If I'm breastfeeding my baby is two weeks I normally don't drink but I was thinking of having one cause I reae it helps with supply but I can't pump yet can I still have one?

You can still breastfeed they make strips to test milk for alcohol so pump and check if it has alcohol dump it and try again in a couple hours until it clears or system alcohol might stay for 24 hrs I think

s been an hour or more after you drink, it can show up. I would use those milk screen strips and test my.milk before I would give it to my son. You should buy some alcohol test strips, they sell then at walmart. That way even after you pump and dump you can still check to make sure there isn't any alcohol in the breast milk.

So I'm wondering how long alcohol takes to get out of your system? So I can pump enough breast milk for "x" amount of days before my milk is good again.

Thankyou for explaining that one to me :-D I'm not a regular drinker but I know one friend said a few months ago that we need a night out after I give birth. I've never had a night out since Oct 2012 so I'm overdue one hehe. I didn't know you coukd get alcojol strips either. I am lead to believe pumpin and dumping doesn't work. The alcohol stays in your milk while its in your system. When you sober up, your milk should be fine. But i would definitely recommend alcohol test strips to be safe.

You should pump and have enough for over 24 hours , they sell test kits for alcohol in breast milk to see when it's safe to breastfeed again. I know they have them at Walmart.

Keeping track of time sounds better plus i want to try and have breast milk saved up. I don't know where I'll put it my sister said if she finds frozen breastmilk in her freezer she'll throw it away.

I wouldn't breast feed if you choose to drink and smoke. Baby gets everything you get through your milk. They even have to prescribe you certain antibiotics if you're breastfeeding. You can pump and dump if you drink or there's strips to test if there's alcohol in your milk but definitely wouldn't smoke for sure.

There are alcohol test strips u can buy to make sure drink lots of water and eat something too and u only need to pump n dump if u become engorged the pumping out alcohol thing is a myth if its in ur blood its just gonna keep going in the new milk made

Go to walgreens or cvs and they sell strips to test your milk for alcohol, that way you dont end up throwing away perfectly good milk :)

Pump and save breast milk so you have a supply there is alcohol test strips so you pump and dump and then test and if its still bad keep dumping because you have a supply built up.
