Common Questions and Answers about Why do glucose test strips expire

glucose

866901 tn?1505506236 I have to do the blood sugar curve every few months on the poor guy (I volunteer to do them to save money at the Vet)--and the test strips are a little over $1 a piece and only come in quantity 50 or 100..and those would expire long before we used all because I only use 4 strips each time I test-- so it's such a waste! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn Before testing ask yourself what am I going to do with the test results. If your testing just to see what your glucose is, why test. ReliOn's Test & learn, Accu Check Testing in pairs, both take a before and after test of, meal, activity, ect to see how it effects glucose. Accu Check 360 view is testing before & after meals, fasting & bedtime for 3 days. This gives you a overall view and spots to focus on. Both have pdf files that can be downloaded on their web sites.
514349 tn?1272801633 I did learn recently that ya, we do not need to fast anymore for blood work. New world with that bit of intel when it comes to getting lab work for me! Non fasting blood glucose levels are considered normal if under 125. And your fasting is just ever so slightly elevated. Your A1c is also just barely over. Personally, you don't need a diagnosis at this point. You've got the info you need to work on it.
788859 tn?1236734548 I use the Answer OPK test strips in the 20 pack. They have always been very reliable. Got preggers with my daughter while using them.
Avatar n tn Thanks to both of you. As far as I know, the meter is OK and the test strips are well within expiration. The doctor is very, very hesitant to write a prescription for test strips, so I buy them. It's absurb because with my insurance I could test four times a day free. As it is now, I really hoard the test strips. Yes, I try to watch the carbs and sugars, though I fell off the wagon during the Christmas days and that's probably why I'm showing the higher numbers.
Avatar f tn Second, does your home meter require calibration to test strips? Do the test strips have an expiration date? Can you see a doctor and get tested properly? Ask for an A1c which will average your past 2-3 months glucose levels. The results are presented in percentile [%] which when converted to eAG [estimated Average Glucose] tells you what your daily glucose was. This will tell you your status - normal, prediabetes, or diabetic.
Avatar m tn I did something really dumb today and now I'm scared. I was unclogging a toilet when some of the water splashed my hands. I have open wounds on my hands. When I looked down into the toilet I saw some used blood glucose test strips. I didn't see any blood. I immediately washed my hands with plenty of soap. About 1-3 minutes later I washed my hands again 3 times. About 10 minutes after that I washed my hands twice more and disinfected them with alcohol.
866901 tn?1505506236 In googling "blood glucose test strips", I found several websites which offered test strips and glucometers at varying prices (ie.http://www.diabetesnet.com/test_strips.php). Since your cat is going to need lifelong care, it will pay for you to shop around.
Avatar f tn the drink they had at my office has gluten in it.. So I have to pick up a glucometer, needles, and test strips to test my sugar four times a day for a week. The drink won't be so bad. If you're that worried about the taste, there is the alternative.
290018 tn?1240365868 SO since I was wanting to test early so badly i figured I would order some early test strips for www.earlypregnancytest.com ...I was going to get like 6 of them which was going to about $5.00(you have to order atleast 5.00)....but then shipping was going to be another 5 which would have been 10 and they wouldnt get here for about 5-7 days or I could order 18 test and get free shipping at a total of $15.00 and have them arrive in 2-3 days....lol So guess which one I did....lol 18test.
Avatar m tn I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE RIGHT FORUM FOR THIS BUT I AM PARANOID ABOUT HAVING DIABETES. I HAVE HAD 2 FASTING GLUCOSE TESTS DURING THE LAST 2 MONTHS. THE RESULTS WERE 92 ON THE FIRST AND 88 ON THE SECOND TEST. MY FAMILY DOCTOR SAYS NOT TO WORRY, THAT I AM NOT DIABETIC. BUT!!! I HAVE CONVINCED MYSELF THAT I HAVE ALL THESE SYMPTOMS; INTERMITTENT FREQUENT URINATION, DRY MOUTH AND THIRSTINESS, PAIN (PINS AND NEEDLES) IN MY LEGS AND FEET. ALL THESE COME AND GO.
Avatar f tn He said I could have breakfast like two eggs and so i did maybe that made my test high.....Now I have to make an appt. for the 3hour glucose test.....I hope I don't have gestational diabetes that scares me....I have never had that with my other pregnancies....I'm scared! What happenes when you do have diabetes? Does it go away after birth? What should I do before taking this other test? Can someone advise? Thanks!
Avatar n tn is this necessary? do i need the glucose test if my blood sugar test came back just fine??? thanks for the help !
Avatar m tn if you are leery of docs, first ask your diabetic friend to check your blood glucose,or test your urine w/ glucose testing strips. also journal all symptoms times and what you eat and when if you go to the md,good luck,it's not the end of the world.
503651 tn?1223174601 takes 6-8 weeks for USPS to deliver unit. Mine came with 10 each test strips and lancets and a test fluid bottle. Calibrate to strip number prior to using.
Avatar n tn that little drop of blood is going to be used by your meter to give a reading that reflects the glucose/sugar in your body, so those test strips and meters are VERY sensitive to ANY presence of glucose... so, if you have ANY residual sugar on your skin, the reading might be inaccurately high... if you have ANY residual water or oil or lotion on your skin, the reading might be inaccurately low... Regardless, more importantly... how have your morning readings been?
Avatar f tn i currently use one touch monitor and strips. The strips come in packs of 25. Script is for 50 a month. Barely enough to test for one month- 2x a day. I am paying 18.00 for 50 even with good insurance. Any way to bring this down? Any other meters and strips that are less expensive?
Avatar n tn No Rx required for test strips. Try wherever you purchased the glucose test meter, or online at Amazon or web sites like americandiabeteswholesale.
Avatar n tn It would help to know the make/model of your glucose meter. This way we could search the availability and low cost pricing of these unknown test strips. You can start by writing to the mfg to see if they offer free or reduced cost supplies. You also can search for and inquire at free clinics in your area. Use Google search for free clinics XXX, ZZ, where XXX is your city and ZZ the state. Another source which provides links to "free" diabetic supplies is http://tinyurl.
Avatar n tn This requires a smaller amount of blood, is lighter, has a canister of strips (not a drum), and is faster. The strips are pretty different from the Ultra and will take some getting used to.
Avatar f tn Meters are not exact within a range of as much as twenty points, so if it is less than that it might just be the meter. Make sure your test strips are not expired and if you have to change the number you do (some meters do, some don't) Also if you get control solution you can check the function as well. If you are seeing more wildly varying readings and it is not the meter perhaps this is something to speak with your doctor about.
709686 tn?1277432159 ve eaten, which is similar to the glucose tolerance test given in a lab to check for diabetes. If you do this sort of test, you may want to fast 8-12 hours before your "carb load." The ADA guidelines say fasting glucose over 130 and 2 hour post meal levels over 180 suggest diabetes. Lots of things can influence your blood sugar including exercise, stress/lack of sleep, and overeating. There are a few guides online that can walk you through the process of self testing for diabetes.
Avatar f tn I've been trying to control pre-diabetes for about a year. My Ac1 was originally 5.7 and the last time it was checked it was 6.2. When I do a 2hr after eating test I'm ok. What I have trouble with is the morning/fasting test. I average 115, but have been as high as 138. I'm 5'3" and weigh 160 and I'm 60 years old. I snack late and may eat nuts, yougurt, or sugar free coffee. How can I lower the fasting/morning test. I don't test til around 11:30am- 1:00pm.
