Common Questions and Answers about Why is my eye swollen when i wake up

Avatar_n_tn I wake up in the morning with the area around my left eye very swollen. And my eye is slightly "teary". I've been told by and eye doctor that I have allergy eyes, but I've tried allergy meds. and they do not seem to help. And why is it only my left eye? The swelling goes down a little during the day, but settles in a bag and my eye. It looks awful.
Avatar_f_tn No one has been able to figure this one out. It is at its worse i the Morning when I wake up. The eye lid is full of fluid, which looks like my tears . It drains slowly throughout the day and fills back up over night. I've taken antibiotics, Steroid drops, ointments . Nothing has worked. I thought it was allergies because the exact same thing happened to me last year and it lasted for 2 months and went away on its own. I don't want to go through another two months of this agony.
Avatar_f_tn The doctor prescribed glasses for computer and reading since I am nearing 40 and he says that it seems to be eye strain, but I am not convinced. My eye hurts the minute I wake up and does not get better when I am not reading or working on the computer. I have been getting headaches behind this eye, and have now started to feel pressure next to my nose (sinus?) Some days are worse than others, but seems to be getting worse overall. The other day I took an allergy pill and it seemed to help......
Avatar_n_tn white stuff in the corner of my left eye. super bad cold.. i wake up every other hour.. and every time i wake up theres more of that stuff there. and my eye is sensitive and red.
Avatar_n_tn Sometimes, it starts itching around my eyes. Then I wake up the next morning and my eyelids are puffy/swollen. Now, I've been visiting my boyfriend since the summer of 2008 and I have never had any problems until July of 2010. Now everytime I go there, I end up with hives and the swollen eyelids. I visit my boyfriend 1 weekend a month. I go there on a Friday and I come home on a Sunday. Once I get home, it usually takes several days for all this to calm down and go away.
Avatar_dr_m_tn This is why these symptoms are most obvious when you first wake up in the morning. It’s also been shown that these same stomach juices can then travel down into the lungs or up into the ears of the sinuses. Pepsin, a digestive enzyme, and H. pylori, a common stomach bacteria, have been found in lung and sinus washings.
Avatar_f_tn For the past year, the eyelids around my right eye are swollen in the morning when I wake up. The swelling tends to go down during the day. I've had an MRI of my head and that showed nothing. Several years ago I had inflammation behind my right ear, but that went away. An ophthalmologist found nothing.
Avatar_f_tn Personally, I think he knows deep down but is too scared to admit it. Every night I think he's not going to wake up and when he goes out in the morning because he won't stay in the house I think I'll get a phone call from the police or something. I am going to make an appointment to see the doctor next week to have some idea of what I should do. I'm definitely not taking him away now. He started getting quite belligerent and it's only because I didn't react that there wasn't a major scene.
Avatar_f_tn It starts at the left hand corner of my left eye, it travels under my eye and pushes up so closing my eye, the swelling also covers my left cheekbone making it feel tight. I wake up in the early hours and it is already swollen and takes at least 15 minutes to go down. I have no pain with it, It make me look like I am grimacing, my mouth is lopsided when the swelling is there. I only get the swelling if I am sitting down or lying down, it has never happened when I am standing up.
Avatar_m_tn For the last couple of months, I've had a weird thing happen in the mornings. When I wake up, like when I open my eyes for the first time in the day (or sometimes at night if I get up to go to the bathroom), I'll see a ring of light, or almost an orb of light, for a second or two, and then it goes away. It's almost like a flash or light, but it's in a circular shape. It seems almost like I'm seeing my eyes open from the wrong end, if that makes any sense.
Avatar_n_tn my left eye will hurt so much it'll wake me in the morning, the lid is a little swollen....it hurst to keep it closed and move it under the lid. when its opened the light forces is shut and i cant look up and focus on anything. it'll start to water and that'll make it hurt more. the pain and light sensitivity will gradually go away throughout the day, rarely i'll go to bed that night with any symptoms, never have them the next day.
689840_tn?1227284692 I dont have headaches or migraines, and apart from a slight swollen sensation, there is no other obvious symptoms, but when i run my finger around my top eyelid, there is a distinct "squishing" sound which can be heard not only by me, but by others listening on? I am going to the optometrist this week to see if they can offer any explanation? I am 48 and in relatively good health, and this has only come on over the past 3-4 months?
Avatar_n_tn Sometimes the morning when i wake up, my eyes are extremely swollen. So swollen that my eyelids completely disappear. I literally look like the alien from the ET movie. However, I dont have any other symptoms. No redness or tearing. Sometimes they are a little itchy. THis use to happen with just one eye but now its happening to both. I usually put ice on it to make the swelling stop and it works after a couple of hours.
Avatar_n_tn The pain got progressivaly worse. It felt like piece of glass rubbing in my eye when I blinked or moved my eye. My eye became very red and irratted. I went to my GP the same day ago was found to have a large scratch on the white of my eye. I have been taking Voltaren Ophthalmic for the pain and another eye drop to prevent infection. The pain and reddness of the eye has decreased significantly. However, today my vision is blurry in that eye.
Avatar_n_tn I have grown up with the drinking my whole life. I moved out when I was 15 with my hubby. Not for a second would I ever subject my boys to it. My husband and I are social drinkers....not very social...as we spend all of our time with the boys. We may get out a few times a year to a wedding or an adult bday party...but even then one will drive and the other will have a few. My dad is very respectful of how we choose to raise the boys. He wll not drink when they are around....
373751_tn?1215960658 I'm 20 years old and I pull out my eyelashes, I've been doing this for a couple of years now and I need help and I've finally realized I can't do it alone. Anyone with the same problem, please friend me. I'm tried of this horrible habit and starting today I'm done pulling them out.
Avatar_n_tn When I went, I was also having some discharge in both of my eyes, more in the right eye and the right eye was smaller when I would wake up in the morning. He said that it looked like allergies and since I'm pregnant there's really no drops I can use. The discharge has gone away, but now at night my right eye is sometimes harder to open. It seems very dry. My nose also seems very dry. I still wake up with it slightly smaller. It goes back to normal within a few minutes of being awake.
Avatar_n_tn usually goes away eventually but while I am experiencing the discomfort, I am ready to pull my eye out. I dig things into my eyelid, trying to make it go away. This is a slow means of torture to say the least. This last bout is leading to insanity so I am going to try to get into see an eye specialist again. The last time I saw him he pulled the eyelid back and wasn't able to find anything. The eye was good for almost 1/2 year from that time.
Avatar_n_tn I've tried perscriptive steriods, and every allergy medicine there is. When ever I swell up it seems like I have to let it run it's course before I can put ice on it. Therefore I miss more work. I can't have that anymore. If there are any questions, or if anyone knows how to control or stop this angiodema, please reply to my comment.
Avatar_m_tn My sore throat is on and off but now my JAW is clicking and i have a swollen gland in front of my ear/jaw. It's bothering me so bad. I can't stand being home anymore and my doctor just keeps telling me that I have to wait it out and not to worry about every little thing. Well easy for them to say when they dont have to sit with it. I'm missing school and I need answers. Does this jaw thing come with Strep/Mono?
Avatar_n_tn When I went home and went to the toilet I realised that my right 'lip' was swollen. This morning when I woke up it is still the same. Its a little sore and also irritating against my underwear. I dont no what this could be. Maybe due to friction? Can someone please help. Thanx!!
Avatar_n_tn My eye also feels loaded and sluggish. This is a constant thing from when i wake up till i go to sleep. My head is foggy and it has caused me to be unsocial. It sometimes hurts from my eye to my ear to the back of the neck. This is not head ache pain, but tightness that is irritating me. My nose feels stuffed on one side when my symptoms are the worst. When my symptoms are a little better(which they never fully go away) my nose is a little clearer. All this is on one side of my head.
1218873_tn?1300094816 Unfortunatley this is not something that comes and goes. When I wake up in the morning I get about 5 mins when the pain is very mild after that the pain set in for the day and by 5pm I just sit with my eyes shut when I can. I find looking down is more comfortable than looking straight ahead which I find impossible for anything more than a few minutes.
Avatar_f_tn The whole right side of my face including my eye ball tingles when I apply pressure to it and I have pressure behind my right eye, again!!! I have never had a headache and I believe that is very odd for someone who is suppose to have PTC! Anyhow this new symptom is totally on my right side of my face ( you could draw a line down my face and everything on the right side would tingle if you touched it!
Avatar_m_tn Hi everyone, I also have been expirencing this since I was about 12 years old, I talked to a neurologist about it; but he just ignored what I said as I was only about 14 at the time and what I said didn't make sense, even to me. The only person I've ever met who has expirenced it is my boyfriend; he calls it his "spidey sense" I call it "eye pokeyness". I tend to shove my face into a pillow or press my fingers firmly on my eyelids until it goes away.
Avatar_f_tn I never had floaters until I had an eye test. The dilation drops really hurt my eyes and I rinsed them copiously when I got home. My left eye recovered from being sore next day but my right eye was still sore and blurred. Then the floaters appeared in my right eye a week later. Three weeks later they were worse, blurring vision, this time accompanied by flashes of light.
Avatar_n_tn to these nodes to make them enlarged. This is why it is suspicious when there is enlargement in this area. My advise to you is to push for a biposy of a node in this area. You need to know what the nodes in this area are responding to. Doctors are reluctant to biopsy a node unless it is "BIG". You may have to really push to get this done. Let me ask you this, are you noticing any of the following symptoms?: fatigue, low grade fever (does not have to be constant), night sweats.
664710_tn?1226933196 Just kidding. It was actually morning and I had just woken up with my hair sticking up all over the place. I remember the date because it was also my sister's birthday. She understands why I didn't call her that day. Anyway, I went to get out bed that morning and my right leg felt as though it were asleep but without the pins and needles feeling that usually accompanies a sleeping limb. I thought it was weird but also thought it would go away.
Avatar_n_tn I really think that it could have already radiated from the eye trochlea to the muscles of my face because I feel pain in my cheeks when I smile and I feel pain in my jaws when I talk. The ophthalmologist has suspected of trigeminal syndrome, but my type of pain is different. Then the neurologist suspected of "atypical facial pain" that it is a diagnostic when the doctor do not find the cause of your disease.
