Common Questions and Answers about Why is singulair given at night

singulair

Avatar m tn During the day I do not wheeze and cough, just laying down at night in bed. Should I go see my doctor, or is this something due to change in weather (it has become noticably cooler in this area the past couple days), or something the medication will correct in time? Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn Allergies: all I'm taking now is the Singulair which usually helps a lot. Antihistamines have never worked for me, or at least not enough to notice. I do not know what I am allergic to. My allergies are usually the worst in January and spring. The rest of the year they usually are not too bad. I used to take Astilin nasal spray to help me breath during them. I have never had a CT scan of my sinuses. For the mono I was given only tylenol and motrin for the throat pain.
Avatar f tn I have alot to say about Singulair but none of it is good, unfortunately. My son was on Singulair for 3 yrs. I finally recognized the side effects he was having and discontinued. He suffered from leg pain, stomach pain, irritability, anxiety, quick to tears, easily frustrated and excessively fearful. At the age of 7, his dosage was increased to 5mg. At that point, it became very clear he was suffering side effects. All of the side effects I mentioned above were multipled x 10.
Avatar m tn Only cough at night. Some night less, but last 2 nights was very bad and he lost his voice this morning. He is on Singulair for allergy, but it gives him rash so we go for Claritin every evening. He also has albuterol inhaler and Flonase. However, it does not work sometime like the last 2 nights. The flonase really made it worst so I stop. He has this about a year off and on, but worse when the weather change.I have air filter and huminifier at home as well.
Avatar m tn His doctor hasn't given him any type of inhaler. He also said to try to take him off of singular every once in a whale and see how he is doing with out it. and that is why he stated to cough again. when on singular he doesn't cough nearly as much. I just don't know how to help him breath easier when he is coughing so much, that is his wheeze.
Avatar n tn He occasionally has a cough in the morning but nothing at night, and nothing during the rest of the day. He is off the nebulizers for now and is staying on his singulair. Am I missing something w/the dark circles? Any thoughts on why they're not going away?
Avatar f tn My 2 year old son acquired severe RSV at 6 weeks old. Ever since then he now has virally induced asthma. So he's been hospitalized a few times with bronchiolitis when he was 1 years old. The typical treatment has been 2ce a day pulmicort and 3xs a day to every 4 hours of albuterol. If that didn't work they would add predisone and sometimes zithromax. And those combos knocked it out. Well he now has 3 weeks of a rattling cough that just doesn't go away.

Avatar n tn After about a month he started having a problem with his legs and groin itching. He took himself off the Singulair as that is what he decided was the problem. He has gotten by with just the Advair inhaler. In the past month he's really been struggling with breathing problems.
Avatar f tn I was on symbicort but that made me to anxious. Singulair made me too anxious too. My daughter takes singulair every night and still has asthma and allergies flare ups. Veramyst nasal spray works best for me and nasonex is ok. I don't know which antihistamine medicine works best, I've tried them all too and they all have a side effect,.

Avatar f tn Hello, I'm a 45 year old man, in pretty good shape. Workout every other day 5'11" 185lbs. History of seasonal allergies and sinsus problems. No history of Asthma. In November 2015, I had a really bad allergic reaction to a coworkers perfume and had a very difficult time recovering from it. In February 2016, my doctor prescribed Advair 250/50, once a day and Singulair 10mg at bedtime.
1703392 tn?1307450500 http://www.kcheart.com/t-healthEdPVCs.aspx The rogue cells that cause benign pvcs pay less attention to the heart's Pacemaker most of the time anyhow, and when the Pacemaker slows your heart rate for rest or sleep, the little buggers are even less under control. However, there's no harm to taking Xanax or a beta blocker as needed.
1398713 tn?1282046685 All symptoms disappeared almost immediately (completely within 2 days). I took Singulair again two weeks later (May 5) and exactly three days later, I was at the hospital for the same symptoms only worse. My temp was not 102 like last time, but up to 106. I also had an odd, scaly, ring shaped rash on my torso and a blistering rash on my lower legs. My leukocyte count was 26, but all other blood tests came back within normal parameters.
Avatar n tn No, Singulair (montelukast sodium) and zyrtec do not contain cortisone. If your son is prescribed 5 mg of Singulair then try to get that instead of a 10 mg preparation (you can get 4 mg and 5mg chewable tablets—ask the pharmacist or the doctor about these). Usually a medication which can be broken into half and used this way to half the dose has a line break on the tablet. Usually Singulair does not have such line breaks.
1135961 tn?1279145314 They may also try taking you off the singulair and putting you on Zyflo. It is not commonly used, but it is an excellent drug. As to the claritin...that is an antihistamine. Singulair is one also; so you would be double treating one symptom. You should not take OTC meds when you have asthma without a doctor saying it is OK. Also a humidifier is contraindicated for people with asthma as it puts too much moisture in the air.
Avatar n tn Also he takes 10ml of Atarax Syrup at night before going to bed, His itching is so severe and it really bothers him all night; he goes to bed around 4 or 5 in the morning sometimes at 6:00 AM and of course misses school. I just need a Really Good Doctor who can diagnose him correctly. Can I try Benadryl.
Avatar m tn i was not warned of the possible side effects like so many other parents and patients. there is also some thought that singulair is being linked to suicide in teenagers. you can google suicide and singulair and watch a family's story about their son's suicide. also look up your child's medications on www.medications.com. i hope this message reaches other parents with children on singulair.
Avatar m tn Blood pressure rises as a compensatory reaction when there is an asthmatic attack. As long as it does not progress to the point where there is an acute hypertensive crisis, short periods of elevated blood pressure during an asthmatic attack may mean the difference between living and dying. Despite this fact, many physicians routinely prescribe blood pressure meds to asthmatics.
Avatar f tn The past few months of sicknesses has been the worst. He was on prednisone 3 more times and still while on Singulair. Now he is on Flovent and Singulair hoping to keep his wheezing under control. But he remains with this wet cough. It's from the asthma. Has your son ever had wheezing? The Singulair is pretty safe although it can have sleeping side effects. We have to give to him at night right b-4 bed or it keeps him up. It has helped, but just not enough.
Avatar f tn What antihistamines have you used? It wasn't an antihistamine with a decongestant or Benadryl was it? Singulair can be used for Allergic Rhinitis like you have, however, this is usually prescribed for someone with Asthma issues secondary to Allergic Rhinitis. What nasal steroid are you using? Most of them can be used long term.
Avatar n tn I have been taking singulair for a couple of years now and have all of a sudden developed a head tremor.
1154802 tn?1266485720 I also use Symbicort and was using my inhaler quite a bit...every night and 1-3 times during the day. I started taking Singulair a month ago and I don't use my inhaler nearly as much anymore. I've used it 3 times at night in the past month (2 of the times I forgot to take Singulair) and a few random times during the day/evening. Just a thought if you don't already take it and you have allergy issues. Take care.
212161 tn?1599427282 It is possible to develop asthma at any time in your life but it is unusual to do so at your age, when you have never had any sign of it in the past. Not all wheezing is caused by asthma and it is more likely that you have had acute bronchitis. But, ordinary acute bronchitis usually resolves in less than 6 weeks and, sometimes when the infection causing acute bronchitis is severe, it can bring on asthma, with cough and wheezing that persists.
