Avatar n tn Is atorvastatin or pravastatin better at monitoring cholestoral? My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Should I be concerned about the effectiveness of pravastatin?
Avatar n tn Atorvastatin is supposed to be one of the two most effective statins in lowing cholesterol so you are on a good one. Bioavailability is how well a med is absorbed and used by the body and bioavailability varies among the statins. It's actually a desired thing. The liver is the target organ so if it is slowed down in the liver (where this happens), it's in the target organ. But honestly, that is hard for me to understand.
Avatar n tn This med is generic for Lipitor, as you probably already know. I've researched and there is nothing about anger problems. The best thing to do is ask your Dr or pharmacist if this could be a possible interaction. When did you start the Zoloft? I'm asking because anger and personality chances could be a side effect of this med.
Avatar n tn I have used 10mg Atorvastatin for years with no side effects. The doctor is switching me to simvastatin which reacted badly with my liver in the past. Aim is to save money. Is it safe to buy Atorvastatin online ?

Avatar f tn My dad who is 81 years old in India is on Citilin 500mg daily. The neurologist prescribed it after he had TIA number of times. He used to get seizures like symptoms and loose his consciousness. He was bedridden and stopped walking completely. Now, he is up on his feet and doing his regular work after regular physiotherapy. At first, he had trigeminal neuralgia and he was on carbamezapine 150mg twice daily and then 300mg twice daily. I just need to know how long he has to be on Citilin.
Avatar n tn What is the statistic probability that Atorvastatin Ca will convert itself into his enantiomer? We believe that this conversion is improbable for 2 reasons First it requires breaking bonds in two different chiral sites in the molecule which will require substantial energy and will not happen spontaneously Second the statistical probability that the reforming of the bond in the enantiomer in this very specific way is close to zero. We would be appreciative to hear your opinion.
Avatar m tn If the atorvastatin is keeping your triglycerides down, you will need to continue taking this medication for life, UNLESS, you can get the trigs down thru diet. I assume you tried this before being prescribed the medication. Your trigs are currently 1.48mmol/L which is below the limit required for safety (1.7). You are only taking a very small dosage of Atorvastatin, most people are on 40mg daily.
7569019 tn?1460135460 My husband is on lasix with swollen legs. lasix is used to drain the water out of your system. You don't want to ever drink alot of water when you are on lasix because you are already swollen with water. and always elevate your feet. My husband started out with 20 mg and when his water was not draining he went to 40 mg. He has diabetes so he is now at 80 mg of lasix which is helping him, on another thought, too much lasik is bad for you.
Avatar m tn Hello, I was not in the forum for a while but I always thought about you. As some of you might forgot, I had optic neuritis about 5 months ago and it took a while and dozens of tests before they could diagnose me. I also had involuntary movements at that time which almost completely disappeared now when I'm conscious but when I'm half asleep sometimes I continue to have those involuntary movements.
Avatar n tn Is this elevated CPK of 268 something to be concerned about! What is considered a dangerouis level of CPK? Is it possible CPK is a result of exercising(running and weightlifting) or is it the cholesterol medications that's elevating my CPK? Appreciate yours expertise and thoughts on this matter, Thanks!!
Avatar f tn I have been taking Simvastatin 20mg for about 2 years, but recently my bad cholesterol has gotten very high to where it is elevated. Now, I admit to not being consistent lately with taking my medication; could this be the cause for my cholesterol to skyrocket?
Business man2 Also, the anti-platelet effect of aspirin (which is how it prevents heart attacks) is reduced when taken with daily ibuprofen/naproxen. I hope this helps!

Avatar n tn She has been off of the Atorvastatin for 6 days. She is still having memory/confusion issues, so tested her for UTI. She is susceptible to them and yes, she does have one. They are growing the culture and showing that it is not showing any sensitivities. They’ve put her on Cipro, just to have her on some sort of antibiotic. She’s usually very resistant to antibiotics for this. I’ve never seen her have such confusion. Any suggestions would be loved.
8793992 tn?1400079332 is it the side effects? Tonact is Atorvastatin a drug in the group of statins which is used for high cholesterol. It is usually a safe drug. Main side effects are elevated liver function tests and and a condition called rhabdomyolysis. But these are not very common. Stopping the medication will depend on your cholesterol levels after taking the medication and your other problems like high BP, diabetes, family history of heart problem etc.
Avatar m tn I have polyneuropathy in both my feet which may have been caused by statin drugs I took in the past, but am not sure. Do statins cause neuropathy? A doctor recently prescribed Atorvastatin for me daily to reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks. I am 62. Is it OK for me to take this?
907968 tn?1292622204 I imagine they're trained to know which medications work best for which heart problems. As for dosage, I'm not sure. If you look at a PDR the book mentions standard dosages for children, adults and geriatric folks. I know with the antibiotics I use at work we choose which antibiotic works best for which type of injury or specific bacteria. I always calculate dosage according to species (mammals have a different calculation compared to birds or reptiles) and weight.
Avatar m tn He also said since the normal dosage for Atorvastatin is 80 mg, he does not expect any side-effects with 5 mg. Given your experiences with your husband, kindly let me know your comments for the need for Atorvastatin at this time for my father and the potential for side-effects.
1542723 tn?1294447438 If your mouth is dry a lot more often than it used to be, you should drink more fluids and you could try chewing sugar free gum to entice the production of saliva. If your mouth is always dry, you should bring this to the attention of your Doctor also.
Avatar m tn Since last few days I am observing that when I get up in the morning my tongue is coated white. I clean the tongue with a tooth brush and the white coating disappears and the tongue remains in natural pink colour throughout the day. Secondly, there is a small crack in the middle forefront of the tongue. My age is 81 years. I am not diabetic and my blood pressure is normal.
Avatar m tn There are better ways to aim at blood pressure when there is no issue with the heart, such as a good ace inhibitor like Ramipril. 5mg of Ramipril sorted out my BP because the Bisoprolol didn't affect it, unless I was overdosed. I think you are wise to question the decision. What have they decided is your average blood pressure during the day?
