Avatar n tn Hi, my husband gets calluses all over his hands. And then when he works the tear open and become very sore. He always wears gloves to try and protect his skin and keeps his hands lotioned regularily. But the calluses rip off and then the skin cracks and makes a sore. Is there a certain condition associated with this kind of thing? Does anyone know ways to help with calluses on hands? He can't stop working or rest his hands, and wearing the proper gloves doesn't seem to be working.
Avatar n tn In botany, the term is also used to announce a condition of thickened surfaces of leaves or other plant parts. Since repeated contact is required, calluses are most often found on hands or feet. Calluses are generally not harmful, but may sometimes lead to other problems, such as infection. First of all you must get this softer by using a mild soap and body wash. you may also use warm water for this.
1744052 tn?1311264549 Hello everyone, For a little background information, I've been working in a shipping/receiving department for the past 3 years, meaning I've been handling an extensive product variety from Indonesia, India, and China. I'm not always using gloves while unpacking, which is probably why this has happened. So as you can see in the photo, there's a small pit situated just above one of my calluses.
Avatar f tn So I've had these rough skin growths/calluses on the sides on my feet for a few years now. They are gross and ugly to say the least. And then there's these nasty looking dark discoloration on my ankles that I think have stemmed from callus things somehow >:( I can't even remember when they appeared there, or if they started out small and spread to how big they are now, or if they just appeared over night the way they are now.
Avatar m tn Hi, Hard skin can be caused by repeated pressure and friction against your skin, resulting in corns or calluses. It most often occurs on your hands and feet from activities such as walking or running in tight shoes, or even standing in one place, you possibly, unknowingly, are placing your weight more on that side, thus, causing more thickening of the skin. To help keep it from forming all the time, try these suggestions: wear thick, cushioned socks.
Avatar f tn ive been using EVERYTHING hypo-allergenic for 7 months, hand light therapy, anti-biotics,pure vaseline...all of this in 10 months and still wear gloves to do dishes, bath, bath my children, change diapers, clean,,,and wear cotton gloves any other time with somekind of cream lathered on..in 10 months i can count on 1 hand the amount of times ive been able to go without gloves on ...
Avatar n tn when i first started playing guitar my fingers would get extra skin that peeled, and after being around other musicians, i was told the fingers build calluses because of the strings, which explained why when i first started playing, my fingers were really sore, but once i got calluses, the strings didnt hurt my fingers anymore. i did end up with really thick calluses on my fingertips, but i loved playing guitar, so i didnt mind.
Avatar n tn Corns are usually hard and conical in shape while calluses are thickened layers of skin. Plantar warts look like calluses that are broad and with some black spots on them. Plantar warts may be found beneath calluses. I suggest you cease from manipulating the lesion. Seek consult with your dermatologist for proper management. Corns are painful and surgical removal may lead to longer recovery time. Warts may be treated with cryotherapy.
Avatar m tn Hi i wore some rubber gloves(yellow type for washing plates) and as i have bad excema some blood might have got onto the inside of the gloves, a member of my famil used them about 20 mins later and she had a cut on here hand(she was using the gloves to protect her cut) would my blood have been a risk to her. the reason i ask is because the gloves are airtight and some air would have been trapped inside the glove maybe preserving the blood.
Avatar m tn I went back to the hospital to talk to the doctor, he suggested physical therapy and that the pain may be because the Tibia and fibula are starting to join together, due to calcium calluses. HERE I BELIEVE LIES THE PROBLEM. The Fibula seems to be unaligned and the bottom half, which is closer to the Tibia, is joining together due to the calluses. (I have a picture I can upload or send of the X-ray) I walk around now, with a cane, but not for long periods of time.
Avatar m tn I have had problems with calluses on my heel of my foot. I have tried shaving off the callus and that seems to work but the past couple months ive had this patch that turns white when wet for a short period of time. I figured it was just the callus reacting to being wet but seems no matter how much I shave the skin off that area it doesnt go away. Ive shaved so much ive broken the skin. What should I do to get rid of this?
Avatar m tn i would use bag gloves...those heavy bags can get pretty bloody...funny...this is the first time i have thought about the blood on a heavy bag....our bags years ago always had blood on them...and of course its so nice to take the raps off to toughen up the skin...i was always bleeding at least a little blood got spotted on the bag...so since hep c can last for days dry..and since your hands may be bleeding a little..i guess i would use raps or bag gloves...
Avatar m tn My eight-year-old has developed two areas of raised skin, looking like two thin rough lines, about 1.5 cm in length, on her fingers. She does not write with this hand. The "calluses", for want of a better word, are not itchy. They feel like raised scratches. The GP gave a steroid cream, which has done nothing. Any ideas?
Avatar m tn I cut my left index finger on the second joint, its healed so there is no scab but the scar keeps callusing and it aches a little specially when i play bare chords on my guitar did it just heal wrong? might there be stuff in there still? or do calluses caused by cuts on your palm skin always keep callusing forever?

Avatar f tn I have been using Aquaphur ointment by neutragen(I believe) and rub in on my hands at night and use white cotton gloves to sleep. It does help to keep my hands from cracking which is painful. They have also said that quitting smoking does not remedy the problem. Wish you much luck. I have been fortunate that my feet are not affected.
Avatar n tn Sounds like you might be getting calluses. Do you play guitar or work with your hands?
Avatar f tn Rub sandpaper disks or pumice stone over hard thickened regions. Soak feet in warm soapy water to soften calluses. Then rub with a pumice stone and apply some moisturizer. If still the calluses persist, then pls go in for removal by surgical means or with keratolytic agents (medicines that break up hardened areas of skin). Shaving or cutting off the hardened area on the skin by a doctor is also helpful.
Avatar m tn ve played guitar long enough where I over time developed calluses on my finger tips. However, now for cello I need a callus on the side of my thumb for a certain technique but I don't have time to develop it for weeks or months. If I regularly cut away at my thumb with a razor or something will a callus still build by means of artificial friction ?
