623920 tn?1276478891 I am on CD 37 after my first round of clomid. I had 5 pos. OPT so I am not sure when I O'ed. I have been having sharp pains when I Bd and randomly. So I went in to the doctor CD 27. She saw a follicle that was bleeding and thick lining on the sonogram. She said this could be a cyst or I could be pregnant. She put me on 200 mg of prometrium. She did a Beta and it came back negative but she thought it could have been too early. I still have no af ...
Avatar f tn I talked to the doctor today who told me to stop the prometrium and I should expect my period in 2-3 days. I had my hopes up that perhaps I was pregnant because I know some women who have not gotten a positive on a home pregnancy test until a week after the expected period. I think I had my hopes up too much when the period was late when in fact it may have been the progesterone that was delaying my period. Has anyone had experience on progesterone like this?
212720 tn?1304375415 I have enough prometrium to take me to 12 weeks so I am pretty comfortable discontinuing at that time.
Avatar f tn I would keep using it through the end of your first tri-mester. Pro-Gest is a natural progesterone and it should be fine. Having a sudden drop in progesterone levels can be bad for the pregnancy. If you were using a synthetic kind of progesterone, I wouldn't keep using it and would switch to a natural progesterone like prometrium or crinone. BUT you should tell your doctor and find out what they say. I took a supplement till 12- 1/2 weeks and it worked out great!
Avatar f tn I am now 12 wks and my doctor said I could stop now, not planning to test my level. I have a history of low progesterone and recurrent miscarriage, so am a little nervous about stopping too early.
Avatar f tn t work out, it had nothing to do with prometrium. There are so many women on here who took it during pregnancy to have all turn out just fine. Its a pretty common thing to give us "older" expecting moms. I already have a prescription for it as I am to start taking it again as soon as I get another positve pregnancy test. As far as I know its perfectly safe to take during pregnancy. Also, congrats on being through your first trimester!
611020 tn?1290571629 I have been on prometrium every pregnancy (this one included) except my first one. I miscarried 4 times while taking it, and had the bleeding as expected. It won't stop symptoms, I know that from personal experience. Good luck to you!!
Avatar f tn I took endometrin vaginally 3x a day and they started tapering it off during week 10 from 3x to 2x to 1x and them stopped. It says in the rx info it is contraindicated in pregnancy, but all the IVF women I have met and talked to, have stayed on it until 11 & 12 weeks.
543791 tn?1216381777 Only 25% of fertilized eggs will result in a healthy pregnancy. If you carry the baby long enough to detect heart rate on ultra sound and then miscarry, then they are a little more concerned and would probably treat it more aggresively. My hemoglobin and ultra sound were normal. They want me to try Prometrium first (progesterone) He said it's very common for women to need progesterone during pregnancy and is the least invasive step.
Avatar f tn ) He ordered more labs to make sure that the hormone levels are where they need to be and asked me to schedule a follow up in a week. After this appointment, I decided to take the pills being that the first labs that were done determined that the hormone level was low. My question is I am almost 14 weeks pregnant and was wondering if these pills can cause harm to the baby? how effective are these pills at preventing miscarriage?
Avatar n tn Some get their periods anyway, but other have to stop taking prometrium before AF shows. They usually tell you to take it until you take a pregnancy test, then if positive, you'll continue to take it, and if negative, you'll stop. Best of luck!
Avatar f tn Many people take that med in pregnancy and if your dr tells you to take it i would absolutely take it. Most women who have low progesterone in pregnancy and do not take this med go on to miscarry or have a still birth. I have never known anyone to have problems with their baby due to taking this med. If you have low progesterone you will be at high risk for miscarriage or still birth without this medication even in the second trimester.
Avatar f tn Prometrium, a progesterone supplement, is sometimes prescribed during the first trimester of pregnancy in women who have had a history of miscarriages caused by low progesterone levels. The addition of prometruim during pregnancy helps ensure that the women will carry the fetus to full-term. It works by helping ensure that a placenta is fully formed thus providing the necessary lifeline for the developing fetus.
Avatar n tn I am 21 weeks and have had to take Prometrium orally ever since week 8 of my pregnancy for low levels of progesterone, also after having 3 miscarraiges within the last year. The diagnosis was a Luteal Phase Defect. I am currently still on the Prometrium although I only take 100 mgs everyother day as oppossed to the 200 mgs I was taking daily up until weeks 16.
Avatar f tn I was on crinone (vaginal) and prometrium during my first pregnancy (IVF), and on prometrium only the second time around (natural pregnancy). Best wishes for the remainder of your pregnancy!
Avatar n tn Can prometrium delay me from getting my period? I am afraid to stop taking it just in case I am in fact pregnant. Any help/information would be GREATLY appreciated!
490183 tn?1361213953 Ok, so I'm CD32 today, pretty sure I'm not prego, and 1 day past AF's arrival. I didn't stop my Prometrium, which I started taking 3DPO, just in case I AM prego. I figured I'd stop as soon as AF showed. Since this is my first round of Prometrium, I need to know if it will STOP AF from coming. Or, will it add a couple days to AF's arrival??
Avatar f tn Its effect is to help you body to keep the pregnancy in early weeks. According to him there was no point of taking it after 10 weeks. I am now 10w6d and I stopped. I think you can stop but I'm not a doctor so I really believe you should ask yours before taking this decision.
543791 tn?1216381777 My doctor referred me to a fertility specialist and they were able to work me in quickly. My appointment is today @ 2. I hope they find a simple cause for my m/c's, keep your fingers crossed. I'll update you tomorrow. I asked what to expect when seeing a fertility doctor and I didn't get a lot of responses. So I'll add updates along the way for the next person. I'm trying to be positive and happy that I can at least get pregnant.
Avatar f tn I am currently taking Prometrium twice a day to supplement a drop in progesterone early in my pregnancy. I am already at 13 weeks, have heard a heartbeat and seen the baby in utero doing well. My doc said that it is safe to discontinue the use of the Prometrium at this time. Just wondering what others' experiences were with progesterone supplementation. I am so nervous to stop supplementing!
Avatar f tn had any of u taken prometrium after a HPT for 12 weeks of ur pregnancy. i'm hopeful this time, just ovulated.... i had 2 miscarriages, so waiting for this time to be a +ve one.
Avatar f tn Prometrium is to help raise the progesterone to aid in implantation of the baby. It is taken the day after Ovulation and till the period occurs. Now as it raises the progesterone it can delay your period if you are not pregnant as during the luteal phase (after ovulation) your progesterone will decrease and estrogen levels will rise talling your body to shed the uterine lining causeing yoru period to occur. When you take suppliments the progesterone stays up and may not fall till stopped.
Avatar f tn That sounds fine to me..my progesterone never went over 10 with my son on prometrium and he is now a healthy 2 year old!good luck!
