Common Questions and Answers about Why are my eyes swollen every morning

swollen

I woke up this morning and my eyes were swollen, i could still see and they were not itchy or red. They weren't even half way closed but i would like to know if there is a reason for it?
My 8-mo old son's eyes were exposed to hydrocortisone cream (0.5%) and his eyes are swollen, upper eye lids are red and he cannot open his eyes. We took him to ER last night and they said it could be conjunctivitis and prescribed an eye ointment which we put on this morning approx 5 hrs ago. He also got some benedryl last nite at ER. He still is not opening his eyes and the swelling seems to be a little less than last night. What do you recommend we do?
Hi, my neuro thought one of my eyelids seemed swollen and since it is the eye with the most vision issues, I was wondering if it was something to do with MS. He didn't seem overly concerned and it isn't bothering me so I'm just keeping it on my radar for now. I have had so many blood tests lately that if anything was up something would have shown up. It wouldn't hurt to get some tests done though if you haven't already had some, especially for thyroid function. Good luck and take care.
My eyes are swollen and lips are cracked. This is due to an allergic reaction to gel nails in close proximity to myself (not in me). Hope this helps you, perhaps you're allergic to your co-worker's fake nails. Also, there is a long drying period, and emits voc.
Dont feel bad, I have the same issue with my eyes, when I walk by a pointy object it makes my eyes feel like the object is actually poking my eyes, its a really uncomfortable, better yet irritating feeling, and sometimes I cant sleep because of it, but ive found that when I dont have enough sleep this happens mostly but should I consult a physician or is it sleep related?
I went to the eye doc. and he said my eyes are fine. I have no problems with my eyes now.
Why are my ankles and feet so swollen? What you're experiencing is edema – that's when excess fluid collects in your tissue. It's normal to have a certain amount of swelling during pregnancy because you're retaining more water. Changes in your blood chemistry also cause some fluid to shift into your tissue.
Now tonight it's like it switched eyes. Now my left eyelid is twitching and kind of sticking like it wants to stay partially closed (same thing the other one was doing). This is so annoying. Does anyone else get this? Is it due to the lupus? I never used to get it. Dangit there is goes again. I'm going to bed. Please tell me this is not some new stupid symptom that's going to be neurological or something.....
Hi, I have the same problem. Sometimes I pick my eyes so much that it even makes it hard to see. My allergies also make my eyes so itchy that I pick my eyes even more. My eye doctor said that too much rubbing can contribute to astigmatism. My family is constantly asking me to stop rubbing or itching my eyes but it's a bad habit that i've had for at least 14 years. I also wish I could find a way to stop.
It seemed to hold in the moisture and it kept the eczema from returning. I now do this every morning and evening. Also if my eyes begin to water (sometimes my contact lenses causes this) I apply the water/vaseline intensive care treatment as well so that the skin does not dry up. After trying tons of things, this was my savior. Good luck!
seeing farther away, like halfway down the aisle of the store, where a close friend could be standing and I wouldn't recognize them. Scenes are too blurry. Still, docs have looked at my eyes over & over, & don't claim to have found anything. I don't understand, except that the last eye doc I saw said that he was taught in school that the typical case of optic neuritis means that the patient can't see anything and neither can the doctor.
My symptoms started with what looked and felt like a yeast infection under only the hood of the clitoris, once that cleared up I was still experiencing extreme sensitivity on the clitoris and/or the inner labia. My inner labia are swollen to some degree every day; sometimes sensitivity comes with this, sometimes not. When I say sensitivity I mean that every little hair, underwear or anything that touches my inner labia or clitoris is an irritant!!
I feel each and every day almost all times. In the morning my eyes are puffy and fell like i had no sleep. Some time i feel pain in my chest (upper left side) which i wonder related to my left neck pain. Sometime i feel too tired. Sometime my hands and feet are so cold. Some time i feel warmer face but cold inside the body. No fever. I am taking medication for high blood pressure and cholesterol for more than 2 years. But my neck and head ache stays before starting medication and till now.
Clear to wash her face, the next day her eyes are swollen and itchy - also her neck and face.
Well that is finally gone after months, now I am getting the swelling in my eyes in the mornings and my bottom lip has swollen up, this morning I got a raised bump on the side of my chin then my lip on that side swells up. I also have itching on the bottom of my feet and my hands itch sometimes. I take two benadryl for everything and its seeming to help me so far. But Im 52 and have never had these problems before. Never was allergic to anything in my life.
It seems like nearly every day now, especially during the morning time, whenever I rub my eye it gets sticky and tinder. It feels like its watery too but more of a sticky pus than normal eye tears. Usually occurs in only my right eye. It makes for some awkward mornings for me at work when I'm blinking and fiddling my eye while trying to get things done and communicate with others. It also feels like a lesser version of pink eye or something.
But it all happened in the eye area first for me, now that I got it under control on my body ( but not 100%) It is starting aroun d my eyes again. My lids are red and swollen and under my eyes the same. They are getting itchy again. My internist gave me a powder to drink for my itchness, he says that it goes through the system better, it is called cholystreome Or something like that. I am at work and don't have it right in front of me. Also my ears around them are itchy too, .
I feel like I want to take the skin off my feet sometimes! Right now they are burning hot and my toe joints are very swollen and I hate it! Why are they like this??? Happy Christmas Eve!
I woke up one morning and my jaw was clicking like crazy. All my glands in my face and neck were swollen. My jaw muscles were swollen too, which is what was causing my jaw to click since it couldn't open and close correctly. Stop stressing. The stress will make it worse. Also, you may have allergies. Take some antihistamine and see if anything subsides. Also the white patches that look like tonsillitis, I was told by the eye ear and nose doc that everyone has patches.
don't mean to jump in on your thread-i have chemo induced hypo & alot of your sysmptoms sound very familiar-i had no idea that the anxiety attacks i was experiencing were from my thyroid? i have been on synthroid for about 6 months & we are still trying to regulate my dosage-seems like i have to increase it just a little every other month-one more thing about the swelling in your throat-was your neck sensitive to the touch?
my mind is racing so much faster than this old body can move. it is catching up to me this morning...every joint is swollen...there are HUGE bags under my eyes...and i am down right exhausted. i think i might need to find a wheelchair so i can be rolled to my seat...lol...i'm not kidding at this point. i have out of town company coming in this weekend and my house and the laundry is suffering.
I've been on 100mcg thyroxine per day ever since (was adjusted to 125mcg and now back to 100mcg), in case that matters. My ankles improve overnight when they are elevated and swell up every day, more so in the hot weather. Within the last year I have had bloodtests and xrays and the doctor says she can't find anything wrong. She doesn't want me to take diuretics as they are bad for my kidneys and heart. Rest with your feet up she says, yeah you try that with 3 kids I say...
Two weeks later my thighs looked about the same and now my scrotum was very swollen, very itchy, and red. I went to a different dermatologist and he gave me Protopic cream and a prescrip for antibiotics (He also said to continue using the Ketaconazole as well). The first night I applied the Protopic to my scrotum the only thing I can say is it was the worst discomfort I have ever felt in my life... my scrotum was on fire! Ice was the only thing that would help it.
I`m now nearly two years in with PTC and get trouble all over my head now with headaches and both my eyes are badly swollen although my eyesight remains quite good. I agree with you about the Diamox it is a horrible drug and sometimes makes me think is it worth carrying on with it. Oh and the weight issue is one that the doctors love to band about as a `cure all`....I wasn`t overweight but thought I`d indulge my neuro and lost Two stones and it made my headaches WORSE.
Only in the mornings, but every morning, usually both eyes are suctioned shut, until I somehow manage to break the suction, but all are painful as my muscles try to open the eyes, but the suction prevents it. I pull in the middle of the skin, pull at a corner, etc. This started after menopause, and I suspect the Minocycline works because there is slight swelling to all aspects of my face, including the inside of my nose. Parts of my eye must be swollen as well.
He said still possibility of a lymphoma but unlikely. The bad news, no explanation of why they are swollen. So I guess the possibility will remain in the back of my mind for a while. Thanks Deb and others for the support! I hope you have the same if not better luck.
I don't have swollen or bruised eyes. The marks usually dissapear in 15 minutes but my concern is about my eye skin condition. I feel like the gogles stretch the gentle and thin eye skin and affects the way it looks. Eye creams don't help. I will try a mask and hope it will help. Logically it should help :-) Really don't want to give up swimming and at the same time don't feel like sacrificing youthfull look...
I had this problem for the past year. At the same time I was getting a RASH on my face periodically around my eyes and on my cheeks. I have always had "sensitive" skin so this was not out of the ordinary for me... but then it got worse and I was also getting swollen eyes and the rashes were painful - burning. The Dermatologist had no cure. My husband finally suggested I see an Allergist. I found out that at 33 yrs old I am newly allergic to NUTS.
Only problem is that I have to use 10 to 20 drops a day. I have 3 questions, why are my eyes red after I wake up? If my eyes keep getting red in the morning will it cause my eye's blood vessels to grow and expand permanently? its hard and expensive to use 10 to 20 drops a day is there anything else I can do for my dry eyes?
I went online to find some answers today--- I have excruciating pain in my lower back when I wake in the morning. It's every morning no matter what bed I sleep on. I always sleep on my back. The pain will dissipate after about 45 minutes. The pain seems to travel through my lower back and in towards my [kidneys?] I am a 28 year old female. The pain has been there since I was 21. I have been taking opiate meds for several years and I am currently coming off from them (through Dr.
