For six pack abs, quite frankly, most who have them don't get them through exercise -- it's a sure sign of steroid use, since the belly should have some fat. You'll never see agricultural or hunter-gatherer cultures with flat stomachs. Other than this, the above post is right on.

Avatar m tn Generally, you should take breaks when working on specific muscle groups. Give your abs at least a day of rest between each session, and you'll get better results. It gives your muscles time to heal, especially after an exhausting workout. I hope I helped!

Avatar n tn re working or why -- exercise can be for fun, for health, for losing weight, for getting oversized muscles, for performance in a sport -- so your entire workout would go a long way to answering this question. I personally don't think it matters much unless, say, you have a bad lower back, in which case you might want to wait to do abs for last so you can then ease up the stress on the lower back.

Avatar n tn Hey everyone. I was looking for an ab workout routine on the internet and I came across one of those old 'Eight Minute Abs' videos on Youtube. It was basically just eight minutes of different types of crunches so I figured it was as good a place as any to get started. So, I did the routine and I did, in fact, feel the burn so to speak in my abs. I'm in moderate physical shape and it was a bit difficult getting through the whole eight minutes, so I guess that's a good thing.

When I had my last daughter I got on the "Herbalife" diet and lost all my baby weight plus about 15 extra pounds but I want to consider other diets before getting on that strict "Herbalife" diet. It's hard for me because I am a picky eater, but I want to eat healthy!! Any suggestions?? What are your plans?

Like I said I've been disciplined and going every day, but I'm getting discouraged because I don't see my body changing.. I realize its only been a month but I am at it every single day, shouldn't I be seeing some results? My diet is healthy too, I have low blood sugar so I eat tons of protein.

Avatar m tn I only do 6-8 sets for my abs at each workout. I usually do 3-4 sets of crunches and 3-4 sets of hanging knee raises, 2-3 times per week. I let the dieting and the cardio work do the rest. Both of them combined help me eliminate all the unwanted body fat that's covering up the cuts in my abs.

Choose an exercise for the upper abs, one for the lower portion of the muscle and another for the obliques (love handle areas). For example do a giant set of crunches, reverse crunches and side jackknifes. This means you do one set of as many crunches as you can, then do as many reverse crunches and follow that with side jackknifes.
Avatar f tn So I've done tons of research about stomach fat and the best way to burn it is by a balanced diet and by drinking a lot of water and engaging in both cardio and strength training, but is there anything else? i workout usually everyday, at the least 5 times a week, very rarely 4. I eat quite heathy, taking in a lot of fruits and vegetables and trying to watch my serving sizes and portions.

Avatar n tn Ok, so this is kinda of hard to explain, but if you work out, before you lose the weight, i know obviously the fat has to go first , but after you do the workout everyday and then run evrryday aswell and eat properly, will your abs come through after all the workout, when you lose the fat? Or, is it a waste of time? Need an answer!
Avatar f tn Not sure about working out but I know a lot that worked up until they went into labor so that they could have more maternity leave with baby. If they didn't go until they went into labor they usually went up until a week or 2 before their due date.
Avatar f tn I am in good shape and exercise regularly but when I spend extra time on my lower abs particularly in my hips my muscles get extremely sore. I do not tire out easily while doing the exercise but when I am finished and sit down my muscles lock and sometimes I can not get back up or even lift my leg. One time it caused me to fall out of my car because my leg was locked in the sitting position at the hip. What could be causing this? What can I do?
Avatar f tn I am a bit confused about working out in the morning or evening is much more worth to do or not. I have been doing abs workout early in the morning (just for 5-8mins) cause I have to go to work and prepare my lunch box right after workout done. Now I am wondering if I should do my evening workout eg. Cardio-12mins, exercise using elliptical machine-20mins or butt workouts-5mins-8mins. I admit I feel so lazy and just tired after work and I always ended in the kitchen for dinner around 5.45-6pm.

The only thing I would do is to test your blood sugar before you workout and if it is anywhere near normal or low, I would just disconnect the pump or lower your basal rate for that hour. Your doctor can give you better guidelines on how to adjsut your insulin when you exercise. I have exercised with my pump and I have never had any problem, other than being in lousy shape. Those pumps are pretty sturdy and stay put pretty well.

Avatar f tn Any exercise helps in the long run (definitely for labor), just be careful to not over work yourself, take breaks and careful of the abs as you get farther along

I just want to lose weight to look better (to finally stop the ridicule and low self-esteem) and to prevent all of the horrible disorders/diseases like hypertension and diabetes that runs in my family.
Avatar f tn I love the pitates leg workout for the calves (learned through a video I know bad!!!) but I really think that it worked my calves as if I didn't do them regularly it killed my legs (in a wonderful love hate kinda way) I will look into the classes. I don't know if they have any around but I know I did the leg calf and the weight about the head (shaving) and I remember those I do them in my workout.
