My tonsils are a little swollen and a little sore, with some minor white flecks. The glands on the side of my next are just slightly swollen, but not really sore. Also, I've been somewhat congested lately, but I have no other symptoms of illness/cold/allergies.
I'm pretty sure this is directly related to the stressful situation I've been in, so basically I'm just trying to figure out what treatment I should seek. I've been gargling and wiping down the tonsils.
My throat was extremely sore, with swollen tonsils and glands, and for about 3-4 days I had 3 white blotches on my right tonsil. Its now almost 3 months later, and my tonsils/glands have remained swollen, but do not hurt. I went to the dr, and he put me on penicillian, but they've only unswelled a little. I also have terrible allergies, especially this time of year, which could be a reason they're swollen.

Infection can cause your glands to swell up bad, and when glands are swollen in your neck, it often causes pain when you move your neck or touch the gland with your fingers. Yup I agree with Evie, check your throat for little white spots... if you have tonsils the spots will be on them or if not, they will be on the back of your throat.

Well that's a relief. The doctors had told me that it looked like tonsillitis and prescribed me penicillin, also for an ear infection I have; she also took a swab of my throat to see is it was the streptococcus infection (strep throat) but I did not get told when the results would be back.
The discoloration may look like streaks in the back of the throat or blotches on or around the tonsils. In addition to the white spots, your tonsils may feel scratchy and you might find it difficult to swallow.
Other symptoms that often accompany white spots on the tonsils include:

I think you have done the correct thing by getting the test. You may well have a common yeast infection. I am assuming since you had the test you saw a physician, did the doctor put you on any type of medication at all? Usually when you have white "spots" on your tonsils it is tonsillitis or strep throat, but in your case with the additional exposure to a body fluid it can be a transmittable candida infection or other form of STD.
2 days later, March 22, 2008 I developed a throat infection which consisted of swollen tonsils with white matter covered all over the tonsils. On March 26, 2008 I went to the doctor (in NYC as I was on a business trip) and the doc took a throat swab (still waiting for results - dont know why its taking so long). I came back home on friday and went to my home doctor Saturday March 29 where he also took a swab (still waiting for results on that as well).
Whist after one day, the urethral symptoms totally disappeared, one white lump appeared on my tonsils on the first and second day, and then dissappeared, however the swelling of my tonsils did not subside.
I went back to the doctor and he prescribed me Celesemine (Betamethazone 0.5mg / Dexchlorfeniramine malate 4mg) 3 x a day for 4 days. Presumably to see if it was an allergy.
Okay, so here's the story. For the past month I've had swollen tonsils with white pieces of mucous or whatever and they tend to break off and they're not that great tasting. I've also had horrible breath and a slight sore throat. So i go to the doctor and he tells me it's strep so he gave me an antibiotic. I've known that it's not strep and the doctor was stupid.
My throat go a little better over the next 4 days then a week after I went to urgent care I woke up and my tonsils were very swollen and covered in white. My glands were sore in my neck when I pushed on them. The next day the tonsils still very swollen and covered in white and very sore. Is this hiv related?
A little over a week ago, I perfomed oral sex to a friend of mine. I just noticed white spots at the back of my throat, namely the tonsils. They aren't inflamed or swollen, just white spots. they don't hurt or anything. Could this be tonsilitis or some kind of std/sti? no pain or discomfort as of yet, I'm planning to get them check out. but for a small peace of mind for now, can anyone tell me what they might be?

However, on a great note I had a undetectable viral load (at GP so Im guessing it was a PCR RNA) and negaitive RPR and surface antibody for Hep B. this was ~10 weeks after this event.
Over the course of the next now 3 years I have had abou t20 negaitive HIV tests, oraquick advance HIV1/2 and the last being an actual EIA through my university in Ohio and was negative.
White spots on the tonsils can indicate exudate, i.e. pus coming out of the tonsils. This would be a form of tonsilitis, possibly even strep, however that does not sound like your case as you have no discomfort with these spots. It's actually failry common for women, or men, to get throat infections after performing oral sex. One way to try to prevent infections is immediately gargaling with anti-bacterial or bacterial fighting agents-mouthwash will do, after the oral sex.
