Please note that the postmeal glucose level is taken two hours after the meal. You should also consistently check these levels as a single abnormal value doesn't mean diabetes. I hope this helps.

In my last test I also got the HbA1c checked, it is: High Performance Liquid Chromatography-HPCL = 5.5 % (normal range 4.27 -6.07) The question is that fasting glocose test is indicating high glucose level but HbA1c in reasonably below the max. value. Which one is to be relied upon? Shall I be concerned at these glucose levels? Thanks in advance.

Avatar m tn t matter whether they call it non fasting or fasting glucose test result. You know you were fasting and the numbers are what your blood glucose was on those two tests. And they are slightly elevates and fall within the range of impaired fasting glucose. I think you should closely monitor your lab values and you might want to invest in a glucometer to test your blood yourself. The cost is often covered in whole or in part by the insurance company with a doctor's prescription.

"Glucose tolerance test" I believe if the reading on that one is higher than 140mg/dl you are considered pre-diabetic and higher than 200mg/dl you are diabetic. The second test is the one GDSgirl mentioned where you drink the sweet stuff and they take blood after a few hrs.

A person with a fasting blood glucose level of 126 mg/dl or higher has diabetes. That is from the American Diabetes website, http://www.diabetes.org/about-diabetes.jsp So, I think your doctor is doing all the right things. Why don't you look at that site or the JDRF site.
Avatar m tn For the most definitive diagnosis, more than one value is used. A person can be diagnosed by using fasting plasma glucose level, the HGB A1C, and an oral glucose tolerance test. The guidelines for a diagnosis of pre-diabetes are the following: AIC: 5.7-6.4 Fasting Glucose: 100-125 Oral GTT: 140-199 Therefore, if you compare your numbers to the diagnostic guidelines, a diagnosis would be iffy. It's not clear enough, IMO to say either way.

Don't have the results yet but the blood sugar test they did initially showed a level of 140. I know both of those put me into the category of diabetic. The FDA does not require brominated whole wheat flour to be listed on the nutritional label. One can assume the bread contains it, as many commercial brands do, if the nutritional label has a number listed next to carbohydrates and sugar. But then, your tolerance for whole wheat bread just might be zero as fruit to me is zero.
