875426 tn?1325528416 A glucose tolerance test is in order. Sounds like your parent does have some indications that could mean diabetes. However, if it is early lifestyle measures as mentioned above should be very helpful in managing it.
Avatar m tn If you are concern about it, you could get a test done to see if you are diabetic/prediabetic/healthy. The test is a two hour glucose tolerance test. you have to fast for 8 or 12 hours, they test your fasting glucose, then they give a sugary drink. 2 hours after, they test your blood sugar again. if your blood sugar is >11.
Avatar f tn I'm pretty sure your doc would say to have your NORMAL carbohydrate intake. Don't go crazy and have too much or too little. The point is to check your body's response to a glucose load. You will probably be getting a 50 or 75 gram glucose drink when you arrive, so if you go in already "carbed up", you may get a false positive. Then your doc will send you for the infamous 3 hour GTT.
9810248 tn?1406027066 24weeks!!! Next week I have to do that glucose tolerance test!!!! Anybody took it already? Please let me know what flavor you and how was it.
Avatar f tn Oh ok that makes sense now I was a little worried
306245 tn?1244384967 The accepted ways of screening for diabetes are a fasting glucose, a random glucose(not as good) or a 2 hour glucose tolerance test. A HgB A1C is sometimes used by doctors but it is not widely accepted as a good screening measure, so I suggest a fasting or an OGTT. You should also have a thyroid screen(TSH) done. Fasting glucose is not perfect, so yes you can have a "false negative" in terms of saying you have no abnormalities in glucose handling.
Avatar f tn My results always came back all good but as ya get older your body does that aging thing and the body tends to the dumps. Just to put it nicely. Regardless, it is a test that is more for the well being of your little one there than anything. Just don't drink anything that has sugar in it before you that the test or you won't be happy with your results. Good luck to yas.
Avatar f tn Glucose screening is usually done between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy.
Avatar f tn You cannot give yourself GD by eating sweets however you could have had a higher level of glucose in your body becuase of the eating sweets. I've done that and failed the 1 hour glucose test with all but 1 of my pregnancies. Lay off the sweets for several days before your next test. Then see what it shows. I have always passed my 3 hr, I just really have to watch my sugar intake in the days leading up. Give it several days beforehand, not just one or two.
Avatar n tn Yes just 1 test can be wrong. Ask for an OGG test Oral Glucose Tolerance test. Make sure that when they do the test that they test your BG every 30 min for 3 hours.
Avatar f tn I just plug my nose and chug it. As soon as the test was done I chugged a bunch of water and ate something that I enjoyed. Sadly it's something we all have to do.
Avatar f tn I had a negative 3 hour glucose test i am now 34 weeks and i now have to check my blood sugar 4 times a day and carefully watch what i eat about the last month, and everytime i check it's exactly where it needs to be! So hopefully you pass it because taking blood is hard to remember although it's for the best! Goodluck!
1057195 tn?1289363329 Hi ladies, have anyone taken the glucose tolerance test as yet. I am scheduled to have mines on the 29 of April. At my last vist my OB said I have glucose in my urine. She said it could be because I had just eaten before my visit. Has this happened to anyone?
Avatar n tn I'm a 53 year old woman who just had a 3 hour glucose tolerance test, here are my results: Fasting - 106 1 hour - 210 2 hour - 230 3 hour - 167 I'm not sure if these results mean I'm a pre-diabetic or diabetic. Thank you for your help in advance.
Avatar f tn I took mine 3 weeks ago & my doctor told me I could eat whatever I want & drink whatever I want just don't eat a bunch of sweets before you take the test & you'll be fine.
6403762 tn?1381712518 Your Dr should have results later that day or early the next. Getting tested for GD isn't bad and if you fail having it is not bad either. You'll just be put on a very healthy diet which is good during pregnancy. It's the cravings that bother most. Just remember who and what it's for and it'll all be worth it.
Avatar n tn hey all, i have not been diagnosed with diabetes but i do have neuropathy and have been ruled out for just about any neuro disorder that could cause my symptoms (burning feet/pain, numbness, tingling in hands/feet). i had a blood sugar test (the finger ***** one) and my level was "perfect". i scheduled a glucose tolerance test just because i want to 100% sure i dont have diabetes...is this necessary? do i need the glucose test if my blood sugar test came back just fine???
5864651 tn?1396931970 I was was wondering what the glucose tolerance test involved I live in the uk and have the 3 hour one on the 8th of january im currently 27w1d. All that it says on the letter ive got from the hospital is that its 3 hour and I have to starve myself and only drink water from 11 oclock the night before.
1209036 tn?1299178657 During this second test, called the 100-gram oral glucose tolerance test, your blood glucose level will be tested four times during a three-hour period after drinking the cola-like drink. If two out of the four blood tests are abnormal, you are considered to have gestational diabetes.
Avatar f tn I have a glucose tolerance test tomorrow & I have not been given any information on or about it. My mum has rang my GP surgery this morning for info and they have told her that i can't have a cigarette after 10pm tonight until I have had my 2nd blood test... is this right? No hate please about smoking in pregnancy I just want advice because surely a cigarette has nothing to do with my sugar tolerance...
