423279 tn?1203562853 He has always had bad ears with chronic yeast infectons. However for the past month he has had this horrible odor( not yeast) coming from his ear. It is only 1 ear & it obviously hurts because if I try to clean his ear he flexes up & doesn't want me to touch it. the drainage or wax has turned dark brown instead of the usual yellowish color. I would have allready taken him to the vet but he doesn't do well with vets due to pevious bad experiences.
Avatar f tn My 9 month old lab keeps getting reoccuring yeast infections in his ear. The vet perscribed drops and a cleaning solution. We were able to clean them the first couple of times but now he won't let us come near him with the solution or drop.. He bites and barks at us. Giving him carrots, treats, his favorite bone to distract him doesn't work. Any idea how to help make this easier?
Avatar m tn My dog has a mild yeast infection in her left ear but she may have a tear in her eadrdrum. The vet gave us TrizEDTA but due to her losing her hearing from Tri-Otic, we didn't want to use any more ear medication that can cause hearing loss. I've recently started making her home cooked meals, wipe her down with apple cider vinegar+water, and flushing her ears out every other day plus cleaning the outer part of her ears on days I don't flush.
Avatar m tn I completely agree with everything skydnsr has said. Ear infections in dogs is very common, and almost always due to either mites or yeast infection and/or allergies of many kinds. The inner ears of a dog are fragile and susceptible to infection due to the close surface blood vessels. But the real question is, what is it that your dog has become allergic to (unless the reaction/inflammation has come from another dog or something else like due to diet).
Avatar f tn There is an ear medication called Otomax that is used to cure yeast infections in the ear and it is very effective against the Malassezia pachydermatis yeast organism. Why not talk to your vet about using Otomax if you have not yet tried it?
Avatar m tn how ever since couple of months she had developed an ear infection i think, she uesd scrath her ear every now n then, i went to vet and he only suggested me an antibiotic drop, but i feel it is not helping, her ear stinks very bad, vet said there may be water gone in her ear while giving her bath thats why this developed, i really don't know what to do any suggestions would be helpful Thanks, Deepanshu
Avatar f tn I love her dearly as she is the absolute only thing keeping me semi-happy in my current situation. She seems to have an ear yeast infection as the symptoms she is having only match Yeast infection symptoms. I cannot afford a vet as I am already in debt with house bills, barely surviving on food and dog food for Bailey with just over $90, sometimes $100 a week. I don't want to have to euthanize her or give her away, she's all I have.
370181 tn?1595629445 ) Fungal and/or yeast infections in the ear can make them extremely tender to touch, even around the ear itself. Hope your dog feels better.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Amoxicillin for an ear infection since 6/2. On Thursday, I began to feel like I was getting a yeast infection. No cottage cheese discharge, but lots of pain and itching. I have had many yeast infections in the past, which began this way. Should I treat with OTC meds?
Avatar f tn help with my beagle, she,s had been on antibiotics from surgery on leg , she has now developed irritation in skin folds around the vulva ....red and swollen pretty sure its yeast infection/fungal just wondering can I use human products like canestan/clotrimozole cream on that area.. would it hurt her if she licked the cream. I am taking her to the vet on Monday but in the meantime I would like to try ease the discomfort she is constantly licking the area.
Avatar f tn I think I have a yeast infection. I've been having white, chunky, sticky-ish discharge for the past few days, along with burning and discomfort. I stuck a finger into my vagina to see if there my be a problem or something, and before I get an inch in, I feel a ridgey.. ball? I guess you could say. It feels like it could be a build up of the discharge, but it kind of hurt when my nail touched it. Then again, everything down there hurts at the moment.
Avatar n tn It sounds like a yeast infection. Your dog will need antibiotics and a cleaning solution. It will NOT go away without the antibiotic, so please take him to the vet ASAP!
Avatar f tn I've been taking Keflex and Prednisone for an ear infection that I've had for 2 months (this is my 3rd antibiotic in the last 2 months) and I have developed a very red rash starting right below the opening of my vagina, the skin beside it(kinda the start of my ver inner butt cheek), all the way up to my anus. The rash is itchy and sore (esp on my anus). It looks like a severe diaper rash. I've seen this type of rash on a friends child who had an external yeast infection.
Avatar f tn As far as I know, anti biotics are useless against 'yeast' infection. 'Yeast' is a fungus. Anti biotics are useful against 'bacterial' infections only. And the over use of anti biotics can lead to yeast infections as the anti biotics break down the body's own natural defenses. Your use of the word 'prone' makes me wonder if she has received too many anti biotics. I would suggest that you try to build up 'her' natural defense system.
5769293 tn?1373926011 The yeast infection could be due to an allergy. My dogs allergic to yeast and gets the infection. Does it have a foul odor? I would seek vet advice..
403311 tn?1205951286 It is ear medication that treats yeast and bacteria otitis (ear infection). You can make a ear solution at home if your dog has a yeast infection in her ears. Use one tablespoon of vinegar in 1/2 cup of warm water. It should be either room temperature or slightly warmer since cold water in ears can cause inner ear problems.
1429136 tn?1287209602 Oral antibiotics are given is the ear infection is deep seeded....Otherwise, ointment for the ear is given for infection or yeast...Liquid drops for the ear are given for mites.... None of these will clear up on their own.....Ear infections left untreated can cause an ear drum to rupture and deafness can occur...Plus, again the pain is excruciating!! Been there, done that. ;) Please, have him evaluated very soon before it gets worse......Check back in and let us know how he doing......
Avatar f tn My experience with ear itch in dogs that do not have too much hair in the ear, is Yeast infections. This requires prescription medications to cure..and again in my experience with a Westie, it is an ongoing battle. Do the ears have a smell? That could indicate yeast.. is there any build up that you can see or wipe out with a cotton ball when using an ear wash solution - these solutions are specifically for the ears, and my contain Ketoconozole (sp?
1100598 tn?1413127426 Hi my 5 year old ShihTzu is on a Grain free diet (Merrick Before Grain-Buffalo) and is regularly groomed. Last month she developed a yeast infection in her ear. I took her to the vet who put some medication in her ear and gave her an allergy shot. She said that it is due to allergies to something. It cost me $100 for that visit. This month she developed a yeast infection in the other ear.
Avatar n tn Foul odors in pet's ears are either yeast or bacterial infection or a combination of both. Much of the time ear infections are secondary to environmental or food allergies, or swimming. It would be best to have his ears checked by a vet who can perform a cytology, and/or a culture and sensitivity on the ear discharge.
Avatar f tn Sounds like ear mites. Very common, and easy enough to get rid of. If not mites, it could be a yeast infection. Is there a sour smell coming from the ear? Is it both ears or just one? Ear mites don't look like little bugs. They actually look like a ton of brown/black ear wax. Go to 1800 pet meds and look under ear medications. Look for tresaderm. This will treat the mites. If it does have a foul smell to it, there is medication available on that site as well.
Avatar n tn The second time was in February and I had a sinus infection that clogged my throat, turned my eyes red and gave me an ear ache in my left ear. The third time was in April and I got bit by another bug while I was sleeping and once again it turned into lymphangitis. For the latest round of antibiotics I was outside last week in the middle of the afternoon and I looked down at my legs and there was a big rash going up my shin.
Avatar f tn I've had a skin infection for a month now as well as hives. First put on antibiotics but taken off after a few days and put on steriods as they believed hives were the issue and not an infection. The steriods helped the hives however the infection got worse. I'm now off the steriods after 5 day course, I have infected wounds all over my legs and arms and ear lobes, they have a yellow crust and red border, they are also very itchy.
Avatar n tn You need to make an appointment with your vet to see what the cause of the redness is. If it's in both ears, it could be caused by allergies or he could have a yeast infection in his ears. A yeast infection, while not as easy to clear up as a run-of-the-mill ear infection, CAN be cured with medication.
