xalatan

17644146 tn?1458782868 Does anyone take Xalatan? I picked up my new bottle of Xalatan today and I noticed the pharmacist didn't take it from the refrigerator, but took it off the shelf where she keeps all her prescriptions. I asked her if she shouldn't have had it in the refrigerator since yesterday when I called in the refill. She said one day out of the refrigerator would not harm the unopened Xalatan. When I got home I put it in my fridge.
Avatar m tn Xalatan (latanoprost) is the most widely used glaucoma medicine in the world. It has few side effects, it makes the lashes grow longer which most people don't mind. The package warning about changing iris color is only an iris with brown/blue mixed. The Azarga contains a beta blocker and that can cause a lot of problems: slow pulse, cold feet, loss of energy, low blood pressure, chronic cough, wheezing and the other ingredient bromonidine can cause red irritated eyes and eyelids.
Avatar n tn Alphagan is less expensive than Alphagan P. The difference is the preservative that is less irritating to some people with the "P" type. The IOP lowering capacity is the same. Xalatan (latanoprost) is often NOT used after intraocular surgery as it may increase inflammation and swelling in the macula. Home tonometry doesn't work for most people (scratched corneas, inaccurate readings, excess anxiety) discuss with the glaucoma specialist.
Avatar m tn So if people want to use the Lumigan drops instead of Latisse for whatever reason, lashes, etc and they don't have glaucoma, is it deemed safe to use? other than the known minor side effects that occur in some?
Avatar n tn ...I left out: Pfizer makes Xalatan. By the way, if you use pills, your MD (I doubt) will agree, because the drug is not concentrated in the eye, plus you have "systemic" side effects because the drug is running through your body (rather than staying mostly in the eye). Xalatan, and the others that are similar lower IOP more than other drug classes...you need to ask what your IOP is and see that it stays in the healthy range, since glaucoma damage can be permanent. However...
Avatar n tn It is safe, effective, inexpensive. It makes the eyelashes longer which women (and some men) love. Side effects are very rare. Darkening around the eyelids, and atrophy of the fat within the socket are extremely rare (they are however very common with Lumigan a stronger, longer lasting medicine in the same family and it is brand name and expensive). Iris color change is only a consideration in iris that are hazel a mix of blue and brown.
Avatar m tn l have been taking Xalatan for a year and there has'nt been any side effects except my eyes feeling a bit dry l have developed some floaters but my doctor says it most likley has nothing to do with the xalatan , but the past few weeks it has been starting to sting or feel a bit , sometimes l put in two drops at a time instead of one , could putting too much in cause this soreness, is there an eye drop such as a lubricant eye drop l could take that relieves the soreness.
Avatar n tn Yes. Makes sense. I guess I'm reluctant to commit to a "drug for life" scenario, with the inevitable side effects. I am 50 and takes no meds at all. But I guess you've got to start somewhere ...
274009 tn?1224434467 There are no serious long term side effects to being on those meds. You must have pretty severe glaucoma. Yes I wwould get a third opinion. Find one at www.aao.org Yes Lumigan, Xalatan and Travatan make eyelashes grow thick and long. Lumigan is being marketed as "Lumilash" for cosmetic reasons for just this purpose.
Avatar f tn Have used Xalatan for several years with no rash. Added Trusopt 1 year ago and about 3 months ago I started with a rash on eyelids. Dermatologist treated for contact dermatitis Fluticasone Propionate cream with little result. Opthamologist treated for blepharitis with an antibiotic cream and eyelid wash, again no relief. I tried using Xalatan in AM rather than at nite, no change. Tried just Trusopt AM and early PM, no change.
Avatar f tn Timolol is a beta blocker that is very inexpensive and works well for glaucoma BUT I use it last in my choice of the 4 times of glaucoma drops because of the potential for major side effects. It cannot be used in people with asthma or reactive airway disease, a history of slow heart rate (bradycardia) and can cause many problems like chronic cough, severe loss of energy, chronic nasal congestion (seems like sinus problem that won't go away), very cold extremeties, etc.
6218685 tn?1379633270 I was misdiagnosed as having pressure in my eyes and was given Latanoprost eye drops which I used for 5 days and my intuition told me to stop it and get a second and third opinion which I did. I then found out I did not need to be on Latanoprost and my eye pressure was normal. I am only 45 and never had a problem with dark circles under my eyes which developed two days after I started using the eye drops.
Avatar f tn If you still have it read the package insert that you get when you get a new bottle of medicine. Or go on the internet and read the side effects. I would be worried about being under the care of anyone that did not recognize these as common problems. If you see an optometrist I would suggest switching to an Eye MD ophthalmologist, if you see an ophthalmologist I would suggest getting a second or third opinion from a different Eye MD perhaps one that specializes in glaucoma.
Avatar f tn There should be significant visual recovery after a week and by one month it should be pretty well healed. My doctors do not like to use latanoprost after cataract surgery because it may increase the incidence of CME (macular edema). Dr. O.
Avatar n tn I have been using Xalatan for the last 6 months for my eye pressure which was 23 and now is around 17. Over the last 3-4 weeks I have eye pain in one of the eyes, consistent dull ache. I visited my Optho and had eye dilated and checked and everything looks fine. He changed the drops to Travatan. But the pain is still present after using travatan for like 2 weeks. What else can be the cause? What else should I try to find out?
Avatar m tn I HAVE BEEN TAKING COSOPT ABOUT 8AM AND 1100AM THEN I TAKE XALATAN ABOUT 9PM WORKING THE NIGHT SHIFT.MY PRESSURES WENT FROM 30S TO TEENS IS THAT OK?TO KEEP USING THOSE TIMES OR SHOULD I TAKE A COSOPT AT 8AM XALATAN AT 11AM AND ANOTHER COSOPT AT 9PM.?
17644146 tn?1458782868 I wonder if anyone was ever using the brand name Xalatan and then had to switch to the Greenstone generic brand (supposedly made by same company- Pfizer). If so has it worked okay? My insurance might not cover the brand name any longer, which I have been taking for about 30 years, and wants me to switch to generic. (Insurance company and pharmaceutical companies are driving me crazy with their prices, etc.
Avatar m tn I MISSED A COUPLE DOSES OF COSOPT AND XALATAN THE PAST MONTH SHOULD I JUST GO ON WITH MY REGULAR SCHEDULE/

Avatar m tn Hi, my doctor would like me to have SLT in one eye (has a test) to lower my IOP (Xalatan is not enough apparently)... I've red a couple of studies on SLT and some pretend that SLT is coutner indicated for Juvenile glaucoma (it could raise IOP instead of lowering it) I'm 31 years old... Any thoughts ?
Avatar n tn Dear Sir, I have retina detachments in both eyes after surgeries I had eye pressure problems but on last visit to doctor on wednesday my eye pressure were normal 14 (Right eye) and 9 (Left Eye) I am using using Cospt, Alphagan, Xalatan( Twice a day and Pilocarpine 2% six hourly.
Avatar f tn How much can Xalatan lower IOPs by? If it is not enough to get into safe figures, can other prostaglandins be tried? Is it realistic to hope that some of them will work for more than 2 or 3 years or is tolerance almost always built up to the drugs?
Avatar f tn They said that my cornea is really thick and my optic nerves are oddly shaped, but there is nothing to worry about at this time. I was prescribed latanoprost which I took and my eye pressure had decreased as it should at my follow up visit in January. Since then, I have undergone some heart testing due to having palpitations and I ended up going off of the latanoprost, with permission from my doctor. I haven't noticed a large difference in my eyes until recently.
1775444 tn?1319258310 ll work for me? Will it be safe (without side effects)? Will I get what I want? I am just being skeptic. Please tell me about it in details and also mention how long 'll it take to work.Where or how can I buy it (non USA)?
Avatar n tn Should I be treating with drops for a while (and the side effects) or is a better altrenative to do a careful wait and see approach?
