depression

Avatar m tn Someone knows natural remedies for depression but without allopathic chemicals? Thanks!
Avatar m tn s Wort is for depression, not anxiety, and will only work if the anxiety is caused by depression. There are so many anxiety remedies, and they work better in combination. A good book to start with is Natural Highs by Hyla Cass, a psychiatrist at UCLA, though it's getting old. But if you don't know your natural medicine, it's very complicated, since different parts of the world have different remedies and systems.
Avatar f tn Every spring since my baby was born (3 yrs ago) I feel like I'm coming out of a fog when the weather warms up and the sun shines more. The "fog" creeps up so gradually, I don't realize it's there. I found out I was pregnant in April and felt MUCH better, almost giddy. I recently lost the baby. I'm coping well. Could this be a seasonal depression? If so, are there any natural remodies that might help?
Avatar n tn I would say as for natural remedies they are an unknown quantity so that's never a good thing. And nothing should be taken except under the supervision of a psychiatrist. As for what was mentioned (and from personal experience) tyrosine and taurine are dangerous. Don't try them. 5TTP I'd say the evidence is inconclusive.
Avatar n tn Please let me know, my son has been doing research on natural remedies because he just thinks chemo kills too many other cells.
Avatar f tn But if it works, some pharmaceutical companies have programs to make it affordable to those with limited income. Natural remedies are best used in combination. Because Cymbalta affects both norepineprine and serotonin, it's known as a stimulating anti-depressant, which is why it wouldn't usually be a first line treatment for a case where anxiety was the main problem.
Avatar n tn Right but these natural remedies should taken with the supervision of a psychiatrist. Even though they are natural remedies they are still anti-depressents. Natural doesn't mean "safe" or "harmless". It also doesn't mean "ineffective" either. Some are highly effective. But it does mean "unregulated". I take rhodiola for tardive dyskinesia and what they are identifying as tardive psychosis.
Avatar f tn Be aware that supplementing medication is not easy for the average layperson to do safely -- medications have a lot of contraindications against taking some of the best "natural" remedies for depression. I put natural in quotes. because some natural remedies aren't all that natural, they're still pharmaceutical products, but because they do use substances found in nature they can't be patented.
Avatar m tn For more complete info on how to use natural remedies, as greenlydia said, try the complementary medicine forum. But with natural remedies as with medication, the only way you every know if it'll work is to take it, since people respond differently to different things. You also have to be careful taking natural remedies if you're on medication, and this one isn't recommended for anyone under 18, which is pretty odd for herbal remedies.
Avatar m tn d see someone who does to guide you -- usually remedies are combined to work on different parts of the body for best results, but therapy and lifestyle changes are always included in the natural treatment of mental illness. A good book for an overview of natural remedies is Natural Highs by Hyla Cass, a psychiatrist at UCLA. Good luck.
Avatar m tn There are people on this site that are far more knowledgeable than me regarding natural remedies and how they work specifically for either anxiety or depression or a combination but I can give you some ideas: Natural sources/herbs: Valerian(Valeriana officinalis) Passion-flower St.
Avatar m tn i am taking zoloft, I have heard of many natural remedies to battle depression. kira St johns with 5htp, etc. Does anyone have a recommendation, specific brand and product?
Avatar f tn I am not really sure about barley either, but of course there are medications, behavorial techniques, and 'natural' supplements that are said to help. Just be careful when researching 'natural' remedies for depression. Quite often they are unregulated and can sometimes do more harm than good in my opinion, but some believe they produce results..anxiety affects us all in different ways, so a 'canned' approach to beating it is sometimes hard to do...keep us posted!
Avatar f tn My mom read in a natural remedies book she had that a boost in Vitamin C can help. I started chewing vitamin C tablets and sure enough my nose bleeds went away. You could also try a humidifier.
1136046 tn?1260577435 re not expert on these things. Natural remedies are best used in combination, not singly. A good book to read on this is Natural Highs by Hyla Cass, a psychiatrist at UCLA. Some things you might want to add are a stress B complex, magnesium, SAMe, 5-htp, and perhaps DLPA. But these are just suggestions, and a naturopath can work with you as you experiment.
Avatar f tn First of all some psychiatrists (including mine) will use some natural remedies (if proven in controlled studies) in addition to medication. But although there are some natural remedies that work on depression they have not found any that can replace standard medication. In Europe natural remedies are prescribed but in the U.S. they are unregulated so you don't know what you are getting. But if anything is being used against depression it must be regulated by a doctor.
Avatar f tn I would like some natural supplement suggestions that might help combat anxiety and depression. I appreciate any information or guidance!
Avatar f tn Thanks Paxiled. I might give it a shot and see how I go. I've also started taking Magnesium which is meant to be very good for both anxiety and depression. I just need to get out of this hole that I'm in at the moment.
Avatar f tn Yeah I have a history of depression, and OCD which is why I took the Celexa when I wasn't pregnant. I also have a history of very bad PPD. I was admitted into a mental hospital in 2008...my medication was not working, and had severe severe seperation anxiety from the baby. I couldn't even go to the bathroom for a simple tinkle without him in the same room with me, it was horrible! And I really don't want to suffer from it again.
672250 tn?1225937572 Here unfortunately, the regulation of medicine is not advanced enough and natural remedies are not regulated and thus its an unknown quantity. I would say it would be perfectly appropriate if a psychiatrist accepted you using it and some do use natural remedies. But be careful. The energy boosting effects can push some people into a manic state.
1443810 tn?1287151876 Does anyone know some natural remedies?I have a bad back so yoga is out of the question for the time being, and i"m freshly sober from alcohol for 4 days( I was self medicating)I want to start fresh and get all the chemicals out of my system one at a time. Please any advice will help!
Avatar m tn That's complex. Some of those work. Some don't. There's nothing wrong with natural remedies but as those are for treating depression you need to take those under a psychiatrist's supervision. Some psychopharmocologist's such as mine will use natural remedies in addition to medication. I'm not sure if any of those are strong enough to replace a standard anti-depressent or if they should all be taken at once.
Avatar f tn Have you had something similar, and if so can you recommend any remedies that might help me get better faster?
