Common Questions and Answers about Why does my cat throw up after he eats

throwing-up

Avatar f tn I have a 13 year old tabby cat, whenever he eats anything he will throw it up within the next couple of mins. He does not like to eat out of his bowl and has to be hand fed for about a year now. He mostly eats different kids of dried cat food but we do give him chicken and tuna too. I am really worried about him as he has been with us for along time and is part of the family.
Avatar m tn He sometimes will throw up after eating his food if he doesnt chew it enough. Any way tonight I came home from work and he had throw at least 4 diff. times in diff spots. It is brown and liquid like and doesnt seem to have food mixed in with it. Also he usually hops in bed with me but has been sitting by the door to go outside which is unusual. I have also noticed a lump or pouch type thing in his lower abdomen which I made an apt. for at the vet to have checked.

203342 tn?1328737207 It comes in wet and in dry. It helped my kitty quite a bit after he had pancreatitis so bad he almost died and had to be in the ER for a weekend. Hope something works for you and your kitty!!
Avatar n tn s meowing at me to feed her again. Sometimes she eats to the point of vomiting it all up. Why does she have this insatiable appetite?
Avatar m tn Hello, My cat has been throwing up a brown very watery liquid for the past few days. He will go maybe a whole day and not throw up at all but then overnight we find that he's thrown up 4 or 5 times. He still drinks his water and eats his food and seems his normal self but i'm worried there might be something else wrong. Oh, this morning in his vomit was a lot of little white pecks maybe a little larger than grains of salt or sugar. Thnx any help would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn He has been taking Reglan four times a day for the last 7 months without much relief. After he eats he must sit down for at least an hour or any amount of physical activity will induce vomiting. I have to limit his food to make sure he does not get too full and vomit. It's not any type of certain foods that trigger it, he seems to throw up everything.
Avatar m tn Hi there, Our male ginger cat throws up too sometimes and it's also at night. The throw up is brown liquid. In fact, he threw up this morning in his little fur bed and I found a furball as part of the throw up ( sorry to be so graphic). We give him antihairball paste too sometimes. Our cat is also eating and drinking normally. I will have to begin brushing him even more often. He loves the antihairball paste which we purchased at Pet Value.
Avatar f tn I have a long-haired, soon-to-be 7-year-old cat. She throws up a lot. Sometimes it's a hairball but generally it's just vomit. I've learned to keep her a little bit hungry but not so much that she eats too fast when she eats again as both of these extremes cause her to get sick more. I know cats throw up but she seems to do it more than other cats I've had. She's laid back and doesn't seem psychologically damaged. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn My dog got really sick after eating a cat poo. Ecoli infection which led to chronic colitis. So it is not a harmless behaviour, take care.
Avatar n tn I have 3 cats, 2 females (3 and 4yrs) and one male (8yrs). I have a couple of questions about my male cat. I've had him for 8 years and for many years he has been throwing up after eating. He has been to the vet for check ups and is healthy, I think he eats too quickly or too much because when he has thrown up the cat biscuits are still whole, like he doesn't chew. He will then go straight back to the food bowl and eat more, which I will take off him at that point.
1615999 tn?1307461942 My son (will be 3 in June) is doing the same thing. He had a few random vomiting episodes in the month of February. His actions do not involve sticking his hands into his mouth though. Of course this alarmed me in the beginning and I assumed he was sick, but then he'd be fine. I'm realizing it happens mostly during mealtimes. Last week, everyone in my family had a stomach virus and we were all throwing up.
Avatar f tn m not exagerating, Nothing. No tuna, wet cat food. All he eats is dry cat food and plastic. And he will not drink water out of a bowl. We have to let it run in the bathroom sink. He only drinks running water. But my question is, Why does he eat plastic???? He has done it since he was a little bitty kitten.
203342 tn?1328737207 My younger vomits sometimes but he is naughty. He eats aquarium plants!! Well, he may be a vegetarian. Nothing wrong with wanting to be a vegetarian I'd say. As far as food goes, they both eat very fast but I guess they can tolerate eating super fast. Right now, I got my younger wanting to eat a piece of cable. But I do agree with the cat food industry and manufacturers in the sense that, as cats get older, their nutritional needs change.
1102283 tn?1257817472 My dog does this too. Nothing like a wet nose with cat litter stuck to it! We keep the cat food and water up on our washer/dryer so the dog can't eat it. Putting the litter up there won't work for us. I am thinking of getting some of that spray that keeps animals away from areas and putting it on the carpet outside our upstairs bathroom where I keep the litter - as long as it doesn't stop the cats from going in!
675347 tn?1365460645 The dog I had before always threw up after he ate grass. Like you said (margypops) he would eat it when it was getting close to mealtime, when his stomach was empty. Then he'd throw up just the grass and a little mucus. Yet because he was very healthy all of his life, I thought it was just his way of 'cleaning out his stomach', to get rid of that little bit of mucus. I never thought it might be because he felt nauseous because he was hungry. But it could have been.
Avatar n tn He eats twice a day, and most times when he throws up he has food down, he just isnt eating it. But he seems to enjoy the food when he eats it. Is there something else that could cause his throwing up bile other than an empty stomach?
231903 tn?1281482584 He will not eat anything! not even his FAVORITE foods that he ALWAYS eats... he will eat a few bites if he gets hungry enough, but its like he is always begging for food and asking for it, but when i give it to him he refuses it... he seems content most the time, and is still loving, but he just doesnt seem himself. He mopes around alot and seems like he wants attention, but he doesnt like to be pet too much. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I don't know why they do it, but my mother's cat did this when he would play with me or my sister-in-law. Just because they are fixed doesn't mean they don't have some of that desire I suppose.
231441 tn?1333892766 Hi, My 11 yo cat Greta Garbo (she is a grey street cat, normal weight, neutered) has recently been urinating in places other than her litter box. She does this very frequently now. Up until recently she has never done this before. Her diet is dried cat biscuits, she drinks and eats normally - though she does throw up if she eats a lot at once. We don't notice any change in her behaviour. Her weight hasn't noticeably changed.
596105 tn?1314580333 Aww thank you so much for telling me this, cuz i was worried....I went out for a couple of hours and when i came back he seemed absolutely fine....I just fed him, i'll see how that goes. Oh and another thing is that lately i've been changing his diet....could that be it too???
Avatar n tn My cat throws up occasionally too. When I brought this up with the vet about 2 years ago she said my cat was probably eating too fast. Said she could run a lot of tests and probably not have a definite answer as to why she was doing it. So I slowed her down and it seemed to help but she would still occasionally do it. Every 2 - 3 weeks or so. However now she is doing it but not throwing any food up , just liquid.
15268603 tn?1439500408 The vet never figured out why he did it. And that was when he was 7 or 8. (He lived healthily to over 14) I found that feeding him smaller quantities more frequently helped.
6990909 tn?1435275816 If there is food in her bowl, she will gorge herself until it is gone and then proceed to go into my room and throw her 1/2 digested food up on my ivory carpet. Our vet initially told me that she was used to having to fight for her food between hunting, or her brothers (they shared bowls). He stated that as she started to realize she would always have food, she would stop doing this. Well, she hasn't (almost 6 mos later). I am starting to find myself getting really frustrated with her.
203342 tn?1328737207 She acts healthy otherwise. She does tend to throw up when I take her to the vet so I do think she gets a nervous stomach. We've been letting the puppies out in the living room more now and sometimes they chase her, which we try to control. Can someone help me figure this out and how I can help her tummy feel better?
Avatar f tn I have a three year old Male cat and he's healthy..eats and drinks normal he just doesn't gain weight..he's not losing weight or gaining .Anyone know?
