Avatar f tn Any balanced diet and exercise will help with weight loss. High protein and lower carbs are a decent idea. We do need some carbs, but a lot of people have lost a lot of weight by simply cutting anything white.... flour, bread, sugar, tortillas, rice, etc. Eat the healthiest food available. The short of it is, eating right, eating often but watching the caloric intake, drinking plenty of water and getting plenty of exercise.....

Avatar n tn Carbs are necessary for energy production, but there are 2 types of carbs - simple and complex. Simple carbs include things like bread, potatoes, white rice, pasta, etc. Simple carbs cause blood glucose levels to spike when we eat them. Complex carbs are those contained in whole grains (fiber), vegetables, etc. They take longer to digest so don't increase glucose levels as much.

Avatar f tn Dieting does not take a lot of starving, it takes a lot of changes. Water, exercising, counting calories, light on the simple carbs, like white bread, white rice. Plenty of fruits and vegetables, lean meats. You can make these changes all at once or one at a time. Whichever is easier for you. Give it at least three weeks to see your pants fit differently. You can do it. Do it for your health!

White beans, such as white kidney beans, chicpeas, aduzi beans, and other beans are good because they're high in protein and also in fibers that help control blood sugar and cholesterol. Avatar m tn However, I just noticed in this months issue of runners world some great low fat recipes that are unusually high in carbs. For example, on page 48, they list the breakfast of champions, 1 cup oatmeal topped with 1 Tbsp honey, 2 Tbsp dried cherries, 2 Tbsp walnut haves, 8 oz of plain kefir, and 1 medium banana. This supplies 600 calories and 90G of carbohydrate. No bad for breakfast. (But watch your calories if you aren't burning that many).
Male Congratulations on the 45 lbs weight loss. Did you have trouble controlling your appetite on that small amount of food? I have recently been diagnosed with pre-diabetes, which could turn into full blown type II diabetes. I'm on a mission to lose about 23 lbs and so far, it's not going very well. You have to maintain your diet, in order to keep the weight off and to maintain your blood sugar levels. Carbs under 40 sounds extremely restrictive.

Avoid highly process carbs and cakes, candies, cookies - things which break down easily and will raise your sugar.. Make sure you put fat with your carbs as it also slows down the absorption. Use natural fats as much as possible. Ie butter or cream in your potatoes, cream in your coffee. Do not use low fat foods. Regular fat cheese and yogurt, etc. Eat the fat from your meats.
Avatar n tn I gave a comment here and the post shows I commented but I don't see it. Maybe it will show up some day but the website seems to be having a host of problems. Basically, carbs aren't all created equal, and calories are not your best source of tracking weight. Calories are one factor, but how well and how quickly you metabolize your food into sugar for energy is more determinative, as foods that turn quickly into sugar have to be burned off quickly or they store quickly as fat.

I think what most would advise is to avoid white flour, bagels, sweets, anything that turns to sugar quickly in your system. That's why you're craving sugar -- carbs are necessary for energy, and sugar is quick energy but also stores as fat if not burned immediately. Same with processed carbs.
