Wisdom tooth oral surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Wisdom tooth oral surgery

teeth

Avatar n tn Outpt surgery under general anesthesia. The wisdom tooth was horizontal next to a cyst---the crown of the wisdom tooth was pushing against the tooth next to it. Not in to much pain, I'm taking clindamycin & oxycodone. Since the extraction, I have only taken 4 pain pills. Of course my face is still swollen, which is to be expected, but my tongue on the left side is still numb. My tongue still feels like is did the day of surgery. Which is scary--how long should I expect this?
Avatar f tn I am currently 15 weeks and 5 days pregnant and I just had my wisdom tooth pulled out. I am a little paranoid and I know i should trust my doctor( i guess cause hes only a dentist and not my OBGYN doc) when he said it was perfectly normal and no harm to the fetus , since the infection i had would have more effect on the baby then getting the tooth pulled. But he gave me an xray before hand and also penicillen(sp?) and told me to schedule a sonogram in a week anyways just in case.
Avatar m tn Thank Your for your input. I don't know where to begin. You say you had pain in your mouth prior to the surgery and worst after surgery, right? Well, I am not having any pain in my jaw, gum or wisdom tooth right now. It's too bad you are having too much pain and taking painkillers and antibiotics for it. When I open my jaw wide I hear little bone noises from my jaw.
Avatar n tn I had a wisdom tooth removed Monday..the doctor gave me no meds for pain. it is now Friday and my ears are blocked,my mouth hurts, and I have a slight fever..is this normal?
Avatar m tn Just left the office and the xray ended up showing four partially erupted wisdom teeth and then there is one that is impacted (or a tooth like mass), it is small and right next to my top left wisdom tooth. The dentist recommended general anesthesia and to be done in 2-4 weeks. Will attach the xrays when I get home.
Avatar n tn I am going to have my impacted wisdom tooth and another descending wisdom tooth pulled. They just came in. I have been having nothing but pains in my sinus/tooth/ear area ever since having a deep filling done, which turned into a root canal. It has been more than 2 months and I still feel awful? I am terrified to have the wisdom tooth surgery. Any chance my pains are related? I still have sensitivity in the root canal tooth, which my dentist told me was not possible. Ugh.
Avatar f tn 2 rounds of antibiotics due to abscess in the infected area (which still exists btw), I was told that the wisdom tooth needs to be removed by a surgery knowing that there is a high risk that my lower lip can numb for a few months or for lifetime & honestly that freaks me out!!
Avatar f tn Tooth pulled by oral surgeon. Old wisdom tooth should have been removed years ago. All went well, I found a great caring surgeon.
Avatar n tn Kirsch On Nov 27 I e-mailed a question concerning a wisdom tooth extraction that has left numbness( now 8 days past surgery date) in my lower lip, teeth, and chin on the left side. I neglected to mention that my age is 60 yrs. 11 mos. How much difference should this make in the extraction decision considering also that there was no problem with the tooth at the time. Thank you.
Avatar m tn I had my wisdom tooth(2) removed 6 days ago. my lower left lip and a few teeth are still feeling numb currently. is this numbness going to be temporary or permanent?
Avatar f tn Mary, Nerve injury to the tongue following wisdom tooth is a well known risk of the surgery. It may be unavoidable and can occur even when the surgery is done correctly. Less than 1% of those cases are permanent. Nerves heal very slowly especially in patients over 30 yrs. old. There are medications such as Neurontin and Tegretol which can relieve some of the unpleasant sensations and pain. Patients need to be monitored closely while taking these drugs.
Avatar m tn Hey folks I have two impacted lower wisdom teeth. The left one started bothering me a couple years back and after consulting with my dentist he gave me the number of 3 different oral surgeons. I went to see all three just for the heck of it. The first two were pretty non-nonchalant "you have a wisdon tooth lets get it out." The third fellow I went to was very thorough and really looked through everything and recommended that I "don't kick a sleeping dog.
Avatar n tn Just recently I was able to open my mouth completely since the surgery and noticed that in the hole where my lower right wisdom tooth was removed there is bone exposed. Also when I drink certain things, whether they be hot, cold or sweet, that I experience a sharp pain in my jaw when it comes in contact with that area. I was told that after my surgery that I might feel some discomfort for a while afterwards. My questions are: 1. Is it normal for the bone to be exposed after the surgery? 2.
Avatar m tn This question would probably be better asked in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery section with the oral surgeon. But the risk of nerve damage is hard to predict. It is, on average, probably 1% or so. But depending on how close the root is to the nerve, the risks could be higher. You may want to ask your dentist/periodontist to give you a guess but it'll always be hard to give any real accurate number. I would recommend getting it out.
1375649 tn?1279566419 The wisdom tooth thing had me worried cause when they say openings in mouth, was wondering if that meant healed/healing unbleeding tooth sockets.
Avatar f tn The oral surgeons office made my OB fax them a list of meds i could have after surgery before they would cut my tooth out. I only needed one pain pill after. There's barely any pain associated with having the top teeth pulled. I had the bottom done 5 yrs ago and it was rough so If its not an emergency I would try and wait on the bottom teeth until you have the baby.
Avatar n tn About two weeks ago I was referred to an oral surgeon for wisdom teeth extraction. All four teeth are impacted and need to be extracted, and it is quite painful. After they took the X-Rays, they told me what procedures I needed to have done. They told me I'd need to have the teeth extracted, and that I'd need a bone graft for each tooth that was removed, and that the bone graft was $350 a tooth.
Avatar m tn Impacted wisdom tooth is probably unrelated to headache. In stead, occlusal interference is the common source of temporomandibular disorder, which is significantly associated with headache and orofacial pain. However, extraction of wisdom tooth can provide many long term benifits.
Avatar f tn So I had a wisdom tooth pulled out and had the shots to num the pain and then I found out 2 days later that im pregnant can that numbing medicine have any effects on my baby?
Avatar n tn Since then my dentist has said that he can remove the adjacent wisdom tooth himself under local (other dentist referred me to hospital). the wisdom tooth itself has "rotted" and all thats left is the root, so he said it will be a tricky and quite long job. I am concerned about this, knowing the bone is still healing and regrowing in the molar extraction socket next to it, and I am very worried about damage to the new bone that is still growing.
Avatar f tn I do not have health insurance and this was my only option as wisdom tooth surgery is extremely expensive and this particular hospital offers a very affordable payment plan. However, I am also concerned with these issues and will keep you posted, but still feel at a loss =[ I suppose I will have to contact an oral surgeon and spend more money there just for a consultation. Thank you.
9671341 tn?1443128711 This infection may not have necessarily arisen as a result of the teeth extraction process. If you have any decayed tooth, this may have caused green mucus to form in the wisdom tooth socket. " http://www.dentistshateme.com/2014/01/25/how-to-get-rid-of-green-mucus-from-wisdom-teeth-extraction-hole/ I'd contact your dentist because you probably need antibiotics etc Cheers.......
Avatar n tn While it seemed as though the surgery went well, I discovered i had a chipped tooth that I am positive was chipped during the surgery. I could tell that the oral surgeon wasn't too thrilled that I was claiming that he chipped my tooth, but the chip was in the front of my mouth and besides being physically noticable, I could feel it on my toungue immediately. Anyway, 10 days after my surgery, I bit down on a soft piece of bread and heard and felt a horrible crack.
Avatar f tn I had a wisdom tooth grow in completely in one quadrant on my mouth. I had had a tooth out on that side and the wisdom tooth filled in the space. It's possible that your tooth may grow in, but in some cases they are impacted and have to be taken out by an oral surgeon. You really need to get to a dentist or oral surgeon ASAP.
