Avatar n tn Thank everyone for the information on whey. I will start back on the whey today for lunch. As for mental health versus hypo causing my eating disorder...think about it this way: What are we told in our society regarding weight loss? What have most doctors and (bad) endo's even told me? Eat less, weight less, more exercise = weight loss. I am a perfectionist so when I see pounds coming on what I cut back on food and exercised more than I had been.
Avatar f tn However, the two supplements have significantly different nutritional profiles, which makes them useful for different goals. While weight gainers and whey protein may aid in your fitness goals, you should consult a doctor before using these or other supplements. Weight gainers and whey protein are different in calorie content. As their name indicates, weight gainers are intended to aid in weight gain, so they are high in calories.
Avatar m tn Ann_Nonymous -OK, whey Protein didn't work for you fine, but don't call others that have had success using it liars. I work out on a regular basis and have been taking whey protein for years with no problems. It has helped me gain muscle mass and lose fat weight in general. It has worked great for me. I use a Whey Protein that has no added sugars or artificial sweeteners. I have been on thyroid meds for over 35 years and have no bad reaction to whey protein and only good.
973741 tn?1342342773 What is the current thinking of protein drinks for weight loss? Are there any good ones? Do you think that they can work to use for meal replacement, say breakfast, maybe lunch and then eat a normal dinner? Pros? Cons?

Avatar f tn Hi all! My hubby is wanting to get back in shape eventually after we figured out if he's cleared the hep c virus for sure. My question is, is whey protein safe if you have liver issues? I've heard someone say no but I never knew the reasoning. We put a call into his doctor but I just wanted to see if any of you might know.
Avatar m tn Same with whey. For building muscle, some prefer egg protein, but most seem to like the whey. Organic is great, but when you're isolating something down to the protein, it's more important it be done correctly. An organic product that uses the wrong kind of method of isolating the protein isn't going to be very helpful. If muscle is what you're after and not health, go ask the biggest guy at your gym. It's obviously working.
Avatar n tn , and would like to return to my 200 weight. 1.5 grms x 200 weight goal and maintanance requires 300 grams of protein daily. Is that much protein safe for cirrhotics/decomp liver to even try reaching this goal? I have been trying to keep high carb/caloric with low sodium up to now. 3- Taken daily, does the lactulose prevent the protein / carbs / calories to benefit my body in terms of gaining weight? Am I fighting a losing battle?
Avatar m tn 1, around 190 lb , been working out for some months now, 4 to 5 times a week. Been taking whey protein . Dont know if to change it up to a mass gainer to get bigger. What you guys think? Thxs .
Avatar f tn Some people are just naturally thin, and that's not a bad thing actually. I've known women who were your height and taller and weighed what you weigh -- people come in all varieties. As for the weight loss in the last year, don't know why that is -- skipping meals? Getting more activity? 18 is a very active age.

Avatar f tn t good for you because it usually substitutes protein for vegetables and fruits, which are where we get our antioxidants and minerals. Whey protein is very good for building muscle if you're doing a lot of weight training, but you're not, and dairy products aren't necessarily digestible for most people. I'd as two questions: first, unless you eat pretty badly, why do you think you're not getting enough protein?

Avatar f tn There is nothing magical about Greek yoghurt -- it's just yoghurt with much of the liquid removed, making it higher in protein and thicker. But Greeks don't sit around eating this yoghurt, which is prevalent in the Mediterranean region, they mostly use it as a dipping condiment or for cooking. Dairy can also be problematic, as it is rich in calcium but very low in magnesium, so if you overdo it you will leach the magnesium out of your system.

Avatar n tn Protein shakes keep being recommended to everyone on here who wants to gain weight, but too much protein is a problem and we have no idea how much protein people are eating who write on here. The only people in most developed countries who get too little protein are vegans sometimes if they don't eat well and advanced bodybuilders. Most Americans get too much protein. The simple way to gain weight is to add a meal. Pretty easy. Eat the same healthy foods you usually eat, just eat more.
1268448 tn?1270365516 There is some data to suggest that whey protein after weight lifting can be helpful. To be honest, your weight may very well be appropriate for your height, particularly depending on your build. The ultimate goal is definitely good health rather than a number.
Avatar m tn Hi, whey protein is just dried milk without the calcium caseinate, lactose, and fat... plain and simple. It's best to use whey protein only for pre-and-post workout nutrition. You're really better off getting the rest of your protein from real food. Drink it 30-45 minutes before working out. For post-workout nutrition it gets a little trickier because the mixture depends on your goals. The post-workout shake is made from skim milk, whey protein.
