Common Questions and Answers about Yaz and potassium levels

yaz

Avatar f tn Have you had your Potassium and Calcium and Vit. D levels checked? Yaz and Yasmine are not solely estrogen based and may cause elevated Potassium levels. I had low Vit. D levels and had muscle cramping and tingling from the low level. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Avatar f tn Here is a little something I pulled up while researching yaz problems Yaz and Yasmin are different from other birth control pills available in the United States because they contain drospirenone, a progestin which can increase blood potassium levels and increase the risk of: * Heart Attack * Stroke * Blood Clots: Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE) * Gallbladder Problems * Kidney Damage or Kidney Disease * Cardiac Arrhythmias * Sudden Death Call y
214529 tn?1333303619 Any way ive upped my potassium intake and take 1 600mg potassium supplement twice a day and have been run free for almost 2 months hope i dont jinx myself and take care!
1168718 tn?1464983535 If yes then they will be checking, if not please call the doctor and ask if you should take a potassium supplement and if they will be re-checking your levels. If you type in high potassium foods on your browser it will bring you up a list of things that you could make sure you have in your diet like bananas, potatoes etc. to help also.
Avatar f tn This could just be a one time thing though. You could be rechecked and your potassium is at a normal level. You should see your doctor and have the potassium rechecked. Sometimes while you are having your blood drawn, the blood can hemolyze and cause abnormal results due to the blood draw, meaning that it is not a true reading and should be redrawn. See your doctor. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Potassium is used to maintain a balance between chemical and electrical reactions in the body, potassium being an electrolyte. Excess Potassium is removed from the body by the Kidneys and so this would be a starting point. The Hormone aldosterone controls the rate at which the kidneys remove potassium, water and sodium from the blood and this hormone is a steriod type produced in the adrenal gland. Some medications as a side effect act as a aldosterone inhibitor.
Avatar f tn What are the symptoms of high potassium levels and low potassium levels? My dog is having kidney problems.
Avatar f tn m thinking these tests were useless due to the Yaz and that she needed the free levels checked but does the TSH look high? We have stopped the Yaz and will retest in a month or two. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, I am new to this forum. I was diagnosed with hypothyrioidism about 4 years ago. I started with Synthroid dosage of .025mcg and then had it raised to .05mcg about a year later. My TSH levels have always remained in the normal range. (0.5-3.0). About a year and half ago i started taking Yasmin Birth Control and since then my TSH levels have flucated tremendously and they can't seem to regulate my thyriod.... I'm either taking too much Synthroid or not enough.
1546132 tn?1293633801 The low levels of potassium could explain the blood pressure elevations and leg cramps. How does high iron levels affect potassium uptake/levels? Any help much appreciated!
Avatar n tn I am a 49 year old female in perimenopause. I have a history of migraines since starting my menses at age 13 years old. Been in perimenopause for the last 4 years. Four years ago began having panic attacks-one occurred during visit with GYN. I was place on low dose niravan for anxiety.
422425 tn?1307992990 I was hospitalized over the weekend with a VERY low potassium level, and other metabolic levels were also low. Just wondering if anyone else struggles to keep their numbers up. I take lasix for heart issues, but even without it I am still low. My vitamin D was also very low......just wondering if it could be an autoimmune issue.
Avatar f tn I have found a lot of information linking gallbladder disease with the BC pill Yaz. I myself have been going through some major health issues since about 2 months after I started taking the pill. Although the pill has cleared my acne and evened out my hormone levels, I've been to several doctors because of a pain in my right side. I've also had my appendix removed because of a misdiagnosis. Now my doctors are convinced that I have to have my gallbladder removed.
Avatar n tn m afraid to mess with mag levels because it may affect potassium levels, and what if it is the potassium in the bananas triggering my palps, so what if the magnesium actually does more harm than good? I pretty much don't know what to do, but I think I'm on the MVPS-connective tissue disorder-low magnesium spectrum, so I should probably be brave and try some.
Avatar n tn ve been browsing internet sites to gather information and saw that there is a link between high potassium levels and thyroid problems. My initial thyroid blood tests came up normal, TSH 1.47, T4Free 0.95 and T3,Free 312. my thyroglobulin antibodies were slightly high, at 21 and thyroid peroxidase antibodies were less than 10. The next blood labs, done in the hospital, were TSH .69, free T$ 0.74 and "normal" thyroid gland antibodies.
Avatar n tn I have not had any recent blood work done in the last four months her self but I am going to pull out those records from that time and see what potassium levels look like. There’s a great website at the mayo clinic about low potassium but I have yet to find an answer as to the relationship with the thyroid. I’m sure it’s there though I’m sure there’s a relationship just don’t know how.
212161 tn?1599427282 Palpitations due to premature ventricular beats is usually due to low potassium and/or low magnesium levels. Actually, magnesium level in your blood does not truly reflect the level inside your cells. Therefore, unless the level of magnesium in the blood is really low, you would not be given supplementation. Instead, you were given a potassium supplement because your potassium was at the low end.
Avatar n tn A multivitamin has magnesium in it so this should be fine. Potassium and magnesium levels often go together, and if there is a low potassium there also may be a low magnesium level. There are many websites that can educate you on foods that have high and safe levels of magnesium and potassium to incorporate in your diet. I would start with these conservative measures first.
358971 tn?1330888975 I was given metformin first off coz my blood glucose levels and insulin levels were all wrong (which is another side effect of PCOS in some cases - not necessarily all!) i haven't heard of it being dangerous anymore than any other drug is dangerous, obviously it has its side effects like everything else! did you consider asking for a second opinion on that one? Alot of people get metformin so I cant see how it's that dangerous! (i'm no medical expert tho!!
Avatar n tn Abnormal potassium levels may cause symptoms such as muscle cramps or weakness, nausea, diarrhea, frequent urination, dehydration, low blood pressure, confusion, irritability, paralysis, and changes in heart rhythm." It does not specify which side effects are from potassium being too high and which are associated with it being too low, but you could certainly google "potassium too high" and get some good information.
Avatar f tn I AM NOW SEEING ALOT OF LAWSUITS BEING ADVERTISED FOR YAZ....SIDEEFFECTS BEING BLOOD CLOTS, PULMONARY ISSUES AND SO ON ....HAS ANYONE HAD ISSUES WITH YAZ AND WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT....WHAT CAN I ALSO DO FOR THE MOODS...ANY SUGGESTIONS...
Avatar f tn Did your doctor tell you to take supplements to keep your levels up and/or eat foods that are rich in calcium, magnesium and potassium in order to avoid deficiency again? These are electrolytes and must be kept in balance with other electrolytes - sodium and chloride. Many of us have to take magnesium supplements to prevent symptoms of deficiency. Magnesium citrate seems to be the best type to take, as magnesium oxide is mostly good as a laxative.
