Common Questions and Answers about Why take geodon with food

geodon

1610967 tn?1314811101 Included in my regimen are Geodon and Cymbalta. I noticed when I added the Geodon, I am not as hungry and food does not always taste as good. It has improved over the course of the year, but I have other more bothersome side effects from the Geodon. It has helped me in so many ways, I stay on it. Do you have any other side effects from the Geodon?
497950 tn?1255863927 It can be unpleasant if not taken properly. It is best taken with calories, so your best bet would of course be to take it with food. If I dont take it properly, I tend to get nauseated, dizzy, blurred vision and a feeling of unrealness. Other than that if taken properly with calories, it lessens the side effects. It works great for me, but everybody is different on medication, some might work for one person but not another, so its best if you give it a try and see how it works out.
Avatar f tn Saw pdoc Friday and started geodon 20mg x 2 a day, total 40mg. I had a splitting headache last night. Today have been off, stomach queezy, two times the headache came up and I took acetamiaphine. Now at bedtime I am ready to get sick to my stomach and feel awful. Does it react this fast or am I starting the flu? Anyone experience this, this fast?
Avatar n tn I understand it must be taken with food, what fiber/fat gram goal should be met before taking it?
20850242 tn?1536178425 Most recently my psychiatrist could only explain that it may just be a combination of the 4 meds I take daily. We both suspect the geodon however I am nowhere near the therapeutic level of milligrams. The other issue is waste elimination. I pass waste 2-4 times each morning and the consistency is of diarrhea, and has been for years. Exercise is always an option, however, I want to know just why is there unexplainable weight gain without changes to my normal consumption.
Avatar f tn The ONLY time I feel stable is about 45 minutes to an hour after I take the Lamictal at night. When I get up in the morning, I am confused, tired (exhausted), paranoid, racing thoughts, severe anxiety, naseous (I have lost over 50 pounds in six months (a lot because I can't eat during the day). The loss of appetite is about the same time that I took Geodon. I'm now off of Geodon. The symptoms haven't improved. I really haven't felt well for about a year.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me to try it tonight 3 tonight after dinner which is 40mg each. And one in the am with breakfast. I am scared to take it. I heard it can make you out of it.
Avatar n tn you need to speak to your psychiatrist or a doctor - none of us can answer you on ths subject and the reccomended dose is not 20mg twice a day its actually 20mb BID with food up to 80mg a day for schizophrenia and up to 120mg a day for bipolar as per guidelines of manufacturer but larger doses are used depending on psychosis.
202665 tn?1248806733 For a long time, I was very satisfied with it. I have had a lot pf psychotic symptoms along with the bipolar disorder, and the Geodon really helped keep those at bay. I had few side effects, except once in a while, I did feel kind of like a zombie. It didn't cause any weight gain, which was nice. When I did stop it, it was because I was starting to have problems with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), and I wanted to try the non-antipsychotic approach for a while. I hope this helps!
915369 tn?1355314810 You should take the meds with you and/or set an alarm on a phone or something to help remind you to take them.
Avatar m tn No twitches with the Geodon, I had tremor with other meds and they went aware. With the Geodon, I was tsken off of it abruptly too for another reason, and I honestly did not experience withdrawal, and the problem which I had developed was quickly resolved when the medication was stopped. Not same day, but over a week. I have to say i get nervous twitches when I am really, really upset and nervous, as well as tremors.
Avatar f tn I discussed it with my doctor, and he told me I wasnt taking it properly and that it ia best taken with food that is at least 500 calories and it will lessen the side effects. Ive been trying to take it with food and when I do It definitly makes a difference. I hope this helps!
Avatar m tn I don't have Bipolar 1 but Geodon helps my depression for sure along with of course my psychosis since it's an atypical antipsychotic. It's FDA approved to treat Bipolar mania and my therapist told me even though it's not FDA approved to treat depression it still has a mood stabilizing effect. It might not be working right for you as medications work differently for everyone.
Avatar n tn I have been on a combination of Wellbutrin (300 mg XL 1x/day), Cymbalta (30 mg 1x/day) and Geodon (20mg 1x/day). I also take 1500 mg Tyrosine 2x/day that has worked wonders. I have been experiencing a lot of anxiety lately that stays with me all day, and a little depression and irritability. I have been taking .5 mg Ativan as needed and I seem to need it almost every day.
Avatar m tn I woke up with this a few days ago on the left side and it started to go away but it came back as bad as before. It hurts so much just trying to chew food. I woke up yesterday with my left arm having a similar pain in it right above the elbow when I move it in certain ways.
Avatar m tn Also, are you taking it with food? The PI sheet says that the absorption is doubled in the presence of food. And the only info I can see on the PI sheet about titration says you can start at 40 mg 2x per day and increase it the next day to 60 mg 2x/day. So if your Psych NP wanted to, they could get you up there in the next 2-3 days, and atypicals work quickly, so if it's just that the dose is too low, you might be doing better in less than a week.
Avatar n tn I just seen the doctor today, put me on 120 mg of Geodon and would not let me take kolonopin. Does anyone know what affects Geodon will have on me while taking Zyprexa, depakote, benztropine, and risperdone.
Avatar m tn I am tapering off Geodon right now with my doctor's instructions. I am having SEVERE anxiety and just feel awful. I am convinced that it's withdrawals. How did your situation resolve?
735919 tn?1236444549 thank you for the info on Lamictal, but does anyone take Geodon? I take 40mg Geodon and Lamictal. I do feel so much better, but i was wondering more about the Geodon side effects. I feel alittle more anixous im wondering if it is the Geodon.
Avatar m tn That actually appears to be one side effect of Geodon but given that all (current) antipsychotics have anti-cholinergic side effects that could happen with any antipsychotic and given that people react differently to each one perhaps it was the medication you were transferred to rather than the Geodon helping it as Geodon is less likely to cause anti-cholinergic effects than some other antipsychotics.
602865 tn?1239906277 I am new to this site and I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about mixing the medicine Lithium and Geodon? I have been taking Lithium for almost 3 years now and it has helped me so much, but I feel the effects are not as helpful as they once were. My psych. added Geodon to the mix and I had a horrible experience! I was crying one minute and angry the next. I hadn't self-injured for a long time and I did last week. I called my Dr.
Avatar f tn I have been to many doctors over the years and they all say that these side effects had nothing to do with my medication. Well, I am no doctor, but it does not take a genius to figure out that when all of these side effects happen within weeks of starting this medication, that the medication is the cause. Over the years I have had a horrible time trying to lose weight. I am usually very skinny and I have tried EVERYTHING to lose weight and nothing has worked!
Avatar m tn i felt mild but manageable chills on 20 mg geodon, 4 mg perphenazine, then my psychiatrist let me take zero mg geodon and 4 mg perphenazine. upon one day of taking zero mg geodon and 4 mg perphenazine i felt terrible chills up my spine. so i started taking 20 mg's geodon again. that didnt help, still the chills. so on the same day i took another 20 mg geodon, still the same chills.
Avatar f tn m asking if anyone else has this issue with Geodon. She takes 40mg BID - about 2 hours after she takes it in the morning, she gets really angry and agressive and goes through a screaming manic phase and ends it with a 1-2 hour nap. This has just recently started happening at night too. Please help or give some advise...
494087 tn?1257793207 Then to top it all off he now thinks I am bipolar and prescribed me something called geodon 20 mg capsules. I am supposed to take one capsule every evening after food for 5 days, then 2 for 5 days and finally 3 so in the end I will be on 60mgs of this medication that makes me feel very strange. thats why I think he has mis diagnosed me by a long shot. What should I do, should I get a second opinion and try to find someone who will listen?
Avatar f tn I have been in a hypomanic state for about 3 weeks now. Even though I take Restoril 30 mg, Lunesta 3 mg, and Clonipin 2mg at bedtime, I'm still up all night or in and out of bed all night except for about 3 hrs of sleep. Then I'm exhausted in the morning and make the mistake of napping for 3-4 hrs which my shrink says I shouldnt do. This has been going on too long. I have only had about 3 nights of 6-7 hrs sleep since Halloween and I dont know what to do.
Avatar m tn hi...i've since taken my self off of geodon. as a refresher i was taking 120mg and dropped down to 60 mg for a week. i've read lots of exteme withdrawal symptoms but in the 3 days i've been off i'm not experiencing anything. i'm thinking it's going to take about 2 weeks for my brain to adjust without any geodon and another 2 weeks to hopefully see if my sleep returns. would that be a good time frame to expect a change?
Avatar f tn Does anyone take Geodon with Triliptel? I know I'm not spelling these medications correctly, sorry.
