Avatar n tn My daughter has an repeatedly infected wisdom tooth. Its roots are curved into the root canal, and apparantly if it is removed then there is a 1:4 chance of the jaw becoming perminantly numb. What problems might this perminantly numb jaw cause? Is there any other way of solving the problem of infection?
Avatar n tn I don't think there would be any other problems except maybe a dry socket which is something that can not be anticipated.
Avatar f tn My husband is 21 and the dentist says he needs his wisdom teeth taken out. They are not impacted but they are growing in crooked and will not grow out all the way and are causing a bacteria build up. If we wait until they all pierce through the skin can he simply get them pulled and not have oral surgery.
Avatar f tn I am 43, have impacted wisdom at bottom left, been warned about the numbness thing between lip and law already by oral surgeon. Tooth caught between nerve etc under gum. Its causing pain, but the hospital want me to try other options first in case its not the tooth he said, he told me to return to dentist in case its a leaky filling that could be causing the pain. Then to get it re filled first. I had Xray taken of wisdom, but its 8wk for the 3D Xray, I am in UK on nhs side.

Avatar n tn However on the side with only the 1 tooth he is still having some problems with numbness. He cannot feel his the bottom right side of his lip down to his chin by his jaw line. it is about a 2" x 2" square of numbness.. then his gums are numb to in the same area. There is no swelling anymore .... all that has remained is the numbness Dr. says we just have to wait and see...it could take up to 9 months to get sensation back... if at all ever. so my ??? is this...
Avatar m tn Sometimes when removing wisdom teeth the nerve can be slightly "bruised", causing temporary numbness/tingling. Most cases resolve in a couple weeks. Depending on the location of the wisdom teeth prior to extraction, in some cases paitents are permanently numb. Prior to extraction the dentist should have evaluated the proximity to the nerve, and avoided the extraction if that was the case. Having a partially numb or tingley lip is better than a completely numb lip.
Avatar m tn I want to know why is it necessary to remove wisdom teeth? What are positives except that removing wisdom teeth will not affect other teeth lining and may prevent chances of infection around wisdom teeth? What are negative sides? I am tired of this procedure or that procedure and going to here and there, and now this. I don’t want to complain but I am already struggling with poor general health, stress, anxiety and insomnia and my GP is no help. and I see a psychiatrist, who suggests meds.
Avatar f tn Common cold, sinusitis, ear infection, sensory nerve compression, peripheral neuropathy as in diabetes, inflamed wisdom tooth, impacted wisdom tooth, dental caries, etc can all cause facial numbness and pain. Hemi facial numbness is also seen in Bell’s palsy, trigeminal neuralgia where a spasm may cause numbness, or due to acoustic neuroma which is a benign tumor of the eighth cranial nerve. Maybe the accidental injury aggravated any of the above reasons.
Avatar n tn Do these nerves for the edges of the tongue run through the same area of wisdom teeth? I havent been to a dentist in about 6 years...
Avatar n tn After this I was told I needed one filling but I should also get all four of my wisdom teeth out. (My regular dentist had never mentioned my wisdom teeth). I already had an appointment booked with my dentist for two fillings so went ahead with them. While there I said that I had gone for a second opinion and if I would be better to leave the cavities for maybe three months to see if they deteriorate. He told me if I even left it for 2 months I would have to get root canals on all teeth.
Avatar f tn I banged my head very hard about a week and a half prior to this - could it have something to do with this? Can wisdom teeth cause this problem as that is what i was told by one person but i have not been having any problems in the dental area so not sure if this would explain it.
Avatar n tn in addition to the above.... the molars in front of the wisdom teeht are used as "fulcrums" by the surgeon in remvinf wisdom teeth, they are pushed on in order to elevates the wisdom teeth out of their sockets....this is very traumatic and can take a while to heal.
Avatar n tn Can this have ANYTHING to do with my wisdom teeth? I am not having any pain/infection at any of these wisdom teeth sites. I have been to the dentist and she doesnt think it would be causing these issues, but I wanted a second opinion. I would go ahead and have them pulled, but I have also heard that pulling them this late in life, actually causes problems, as in teeth moving around to fill in space. Thank you.
Avatar n tn i have two impacted teeth on bottom and my wisdom tooth are rotten.....so sometime i have too much pain that i cant bear.....in 2009 i was in pain...but i dont go to the dentist...really there was fear in my mind...but then in march i go to the dentist and she take the x-ray and said that they will put me to sleep and will extract my four teeth...i was scared but not too much at that time...but after this when i oral surgeon told told me that because ur tooth is very close to the nerve...

Avatar n tn Went to a new dentist, who seemed shocked that I had three wisdom teeth still in my mouth. Said I should get these out to avoid future problems. Is it necessary to take these out NOW? They are not causing any discomfort.
Avatar m tn t say for sure whether or not it was necessary because its a judgement call from the doctor on how comfortable he feels reading the 2D picture and being able to remove the wisdom teeth. There is a risk of nerve damage from wisdom teeth extractions.
Avatar n tn My seventeen year old daughter was complaining of her jaw area on the left side of her face was hurting, thought maybe it was dental took her to the dentist they cleaned her teeth and said next visit they'd do a panoramic xray to see if it was her wisdom teeth, the following week her cheek and tongue became numb or didn't feel the same as her right side took her to peditrician they took did blood work for mumps which came back negative, she did have more fullness in left cheek, went back
Avatar f tn Do you have any problems with swelling that creates difficulty in breathing as well? It sounds like your wisdom teeth are giving you problems based upon your dentist's evaluation. I highly recommend getting an oral surgeon to take a look and remove them if necessary. It is VERY dangerous when there is problems with swallowing and/or breathing associated with dental infections.
Avatar f tn My dentist did fillings on two of my teeth for cavities but they won't do anything that requires putting me under gas. They also can't do xrays. My wisdom teeth r cutting in as well but luckily no problems with them. My dentist wants to talk about putting a crown on one of my teeth but won't do it until after baby is here.
Avatar f tn I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed in June of 2013. I still have numbness in my lower left side of mouth. The teeth, gums, lip and chin. My dentist months later said she sees nothing wrong. Is this wrong??
Avatar n tn Last two weeks I went to a dentist to have my wisdom teeth taken out. After the surgery, I had numb tongue and I thought I would go away very soon. However, I have been suffering from numb tongue for the past two weeks. Half of my tongue on the left hand side is numb and i can feel not much taste. 1. When will this problem go away? 2. What causes the symptom? 3. Anything I can do to make it back to normal as soon as possible?
Avatar f tn I just had my 4 impacted wisdom teeth pulled a week ago and ever since the surgery I have had numbness in my lower lip on the left side. Also, my front teeth on the bottom left feel like they are numb/loose. Is this common? I figured that a nerve was bruised but how long does it normally take on average for a nerve to heal? Will this be permanent? Thank you for any feedback or past experiences posted.
