use any more ear medication that can cause hearing loss. I've recently started making her home cooked meals, wipe her down with apple cider vinegar+water, and flushing her ears out every other day plus cleaning the outer part of her ears on days I don't flush.
Avatar f tn As far as I know, anti biotics are useless against 'yeast' infection. 'Yeast' is a fungus. Anti biotics are useful against 'bacterial' infections only. And the over use of anti biotics can lead to yeast infections as the anti biotics break down the body's own natural defenses. Your use of the word 'prone' makes me wonder if she has received too many anti biotics. I would suggest that you try to build up 'her' natural defense system.
5769293 tn?1373926011 The yeast infection could be due to an allergy. My dogs allergic to yeast and gets the infection. Does it have a foul odor? I would seek vet advice..
Avatar m tn Does having headache, dizziness, blocked nose, feeling cold with recurring yeast infection has anything to do with STDs? Or do i have a case of the common flu. These symptoms have been there for almost a week now. Thanks.
Avatar n tn You may also want to have the dog checked for a yeast infection and have thyroid checked. Regular Brushing is often better than frequent bathing. A friend of my daughter had a Basset Hound that always smelled no matter how often they bathed him or with what. He did end up having a thyroid problem. Just a thought.
Avatar f tn It COULD be dried blood, but it could also be ear mite exudate, as a heavy infestation of ear mites will fill the ear canal with a dark brown waxy substance. She could also have a yeast infection, although a yeast infection would more than likely have some type of odor to it. Swabbing the ear and looking at the exudate under a microscope will determine whether or not there are mites present, and then the appropriate medication can be prescribed.
423279 tn?1203562853 I have an 8 year old Saint Bernard. He has always had bad ears with chronic yeast infectons. However for the past month he has had this horrible odor( not yeast) coming from his ear. It is only 1 ear & it obviously hurts because if I try to clean his ear he flexes up & doesn't want me to touch it. the drainage or wax has turned dark brown instead of the usual yellowish color.
Avatar m tn My neck does get tight and my wife who is a massage therapist, performs deep tissue massages on me and it does help relive the headaches, but not the overall pressure I experience. I do suffer with seasonal allergies from pollen etc... but I dont have any other allergy type symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, running nose, congestion, etc...My question is, can one have sinus problems due to say pet dander and allergies without all the other typical allergy symptoms?
Avatar n tn In a spray bottle combine equal parts water, baby oil and mouthwash (listerine or scope - we use mint flavor), shake it up and spray on the dogs paws about 1x per week. Both dogs paws are healing nicely.
Avatar n tn My experience with our Westie is he is a real stubborn and lovable character. He does like to adjust things, blankets for example and papers on the floor with his nose. He was a found in a park, lost and near starved dog when animal control picked him up, so he had some time trying to make his own way, find food and defend himself. That many have had a influence - it also damaged his hearing due to yeast infection, we think.
Avatar n tn I use a vet shampoo Malsorb I think it is called to help control yeast infection and for sensitive skin .. no perfumes, etc. My ShihTzu gets yeast odor very easily when not on this shampoo. Also has had the red you talk about and it was a moist yeast infection in my dog's case in the area you describe and cream for a week cleared it up ok. Then she ended up with that in her ears recently and liquid of the same med worked fine.
1429136 tn?1287209602 Hello & Welcome.....It's probably an Ear Infection or Yeast Infection....Both are quite common. If you've ever had an earache yourself, you know they are very painful! If it's a fungus such as yeast, usually really, really, itchy.... Ear Mites are also a possibility and common, too. They will drive the dog nuts till it's taken care of....The squealing means they must hurt bad! A trip to the Vet is needed......
Avatar f tn Anyway, about 2 weeks later I got a yeast infection, or what I thought was a yeast infection. It started with my vagina internally being sore and midly itched. I never looked in the mirror for bumps or lesions though, I just know i didn’t feel any. I had a whitish discharge that smelt like yeast. It may have been kind of yellowish, but i’m almost CERTAIN it was white and thick.
Avatar f tn My beagle was on that for his bacterial pyodermas, but also on Fluconazole for the yeast he had. There are different types of yeast/fungals, some will present with a lot of itching, redness, inflammation, just like us w/yeast infections, but no waxy stuff and others are this dark waxy stuff but not much itching. it's basically the same brownish yucky/stinky stuff they get in their ears.
Avatar m tn I had this happen to me once it's a yeast infection in your nose take 3 acidophiles tablets a day for 10 days and it will go away.
Avatar m tn I was on vacation and left him at a free range broading place for dogs..no other dog was really there, but he could have gotten it from there as well. Ill def check up on it.
Avatar f tn You are not taking an inhaled steroid which could cause a thrush (yeast) infection. You should see an ENT to see if there is some kind of an infection in your sinuses though. Also, try researching parosmia and phantosmia. They could be related to your problem.
Avatar n tn Hi, my 8 month old lab just recently developed a red spot on his nose. See the picture. Should I take him to the vet? Is this normal? Should I be worried?
Avatar m tn I completely agree with everything skydnsr has said. Ear infections in dogs is very common, and almost always due to either mites or yeast infection and/or allergies of many kinds. The inner ears of a dog are fragile and susceptible to infection due to the close surface blood vessels. But the real question is, what is it that your dog has become allergic to (unless the reaction/inflammation has come from another dog or something else like due to diet).
Avatar f tn The pigment in my 2 year old dogs nose is fading, his nose was jet black now it has a pink hue to it, is this normal?
