Which is better aciphex or prilosec

Common Questions and Answers about Which is better aciphex or prilosec

aciphex

Avatar n tn Besides the cost, is their truly a difference between Nexim and Prilosec. The active components in Nexium are esomprazole magnesium and in Prilosec are Omeprazole Magnesium. Also, Nexium comes in 20 mg and 40 mg capsules and Prilosec is sold over the counter in 20 mg tablets. My GI switched me to Nexium because Aciphex gave me terrible side effects and Protonix made my water brash symptoms ever worse. I have tried Prilosec in the past and it didn't have much of an effect for me.
Avatar f tn ve tried Prilosec, Nexium and Aciphex, all for extensive periods of time. My # 1 all-time fave is Nexium, and Aciphex is also very effective. Prilosec doesn't seem to work as well. Just my experience.
Avatar m tn s very little chance of recieving a persciption for the better medications ( I feel that the Nexium worked better than Prilosec, and that Aciphex worked better than both). the greasy, acidic, and overall bad for you foods must be cut out. these foods with irritate existing conditions and/or create new ones if it's GERD or gastritis. good luck, and i hope everything gets better for you soon.
Avatar n tn Has anyone tried Zegerid? So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me. I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?).
Avatar n tn I have actually been on some form of reflux med for a bit longer than 5yrs and started with Prilosec OTC, then prescription Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and briefly Prevacid. These days I tend to take whatever I have in my medicine cabinet (Aciphex or Prevacid) twice a day, max dosage, and occasionally a tagamet to help out. I have a hiatial hernia that is going to be fixed soon so I am hoping to get off the meds and that the side effects will eventually go away...I hope.
Avatar m tn had mylanta and prilosec and the situation got improved.. doctor recommended aciphex and currently i am on that.. situation seems to get better but at times, the condition that I have something stuck in throat and a little difficulty to swallow flares up. Got a sore throat a couple of days back. but now it is better. feeling weak and has muscle pains occasionally.. any ideas? should i expect improvement only after a while? currently i am on the 15th day of taking aciphex...
Avatar n tn (1) Is the above true? (2) Are the side effects the same, and (3) What's the difference between the two. Thanks for your time.
Avatar n tn Sorry. My original question was whether or not reflux medications (Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, & Prevacid) could have this tic as a side effect. I have experienced every other side effect from these drugs so I figured that the tics could be from that too. I believe the drugs caused a tremor I temporarily had in my hand (prescribed propranolol for 1.5yrs), hyperhydrosis (4yrs), and insomnia (recent). I have been on any one of these drugs for around 7yrs and look forward to getting off soon.
Avatar m tn Been on prilosec, nexium aciphex, etc., ever since. My GP ordered an upper GI. All normal except MASSIVE GERD. He doubled my nexium to 2 a day. Also had a chest xray which was normal. He ordered abdominal blood work - all normal (gall bladder, liver, pancreas, etc) Still couldn't shake the intermittent nausea....Had an endoscopy - showed gerd, slight irritation of esophagus, small hiatal hernia and stomach blisters and nodules which were removed and benign.
1744042 tn?1311261168 Many of us who have thyroid issues have or had GERD or acid reflux. I was on Aciphex, which is one of the stronger acid reducers and at times, that didn't even touch the reflux; my insurance quit paying for Aciphex and I was forced to go to omerprozole; I'd have to take 3-4 times the recommended dosage before it made any difference at all. Once I was dx'd hypo/Hashi and began getting my thyroid levels stabilized, the acid reflux went away.
1387175 tn?1326400997 I had an endoscopy as well as a mannometry test done and my lower esophogus is weak... since the prilosec worked but gave me weird side effects my GI dr put me on Aciphex which works just as great and no weird side effects from it.
296025 tn?1233256719 Prevacid is a Protein Pump Inhibitor (PPI) like Aciphex, Nexium and Prilosec. It's indicated for GERD (chronic acid reflux) and as far as I know has nothing to do with treating Hep C, other than if you happen to have GERD. I believe Prilosec is a generic sold OTC but not 100% sure so speak to your doctor and pharmacist regarding switching off.
Avatar n tn Your condition may be related with an alkaline reflux (i.e; bile or pancreatic secretions) which does not respond well to any precautions against acid reflux while result in same symptoms. Moreover, these drugs may worsen your complaints as well.. I think you should get a specific invasive test for this condition performed in university clinics.
Avatar f tn s (proton pump inhibitors) are a group of medications used to treat GERD like Prilosec, Prevacid, Protonix, Aciphex, Nexium, and Dexilant.
Avatar f tn However, there is another one, Aciphex, which was about 30 dollars cheaper. I am back on the Prevacid as the Aciphex didn't work as well ( for me...I was on Prevacid for years and only switched because of the cost...65 dollars). You may want to ask about that. Also, I was told my pharmacist that otc prilosic works well too.
428886 tn?1217682034 I thought I read somewhere not to take anti acids while on tx. Is this right? I have had heartburn so bad the last 2 days it feels like a heart attack.
Avatar n tn I have no idea! My gastro-internist left the area to practice elsewhwere and I never went back to have it checked. I continue to take the prilosec. I haven't had any kind of stomach problems or pains. My limited understanding of Barett's is that it is caused or worsened by acid reflux and I haven't had any of that. Do you have a similar problem?
Avatar m tn I have tried all OTC stuff, prevacid, prilosec, and aciphex. I may give nexium a shot because that seems to work the best for some people.
Avatar m tn they must be taken on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after) or up to 60% of the drug is destroyed. The only two that can be taken with food are Aciphex and Dexalant but neither will be OTC for a couple of years. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Since August of 2010 I've had chest pain, difficulty breathing, incredible stomach bloating/distention (even after just drinking a glass of water), burping, reflux, and heartburn. My main concern is the bloating and difficulty breathing. I can barely function on a day to day basis. I eat little bites all day long because I can't eat a full meal or I start hyperventilating. I have had an EGD which showed a polyp (was removed) and some mild esophagitis. I don't have H.
Avatar n tn After endoscopy on 10/17/08 and duodonal ulcers found, all other medication was stopped which is how I identified Aciphex was causing major problem. I've had blood tests, CAT scan, MRCPs (two - one with contrast only and found dilation of biliary ducts; other one with contrast and secretin to check digestive juices and pancreas but that came back as normal). Had heart checked with EKG, chest xray and stress test; headaches also a problem so they did a MRI on my head.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with GERD because I have heartburn and I often regurgitate. However, for the past month I have felt like something is stuck in my throat and I am getting nausea every single night. It is so incredibly frustrating. I'm good for most of the day, and then 6-7pm hits and I get nausea. I have to lay down. The only thing that helps is going to sleep. I am on Nexium and it has done nothing. I still feel the same. Doc just told me to try Prilosec OTC so I started that today.
238010 tn?1420406272 Also have acid reflux and i'm cirrhotic, prilosec is what my hepo put me on, been on it for a few years and it works great.
679466 tn?1247006054 But is there any risk to taking Prilosec or Aciphex or Nexium for the rest of your life? What are the risks? For example - i take Nexium every day, and that prevents any uncomfortable acid issues. If i stop taking the pill, i feel the heartburn. So - if i take 1 pill every day for the rest of my life, of any of the above named medications, what are the risks?
Avatar m tn I have tried a lot of medications (Pepicd, Zantac, Prilosec, Aciphex and now Nexium). None have really helped that much. I have been on Nexium for about 3 weeks and over the first week I started feeling better, but I guess I leveled off because I am at a point that is a little better than 3 weeks ago but still not very good. I have had pretty much every test, blood work, Upper GI, ultrasound and an endoscopy and they have found nothing. I have never been a big spicy or fatty food eater.
Avatar n tn It is important for the eyeMD to determine whether it is just one eye or both and involves the mouth. As you do not mention what medication you are on for reflux, I cannot assess whether the medication is at fault. Dr. Feldman Sandy T. Feldman, M.D., M.S.
