Why are my eyes swollen when i wake up

Common Questions and Answers about Why are my eyes swollen when i wake up

swollen

Sometimes the morning when i wake up, my eyes are extremely swollen. So swollen that my eyelids completely disappear. I literally look like the alien from the ET movie. However, I dont have any other symptoms. No redness or tearing. Sometimes they are a little itchy. THis use to happen with just one eye but now its happening to both. I usually put ice on it to make the swelling stop and it works after a couple of hours.
Sometimes, it starts itching around my eyes. Then I wake up the next morning and my eyelids are puffy/swollen. Now, I've been visiting my boyfriend since the summer of 2008 and I have never had any problems until July of 2010. Now everytime I go there, I end up with hives and the swollen eyelids. I visit my boyfriend 1 weekend a month. I go there on a Friday and I come home on a Sunday. Once I get home, it usually takes several days for all this to calm down and go away.
There are many causes, most likely blepharitis. Please see an ophthalmologist. Dr. O.
the rolling back does not occur instantly. This has happened gradually over the period of one year.
It might be adding to your swollen ankles. You are right about humid in Melbourne! I had totally forgotten how my hands swell up! I can't get my ring on my finger today! But it is far easier for me to put my hands in cool water than for you to stop and stand in a bucket! LOL I do feel for you. I had the swollen feet/ankles in pregnancy with number 2, over due by 14 days and in the height of summer! Be happy!
I have found that if I take about four 1,000 mg of vitamin C and four or five Odourless Garlic capsules before I go to bed I do not wake up with swollen itchy lips and swollen eyes. I also find that I can't drink too much Pepermint tea. My sister made some salve out of the Calendula plant and bee's wax and it is wonderful, healing and soothing.
When I get the PRES (great way to name it btw) i usually rub my eyes with my fingers and that can get really irritating when I am Driving or when i am trying to sleep. Knowing that the bed desk is near me i have to cover it with my pillows and sleep with my fingers resting on my eyes. I am getting the PRES as i type this message its driving me crazy.
For the past year, the eyelids around my right eye are swollen in the morning when I wake up. The swelling tends to go down during the day. I've had an MRI of my head and that showed nothing. Several years ago I had inflammation behind my right ear, but that went away. An ophthalmologist found nothing.
For the last couple of months, I've had a weird thing happen in the mornings. When I wake up, like when I open my eyes for the first time in the day (or sometimes at night if I get up to go to the bathroom), I'll see a ring of light, or almost an orb of light, for a second or two, and then it goes away. It's almost like a flash or light, but it's in a circular shape. It seems almost like I'm seeing my eyes open from the wrong end, if that makes any sense.
my boyfriend calls me lazy because i sleep 12-14 hrs a day and he doesn't believe me when i say i am trying to wake up but i cant. i try to exercise but keep my eyes closed during it that is how tired i am every day. my JP thought i may have a sleep apnea slept in the lab like a lab rat for them to figure it out i don't have it. i am not an overweight person only 148 lb, but use to be 128 gained 20 lb during the past 2 years since my sleeping problem.
some nights its not so bad where i dont do it or do it as much and then other times, its for hours, and there been times were my fiance woke me up and said i was sitting up picking my eyes, he thought i was awake, i was sleeping! and when i woke up my whole face was puffy, and my eyes were so swollen and crusted shut, and it hurts so bad, that only happened twice, but it scares me, and why cant i stop?
00 (not at midnight). I got a lot of sleep so why are mt eyelids puffy? I thought it was the eyeshadow I used. It takes a long time for it to come off... I even think some of it got on my pillow case. I don't like drinking water btw. Is it normal for eyelids to be puffy?
No one has been able to figure this one out. It is at its worse i the Morning when I wake up. The eye lid is full of fluid, which looks like my tears . It drains slowly throughout the day and fills back up over night. I've taken antibiotics, Steroid drops, ointments . Nothing has worked. I thought it was allergies because the exact same thing happened to me last year and it lasted for 2 months and went away on its own. I don't want to go through another two months of this agony.
The doctor prescribed glasses for computer and reading since I am nearing 40 and he says that it seems to be eye strain, but I am not convinced. My eye hurts the minute I wake up and does not get better when I am not reading or working on the computer. I have been getting headaches behind this eye, and have now started to feel pressure next to my nose (sinus?) Some days are worse than others, but seems to be getting worse overall. The other day I took an allergy pill and it seemed to help......
This is why these symptoms are most obvious when you first wake up in the morning. It’s also been shown that these same stomach juices can then travel down into the lungs or up into the ears of the sinuses. Pepsin, a digestive enzyme, and H. pylori, a common stomach bacteria, have been found in lung and sinus washings.
I am a diabetic and I have the same thing after I eat much of the time. I tend to spike up and rapidly drop on my sugar levels. It is worse after carb meanls for sure but sometimes it is any meal. I have had specialists tell me that isn't happening but I know it does cause I have tested my sugar every minute after eating for the first 10 min then every 5-10 after that for about an hour then just to see what was happening with it.
Feel free to add to this list...these were just a few things from today that made me giggle: - You shake a bottle of salad dressing and think your boobs might explode because of the pain - You try to hide your gagging in public, and from the pressure of gagging, you pee your pants - Your entire face and everything surrounding it break out so bad that even your damn earlobes have pimples! And I'm not AT ALL complaining! =) I'm actually THRILLED!
However, It has remained swollen and is often bigger in the morning when I wake up. I also have been getting headaches often, and only on one side of my head, the same side and the swollen lymph node. I went to the doctor and she suggested I get and ultrasound of it. What is she looking for in the ultrasound? Are my headaches related to the lymph node? Are there any other symptoms I should be looking for? What do you think the cause could be?
Also when I try to put eye drops in after it gets like this it BURNS and My eyes aren't stuck or anything when I wake up like from normal pink eye discharge, it just gets like this when I rub it
I have never had this issue in my life, ever. Suddenly I wake up with fluid filled bags under my eyes, that don't go away all day....is it thyroid related? My last labs interestingly showed my T3 and T4 levels and just less than 50% of the range, up until this point my levels had steadily increased with a steady increase in medication. This was the first time although she had increased my medication 8 weeks prior, that my levels actually dropped.
He can't handle me talking about it and gets cross with me and says I should have told my parents when I was little. I point out that it was between the ages of 3 and 7 and I thought it was normal. He has no patience with listening to any of this so I never bring it up even when I feel like talking about it (which isn't often - about twice a year). I feel at the moment that because he lost his driving licence - and you know how men are with driving - I've had to drive him everywhere.
I sit at a computer all day and I'm thinking that contributes to the issue. Usually in pain when I wake up too...like I am putting pressure on it while I'm sleeping. Some days I can't even pick up a cup of coffee with my left hand. Anyway, hope you have found your solution!
But it all happened in the eye area first for me, now that I got it under control on my body ( but not 100%) It is starting aroun d my eyes again. My lids are red and swollen and under my eyes the same. They are getting itchy again. My internist gave me a powder to drink for my itchness, he says that it goes through the system better, it is called cholystreome Or something like that. I am at work and don't have it right in front of me. Also my ears around them are itchy too, .
Well that is finally gone after months, now I am getting the swelling in my eyes in the mornings and my bottom lip has swollen up, this morning I got a raised bump on the side of my chin then my lip on that side swells up. I also have itching on the bottom of my feet and my hands itch sometimes. I take two benadryl for everything and its seeming to help me so far. But Im 52 and have never had these problems before. Never was allergic to anything in my life.
I'm 20 years old and I pull out my eyelashes, I've been doing this for a couple of years now and I need help and I've finally realized I can't do it alone. Anyone with the same problem, please friend me. I'm tried of this horrible habit and starting today I'm done pulling them out.
I have had a swollen submandibular gland, as i was told by my doctor, and i can feel 3 swollen lymph nodes in my neck, one of which i can see. I saw my doctor about this about 3 times now and hes told me not to worry and i dont want to keep bothering him about it. I had my 2 bottom wisdom teeth removed and was told by the dentist that there was a flap of skin covering the left one that had become infected (this was before i saw my doctor for the prescription drugs).

I am now fighting my case all over again, and will get the answers I need to balance my poor old body. My levels are totally skew wiff. This time I am more educated than I was 15 years ago. THIS time I know what I am talking about and can throw that back at the doctor's who then have no reason to doubt my own diagnosis. Phew!!!! That was long wasn't it! I could have written more, but need to give others their turn! Cheers!
I am and have been for years very tired! My lymph nodexs under my arm and in my groin ache daily when I get tired. I wake up and they are OK but by lunch they ache and I cannot literally keep my eyes open so I nap at lunch and someone wakes me to go teach. After school, they are aching again and I nap until I force myself to get up to make supper. After supper, the ache is worse so I nap again. I do some work in the evening and end up with the acheing unbearable and go to bed.
