I have been on Aciphex 20 since 2007, with instant results. After changing Health Ins. , I am told by the current insurer that they won't cover Aciphex. I must go thru a step program, starting with Nexium, which my Doctor dosed at 40 mg instead of 20 mg, saying Nexium didn't come in 20 and the 40mg of Nexium is comparable to the 20 mg Aciphex . Questions: (1) Is the above true? (2) Are the side effects the same, and (3) What's the difference between the two.

My GI switched me to Nexium because Aciphex gave me terrible side effects and Protonix made my water brash symptoms ever worse. I have tried Prilosec in the past and it didn't have much of an effect for me. I'm just wondering what else I can do to alleviate my water brash symptoms. It has been on-going for more than three months. I can pretty eat anything I want(coffee, wine and pizza etc,etc) and my symptoms do not get better or worse after I eat.

The newer inhalers, or any newer medication for that fact, are more expensive, because they still have their patents (usually for 10 years). When there are generics available then the patent has expired. I would go to a good pharmacy to buy my generics. Who knows what you get online, as it is not regulated. You can try to reduce your asthma symptoms through getting plenty of rest, a good diet and keeping your bedroom clean.

My dr suggests switching to Aciphex. Can you tell me if that is as good as Nexium? My insurance will cover it as they would not the Nexium.

There are blood tests used to check for markers for generic abnormalities (like t21) that will also tell gender and can be done much earlier, friend of mine found out at 12 weeks. This drug is still available as a generic, it looks like the price of the drug has increased due to higher cost for Walgreens to purchase it.
