Avatar f tn Hi Yuki, So sorry to hear about your partner. I hope if he has decided to receive treatment that it was successful and you are both doing well. If not, there is no need to worry about you "catching" it from him. Prostate cancer is not the same as a cold or STD. Because cancer isn't a bacterial or viral infection, it does not spread between two people. Your own body can develop cancer, but he will not give it to you.

20620809 tn?1504362969 Screening offers a small potential benefit of reducing the chance of death from prostate cancer in some men. However, many men will experience potential harms of screening, including false-positive results that require additional testing and possible prostate biopsy; overdiagnosis and overtreatment; and treatment complications, such as incontinence and erectile dysfunction.

Nearly all men with metastatic prostate cancer eventually develop progressive disease after treatment with ADT. These men may still have clinically important responses to other hormonal interventions. Patients who have progressed on ADT and are not responsive to secondary hormonal therapies may benefit from chemotherapy.
Avatar m tn m aware that uncircumcised men are at a larger risk for penile cancer due to hpv than circumcised men, but am I correct in thinking that the risks of penile cancer for uncircumcised men, even with an hpv 16 infection are extremely low to the point that it should be something I don't concern myself with in the future? Should I adopt the same approach towards oropharyngeal cancers? Should I bother having regular checkups in those areas to ensure that no cancer has developed?

Avatar n tn Put another way, there isn’t a clear method by which we could estimate the risk of getting a prostate cancer diagnosis in this group of men which we are trying to compare with men who have a larger prostate. Men who have larger prostates and have symptoms would be more likely to get tested. With more advanced sampling techniques, the chances of receiving a cancer diagnosis seems much more common than it was in the past.
Avatar f tn (2) To answer your question, the actual survival benefit is hard to quantify on a case to case basis, however, several studies show that men with biopsy confirmed prostate cancer, especially high-grade cancer, benefit from definitive treatment (radical prostatectomy). Some signs to look out for would be urinary symptoms (frequency or urgency) and blood in the urine. It would be prudent to follow-up with a urologist. 1. Ashutosh Tewari, Jay D.

Avatar n tn Other conditions which can cause blood in the semen would include cancer (usually prostate cancer) or any traumatic injury to the genital tract. Prostate cancer most often happens to elderly men, not someone your age, so I'm not highly considering this condition.
Avatar f tn Usually the problem with having a biopsy to determine whether or not ones has cancer or not is that it may lead to unnecessary surgery and that could lead to more side effects than living with a slow growing tumor. Most men, even with a slight increase in their PSA do not die of prostate cancer, they die with some cancer in their prostate. A border line PSA between 4-10 doesn't mean you have cancer....the biggest indicator is the velocity of change in the PSA reading over time.

Later repeat in a month showed PSA range 4 - 2.
