I was recently diagnosed with early copd. Since I do not have health insurance, i go to a clinic. The physician's assistant has prescribed singular for my copd, I don't feel that it is helping me very much. I mostly have shortness of breath & coughing in the evening. This disease frightens me because I don't feel I am getting the right medical advice. I asked about simbicor & spiriva and was told that those meds are for later stages of copd.
First of all, let me advise that if you are a young person, please be cautious of letting yourself be put on Cordisteroid inhalers such as symbicort and advair. Once you have been on those inhalers getting off of them is life-threatening. I never really believed that I had severe asthma but had been put on advair many years ago. Recently I was switched from advair to Wixela as a generic replacement. After only two Puffs off of this I began coughing.
Symbicort does have a long acting bronchodilator which CAN increase blood pressure and pulse rate. I would keep track of the differences in a journal and let your doctor know in your next appointment. You may need to change meds or change doses to manage the increase. Just a matter of playing with meds to lower their interactions.

My maintenance medication was recently changed from Symbicort 160/4.5 once a day to Asmanex HFA 200mcg due to high blood pressure and heart rate issues with the Symbicort.
I'm on day 3 now and ever since I started Asmanex I've been experiencing a productive and incessant cough. The coughing is worse immediately after using the Asmanex.
For the past few months my pupils have been doing this thing where one will move toward the edge of my iris (up and in). The doctors said that they think that I have tonic pupil with tadpole pupil occurring once in a while. However, my issue doesn't seem to match the description of tadpole pupil since it's not a segment of the pupil that gets pulled to the edge of the iris (hence the tadpole shape), rather, my whole pupil stays perfectly round and moves toward the edge.

In the mornings i sometimes have a puff of my symbicort first, then immediately go out for a cigarette (I know, I know). I take the symbicort because my lungs feel tight. The thing is that since i started smoking weed daily, i have never had a proper asthma attack (they were severe when i was younger).
I know im killing my lungs which is why i am taking drastic measures to quit cigarettes.
I recently developed some PVCs (heart palpatations), and I would really like to use a long term asthma controller in place of the symbicort that does not have increased heart rate as a side effect.
Are there any somewhat effective asthma medications (long term controller, not rescue inhaler) that do not have increased heart rate as one of the side effects?
I would really like to know, because I hate taking that symbicort.
I have been taking symbicort for about 8 months and in that time i notice that my weight has gone up by around 1 stone (14llbs), i have never been overweight and have always eaten healthily and taken exercise. No matther how many times i go to the gym or how much salad i eat it wont go away. None of my clothes fit me and i have gone up a bra size or two.
I've found the best person to ask about medication side effects is a pharmacist. When I was having a "little" trouble with Verapamil, I asked the pharmacist to see if what I was feeling was within the normal range of side effects. He told me to go to the hospital. Oh, OK. I went, they took me off the med.

My husband is using Symbicort and now has a very sore throat. He told me that once or twice he has forgotten to rinse is mouth out with water. I also found out that he does not use it every 12 hours, he is using it twice a day but maybe about 9 hours apart. I am wondering if his sore throat is caused by the Symbicort and what can I do for it, I am giving him throat lozenges and pop sickles. This has been going on for about 4 days now and he has been on the Symbicort since July 7th.
My question however is, if I stop taking the Symbicort and the Avamys will the thrush go away, or should I go see my doctor to get anti-fungal stuff (i.e. Nystatin)? I am still on antibiotics for the pneumonia (I have 7 more days to go), and I know that antibiotics can also cause thrush. I'm reasonably sure that it is the Symbicort though, simply because any inhaled steroid I take ends up giving me strep or thrush.
I currently take Xyzal and Nasacort for allergies and medication for asthma (Singulair and Symbicort). I'm also taking allergy shots for cat dander and grass pollens. When I go running by wooded areas I get a horrible runny nose. My runny nose goes away about 10-15 minutes after I get inside from my run. I'm wondering if it could be from allergies or if it could be from something else.

The Symbicort keeps me awake at night when I take the 2x spray/2x a day. The doctor mentioned I need to use Symbicort for a few weeks consistently before seeing the results.
Do I really have asthma if I don't really notice a difference using Albuteral? Should I reduce the dose of the Symbicort to 1 spray 2x a day? Are there other reasons why my peak flow would be so low? I will be calling my doctor about this tomorrow, but I would love a second opinion. Thank you.
In the past 16 days I have begun using Spiriva in addition to the 2 doses of Symbicort I was using daily. Although I get good (better) results from the combination than Symbicort alone, since starting the Spiriva, I am experiencing very dry mouth, and nasal passages to the extent that I occasionally experience light bleeding when I blow my nose.
