408448 tn?1286883821 The drug should act on the tumor in the same way that 5-FU does as it is basically converted into 5-FU inside the tumor. This should mean fewer GI side effects and less bone marrow supression as you don't have 5-FU in the rest of your body... Good luck with it.
Avatar n tn Your oncologist will prescribe drugs to alleviate the side effects of chemotherapy like nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea etc. Certain side effects like hair loss and mucositis are temporary and will reverse after the chemotherapy course is over. Other side effects like neuropathy, hearing loss etc are less common and dose dependant ie they depend on the total dose of the drug given.
484033 tn?1208516117 Hello: I just had a colon resection for a stage 2a tumor in the large colon. Thank God they found nothing in the liver, lungs, or 15 lymph nodes, but they want to follow up with "adjuvant" chemo. I might need the take home "pump yourself" type of treatment. I am very anxious about side effects. I don't do well with nausea and I have a phobia against vomiting. (ever since childhood). Any experiences you can relate?
Avatar f tn To determine if the increase in liver enzymes is due to side effects from Oncolet or from the recurrence of cancer metastases in the liver, an imaging procedure such as a CT scan or a liver ultrasound needs to be done first. If no metastatic nodules are seen on CT or ultrasound, then the possibility that the increase in liver enzymes is due to new lesions in the liver is already ruled out. the next thing to do is to temporarily withhold the daily intake of Oncolet.

5268376 tn?1406179712 I looked at Zithromax side effects, they vary by the dosage, single or multiple doses, doses in combination with another drug, and are listed as pre-marketing trials and post-marketing reports. Rhythm issues were reported less than 1% of the time in pre-marketing trials, and also in post-marketing reports. Post marketing reports are apparently voluntary and often include things clearly not related to the drug.
Avatar n tn you should talk with your health care team to understand when to call your doctor about side effects. Read more about managing side effects. The side effects from chemotherapy usually go away once treatment is finished.

Avatar m tn Mother (66F, colon CA IIIB) is starting her 4th round of XELOX (capecitabine+oxaliplatin) and has 4 more to go. Her neutrophils are naturally low (~1.6) without chemo (possibly related to the synthroid she has been taking since 2010?). By round 2 her neutro dropped to .6 so they gave her Neupogen and stopped capecitabine for 4 days. They gave her a longer-acting version of Neupogen before round 3 and lowered the dose of oxa to 90%. Before round 4 her neutro was back down at .9.
Avatar f tn I have been taking this medicine for the last 6+ weeks with little or no side effects. I am taking it orally (1X80mg capsule + 1X 20mg capsule) although it can be given by I.V. I take this once a week for 2 weeks and then nothing for the 3rd week. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Shielah.
Avatar f tn Dr. put her on Xeloda and Tykerb. She is on a 2 week on, 1 week off cycle. Her side effects have been severe. (i.e dehydration, throwing up, no appetite, mouth sores, nausea, you name it, she has it) Her last visit to the Dr. (she goes about twice a week) just yesterday, he told her (in her words) that "everything is shrinking, and you'll have to be on this for the rest of your life.
Avatar n tn g. Epirubicin) with less adverse effects on the heart. Another option would be to use classes of drugs which are entirely different from Doxorubicin and which are relatively safe for the heart. This includes the drugs vinorelbine, capecitabine, gemcitabine and the taxanes. Still another option, particularly if the cancer is at an early stage, would be to use hormonal treatment alone instead of chemotherapy.

Avatar f tn I cannot take infusion chemotheraphy for this as my side effects were so extreme the first time that Xeloda seems to be my only choice. However, I mostly would like to know what sort of bandages I could use if it breaks through and what can be done to diminish the rancid odor. This discussion is related to ulcerating tumor.
Avatar m tn The drugs involved are capecitabine and oxaliplatin, my instinct is to protect my remaining kidney by not exposing it to toxins it may have difficulty in clearing. Has anybody out there had a similar experience or has undergone chemo with similar complications?
Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with colon Cancer in Feb 2007. He took chemo drug Xeloda and had standard radiation. During a check up in January 2008, tumors were found in his lungs- one in each lung, sizes: 7mm and 13mm. He took chemo: Folfox, Avastin, Oxaliplatin, and Xeloda until April 2008. The April CT scan revealed that the tumors had grown slightly and that there were four more small nodules visable.
Avatar f tn I would suggest consulting you doctor for alternative brands for the same drug (capecitabine), that might be cheaper or considering alternative thereputic measures that you may be able to afford. It might also be a good idea to contact the social services in your region, if they would be in a position to help. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn My mom took Xeloda also as a maintenance drug for colorectal cancer. Typically diet and exercise do not affect CEA levels; however, inflammation can affect it. Sometimes CEA levels will rise if there is any type of inflammation. I know this is a scary time. Feel free to send me a message if you need to talk.
Avatar m tn have you googled this drug to see what the side effects are? My mother is 6 years older than your father and her colon had a tumor that went all the way through and they removed the tumour but has metastised to her liver and lungs. She is on xeloda oral chemo as a palliative treatment to try and control the symptoms. Her oncologist is absolutely wonderful and she didnt lay it on the line to my mother she is doing it as the need arises.
