Common Questions and Answers about Why is my tongue sore and cracked

sore

I had something diagnosed 9 years ago. It is called oral lichen planus. There is a white film which is on my tongue, gums and cheeks. My tongue will get swollen, painful and cracks in it at times. For years we thought it was thrush because I was treated with prednisone. Saw many doctors and then finally one ENT diagnosed and had a biopsy to confirm.

I've had an orange tongue and sore throat for a couple weeks and I thought I was the only one going through this. It is very embarassing and my kids kept asking me why my tongue was orange. I am so glad I found this site because a couple of people on this site have mentioned they had switched from Listerine mouth wash to Crest Pro-Health mouth wash, well so did I, and that is when the orange tongue and sore throat began. That seems to be at least one common thread people have.
When I finally changed doctors is when my hands hurt me so bad and there was no resolution. My tongue hurt me, was cracked, and raw. My doctor said allergies but dismissed it as nothing. My fingernails also have no moons and where the moons are supposed to be, they were blue. My doctor immediately said 'Reynauds phenomenon". Again, dismissed. My chiropractor is the one who thought it was related to B12. He even mentioned this to my doctor but it was dismissed.
The best toothpaste for a sensitive mouth and tongue is "Tom's of Maine - Fennel." No matter how sore my mouth is, I can use it with no problems. There are a few other natural ones in cherry flavour etc that work well. But the pepermint and wintergreen ones are terrible! Even Sensodyne burns like Heiil!
i got a new lighter so i tried it out, i didn't even finish the cigarette though. sjogren's syndrome - have almost all the symptoms but my nose is super runny and my eyes seem fine.
I've been doing the hot compresses on my eyes and using Cetaphil lotion on my dry patch and eyelids. The dry patch is gone now, but the sore eyelids remain. Did you ever get a diagnosis from a doctor??
I personally think it's a neurological problem and not the eyes. My daughter has great eyesight is slim and very fit (she's an orange belt in karate) Night time is definitley worse and first thing in the morning. I will keep my updates going in this forum, hopefully we all can get some answers.
Approx 2 years ago the front and right side of my tongue cracked. It isn't sore although I feel that my taste buds at the front of my tongue have been effected and at times the front of my tongue can feel quite fury. The only feel research and information I have found about these symptoms are difficult to understand as they are based around Chinses medicine. I would like to know why my tongue cracked 2 years ago and if there is anything I can do to get it back to normal?
It is like my bite has a mind of its own. It is always my left side which is my bad side from the MS. I told my Doctor and they did an eeg last year which found no seizure disorder my copay was $700. A few months ago I cracked a tooth from biting which cost $1500 dollars to fix, my in insurance would not pay for it. My dentist made me a bite guard my insurance won't pay for but it is worth it. At first I gagged and though I would never get used to it now I use it all the time.
The itching was getting worse in spite of the three different meds I was prescribed, my tongue was sore and bleeding and I was not getting any sleep. Yes, many have been thru much worse, but if I don't succeed, my liver is in good shape for a while. BTW, still itching, have cat-scratches all up and down my arms from scratching myself, tongue has blisters and little river-looking things hair still faliing out in handfuls. So I guess it takes awhile to get the meds out.
So, if you are taking Topamax or getting ready to increase you dose or considering starting it - please, please take my advice and remember that it can cause sudden worsening of your vision, and if an attack of narrow angle glaucoma starts, you can develop severe eye pain, extreme headache, nausea, vomiting and nearly complete loss of vision.
I go to Endo on monday so I want to be intelligent about this...thanks Lisa PS got my stiches out today and my scar line is absolutely flawless... it will heal up great inspite of blowing the first stich set. Doc says my site looks good inspite of added trauma...
Throughout the day I had a few low periods and do not yet feel the drug is out of my system, and I am yearning to be my old self. Through some research I have learned that using sleeping pills is not the answer and have decided to stop using them. It takes time for the brains receptors to begin making it's own chemicals again natuarally and the taking of any kind of drug ( not natural ones ) can upset this process.
Hijacked? This is my thread! Anyway, why is there no danger if i may ask?U read so much on the other sites how having a cold sore increases the changes so what if u both have one? Really no change?
Whats alarming is that only my lymphocytes changed and dropped by 35% which is 21% of total WCC, this is compared to 3 month ago. My symptoms got better for two week, but then at three weeks after exposure i was getting the same symptoms along with a skin rash. The rash is small red dots, some are raised and some are inside the skin. The rash itches when touched. I got a swollen lymph gland on right side of neck.
About 8 days after a low risk incident I developed ARS symptoms=loose stools for 2 days, Night sweats for about 2 weeks, Thrush (confirmed) on my tongue, burning throat and (I think) hairy leukoplakia on the tip of my tongue ( my tongue is thick and cracked and sore), And still 5 months later my symptoms persist and more have come about such as numbness in my thighs, sores on my body that are healing slowly, shortness of breath, heart palpatations and insomnia and all I can think about is that
not very often, but I have noticed a few little flutters here and there, and also having a strange feeling in my left eye (like it is swollen and something is in it) and find that my vision is a little blurry after reading a lot or doing a lot on the computer. Pulse and BP are OK (so far--checking at home.) Sorry post was so long...new at this and have lots of questions, but feel so much better knowing that other people are experiencing the same things. It's scary.
It does not usually hurt but my muscles and joints hurt and seem to be tense, weak and stiff. Can anxiety cause all of these CONSTANT symptoms? This problem is effecting my life and my relationships and I just want to feel normal and like my old self again. I just need to know if Anxiety can cause all of these symptoms, and constantly, 24/7 I have these symptoms.THIS IS TAKING OVER MY LIFE! PLEASE HELP ME!!!
hydrogen peroxide VERY painful, but in the spots I repeatedly applied it until the bubbling stopped--which is HARD b/c of the pain, I haven't had a recurrence. I'm now down to a few spots on my tongue and the roof of my mouth...I think b/c they reinfect each other and b/c I haven't been as diligent with the hydrogen peroxide as I was with the other areas. It is VERY VERY painful, but effective. Do your research...the idiot Dr.
That my hair loss, tinging hands, tongue, and all of my other problems had to do with one problem. My tongue is really, really cracked. When I asked my doctor about it, he said that that wasn't the usual cracking he's seen, associated with thyroid problems. There are deep cracks in it....and, depending on the day, I have white weird looking lines through it....kind of looking like the pictures I've seen of geographic tongue online.
Now that I am 22 the pain has been getting progressively worse and has moved to every part of my body. My neck is always in pain, my back is always stiff and in knots, I cannot run anymore (at least not w/o feeling immense pain), walking up stairs is a constant chore, my night vision is diminished considerably, and my breathing is as if I am horribly out of shape, when in fact I am not. I constantly feel weak and lightheaded.
But after the things in my life calmed down i noticed the depression and moodiness were still there and getting worse and worse. I talked to my doctor and she is taking me off the pill - i have been a pill continuous for ten years so she feels my body needs a break. She did tell me that she has had other patients who have experienced extreme depression on Yaz. I am really nervous about going off the pill since i have been on it so long but i am willing to try anything at this point.
I have had neuropathies going on in both hands and both feet for years. My tongue has been beef red and burning on and off for years. My memory has been getting worse. I've been getting clumsy. I've had sores (not coldsores) that come and go at the corners of my mouth since I was a kid. All sorts of parathesias in legs and arms, hands and feet. My elbows and arm muscles have been so sore for at least 7 or 8 years that they are hardly usable.
My chest has been sore for 3 days since. My husband was with me and didn't know whether to hit my back, call 911 or what. I don't know wha to do when it happens cause I immediately panic and I have asthma and it starts my asthma. I am petrified of having any tests or surgeries because I'm afraid I will have one of these spasms and die trying to get my breath. There has got to be something they can do for this.
These past few weeks i have also had this weird sensation in my legs which is hard to explain. It is in the calf muscles. Stabbing sensations, pain, tingling, and sometimes it even feels like my legs are heavy and shaky to walk on. I saw my Dr who told me: ANA and RA tests were negative, my cd57 (measuring immune health was 64), she said this is pretty low seems most healthy immune systems are 180+, and my ATP(energy to cells was 19).
The sensation feels as though it is internal and takes place from my vagina up into my cervix. There is no regular time period in between when this sensation occurs. Sometimes it takes place every 5 minutes, sometimes every 15 seconds or so. It usually lasts for just a few seconds. I am in my early 20's, so I am not approaching or going through menopause. I also should be having my period any day now.
I've heard too many stories about healthy or good people getting sick and dying. I'm 45, but my kids are only 6 and 8 and my biggest fear in life is that I won't see them grow up. My wife is getting tired of me fearing for my life. She used to call me the rock in our family, and now I'm afraid she doesn't feel that way anymore. I just feel that I haven't been a good enough person in this life to be spared from some aweful disease. I'm sorry to go on like this.
Also I got examined and was told that my tumor is soft and not hard like it was before my 1st round of chemo. The doc said that is a good thing because the chemo seems to be off to a good start. I cant thank you all enough for your attention. I just cant say it enough YOU ALL ROCK!!
This post was made in June and I was wondering if anyone had a positive update? My right side of my tongue is numb- I am having a burning sensation and I do have a tiny bit of feeling on it. I am scared too that the feeling won't come back. I wouldn't have gotten the wisdom teeth out if I knew this would be permanent.
