1549643 tn?1495759353 All of my toenails have turned white. Some ridges. One has some brown spots. My fingernails, you can see the change occuring but not as noticable & I have ridges in all of my fingernails. My doctor could not give me any explanation except that it wasn't due to fungus.
Avatar f tn The doctor says my thyroid hormone levels fluctuates as do my symptoms. My fingernails are the worst and I am so very tired and weak. They are very soft and thin with ridges. I thought the synthyroid was supposed to help with these issues. Am I wrong and is something else going wrong This discussion is related to Fingernails indicative of thyroid problems?.
Avatar m tn I have developed ridges on my fingernails. Plan on asking my LLMD about it at my next visit. I was thinking maybe it was the meds.
Avatar n tn I have just been dealing with this same discussion in the last couple days, regarding toenail ridges and horizontal lines on toenails. I have found out about psoriatic nails, found in people with psoriasis, and ridges and peeling in your finger or toenails has to do with iron. High iron manifests in skin problems, and psoriasis is common in iron disorders. Google it with typing in peeling toenails or fingernails. Here is a link.
Avatar m tn If you want to get your blood sugar checked or hemoglobin A1C is a good test too then you can. I would do a general chemistry with a fasting blood sugar. I have vertical ridges on my thumbs as well and peeling fingernails and the peeling fingernails is due to being hypothyroid. So you might want to check your TSH level as well. Have you felt tired? The high blood pressure can change with going down on meat, and dairy products, no oil or fried foods and exercising more.
Avatar f tn Itchy raised ridges will appear over my body (arms and back mostly). They come and go randomly with seemingly no reason at all. My sister also suffers from these ridges and we don't know what they are. Any help?
Avatar f tn They are the same color as nails, not very deep but definitely noticable. These ridges are especially noticable on the bed of my thumbs and also on the toenails of the big toes. Other fingernails/toenails don't seem to have ridges, maybe just a few small ridges on index finger nails.
Avatar m tn I have no rash/spots on my body though.
Panda What causes ridges in fingernails? Does the presence of ridges indicate a lack of something in the diet?
Avatar f tn This sounds like a possible nutritional deficiency. Do you have ridges that run across your fingernails? In any case, mention this to your dr at your next visit because our hair and nails are a direct reflection of our nutrition status.
Avatar n tn This sounds like a fungal infection. You have mentioned the occurrence of ridges on the nails. Ridges on the nails may suggest underlying disorders like a fungal infection, anemia and dehydration. In fungal infections however, the nails may become whitish ,yellowish and soft. They will eventually separate from the nail bed. Continue to observe the condition. Have you sought consult with the pediatrician? I suggest that you seek consult with his pediatrician for evaluation also.
Avatar f tn I appear to have developed ridges on my fingernails, they run vertically. Is there a medical reason for these ridges or fine vertical lines on my nails?
2178116 tn?1337609281 I, too, have ridges on my fingernails and one nail that splits lengthwise. When I was really hypo, I also had very low HR (bradycardia); per 2 sessions with a holter monitor, my HR would sometimes go into the mid to upper 30's when I slept. Because thyroid controls your HR, this is a classic hypo symptom, as is the weight gain. Per goolarra's request, could you please post the reference ranges for the FT3 and FT4. Ranges vary lab to lab so must come from your own report.
Avatar f tn 3- Two days ago I noticed ridges on 2 fingernails while the rest of nails have vertical lines without ridges. Treatment: 1-I went to ENT after my 6 weeks symptoms and he gave me gargle which did not work. 2-After 52 days of last exposure I went to another ENT specialistand I told him about my sexual exposure so he requested Sypillis and anti Hiv tests besides throat swap culture. 3- Throat swap culture shows normal streptococcus bacteria and ENT told me the result is fine.
Avatar f tn Not sure where this question fits in - I have an 8 year old whose fingernails and toenails don't grow. I think I've had to cut them maybe three times his whole life. Everything else grows normally - his hair, his body (he's tall for his age)...Not sure if this is something to worry about. Thanks for any input.
Avatar n tn I have an 8 yr old daughter who has two fingernails, one on each hand, that are not smooth, they are slightly bumby and the nail that grows out at the end is not uniform, curvy. They do not have complete horizontal ridges across them. Sort of like moguls on a ski slope. They are not discolored and it only occurs in those two fingernails. She has had this for close to a year. She's rarely sick and if it was nail fungus I would think it would have spread to her other nails.
Avatar f tn I am a 23 year old female, 5'3", 100 lbs. I do not drink alcohol and never have. I have had horizontal ridges on my fingernails for probably 10 years now. I have also had soft stools consistently for years now, which I have read could be a sign of too much fat in your stool. I notice that some type of liquid/oil comes off of the stool too, and floats in the water. The stool also sticks to the side of the toilet after I flush it away.

560684 tn?1306712545 pitting of fingernails is common with eczema, they can have ridges in them too. the pubic itching could be eczema, but i would get it checked out as it could be many other things too, not related to sexual activity etc.
Avatar n tn Hi all, Thanks in advance for any advice you can give. I am a professional guitar player with growing concerns over the health of my fingernails. Over the past 5 years, I have practiced guitar daily on average of 3-4 hrs a day, with 1 hr a day minimum on "off" days. Since the start, I've noticed that the nail bed (and subsequently the overall length of the nail) of my ring finger on the left (guitar fretting) hand has gradually shortened.
745313 tn?1323142298 My fingernails have always been as hard as,... well,.... nails. They got brittle during TX especially my thumbs. All my fingers nails are not as hard as before but have strengthened. My thumbnails are another story. The center (from side to side) is soft as can be and brittle, they split but the sides are hard so I end up with rounded wear gouges that I can't keep up with. They look like cr@p not that it really matters.
Avatar n tn 10, I had 2 months of preauricular swollen nodes that developed in the setting of severe bumps while I attempted to grow a beard. Lymphadenopathy has resolved. I also developed horizontal ridges in all 10 fingernails at the same time and that lasted 2 1/2 months, until the nails grew out. In the past 2 1/2 months, I have also developed brown arcs at the tip of my fingernails and toenails.
Avatar n tn I made a few dietary changes, began eating more organically grown stuff, using sea salt in my food (high in minerals), supplemented with B-100 and extra folic acid, and also added kelp capsules to my supplements...also added digestive enzymes when I have a meal...Interestingly, all my female hormones are back to normal too..My doc also pointed out that my fingernails were a give-away that I had mineral issues...
691935 tn?1421027090 i=833389 If you google curved fingernails you will get alot of info.I have several nails that curve downwards at the ends.
Avatar f tn I have been feeling very weak, fatigued, no appetite, deep vertical ridges in fingernails, freezing cold hands and feet; I have hot, stabbing, deep aching pain in my right foot that seems to alternate all over, like a new pain in a different area of my right foot daily, and memory loss. I struggle to find words. My lab tests results: I have high RBC 4.99 (and have had in the past, only sometimes it’s normal), high Hemotocrit 44, low RDW 11.9, low MCHC 32.
