coughing

Avatar f tn Coughing can sometimes be the main symptom of an asthma attack (but again, a persistent cough does not necessarily mean he has asthma) As bsmsl stated, a child's airways are smaller than an adults and the wheezing sound is caused by a reduction in those airways either from excess mucous or inflammation - or a combination of both.
Avatar m tn They are also causing me to have anxiety and panic attacks I am constant short of breath.. when i work out it worsens and i start coughing. I cough alot like i have a bad, bad cold. Avatar f tn Asthma often acts up for a lot of people at night. It often manifests with cough, wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath and for some of us we get a lot of mucous too. I would suggest she see a doctor about this if this isn't the first time. pulmonary function tests can be ordered to determine the cause of her symptoms. Sometimes a chest x-ray is called for if the doctor suspects something other then asthma. Does she have day time symptoms too? Does she have allergies?
Avatar m tn When you are short of breath what are you doing? Try and think of the things that could trigger this event. If your hot or cold, or wheezing. Does this happen every week or month How often. Are you under any stress that could be giving you anxiety that you havent ever had before? ECG would show up anything that has happened in the past also. SO you know that your not having a heart attack. Breathing problems usually come along with wheezing coughing or temp.
Avatar f tn My doctor never really explained except to say that I had bronchitis which turned into asthmatic bronchitis. I do not have a history of asthma. So what exactly is asthmatic bronchitis? Does this mean I now have asthma? Also I am using the inhaler when I feel shortness of breath or start coughing uncontrollably is this right or should I only be using it when I have chest tightness? Please help!
Avatar f tn I have noticed upon waking up in the morning or middle of the night that I have this feeling of dryness! I can't hardly breath the air is so dry. I have to go wet my hands and use lotion. My mom used to get this when I lived with my parents - when the furnace was on. I hope that makes sense (especially the hardly breath part - it is like when you are talking you skip some words or they come out about half...I have had that then I tell my husband when he looks at me weird - dry!! Lol.
1139665 tn?1382710950 I'm really freaking out and hoping someone can help me. I've had a cough for the last 6 or so weeks and now i'm finding blood in my spit after coughing. It started out to just be a tickle in my throat/lungs that would make me cough. Cough was dry and breathing was fine. 6 weeks later the cough is worse...i'm wheezing off and on and this morning and this evening i've found small spots of blood in my spit after a coughing fit. I've been to the doctors a couple of times.
Avatar m tn hi , im 19,i have the same problem,im waking up wit an accumulation of yellowy brownish chunks in my mouth, im not a regular smoker only when im on a night out,i have no chest pains or shortness of breath i dont know wat this gunk is??
212161 tn?1599427282 It sounds very much like asthma. You can be out of breath, wheezing or coughing alone or all at the same time. Yours sounds like the cold air and leaves were also making it worse, so try to cover your nose and mouth with a scarf or something when you go out to help prevent symptoms. Your doctor will do some tests and listen to confirm that diagnosis, or suggest something else if it turns out that you don't have asthma. Good luck!
Avatar m tn For the last month I am sneezing up blood and coughing up blood(coughing up blood not sure if it is from nose), have headache all the way down the middle of the brain and when I swallow, also I am short of breath and wheezing, also have chest pain and back pain, right now I have itchy back. But, I had an x-ray 6 months ago that showed clear lung. I had 6 x-ray in the last year due to recurring chest pain. What is wrong with me.? Is it allergy or asthma?
Avatar n tn What do you mean you have a lot of phlegm? Are you coughing up a lot of phlegm? Then that is related to chronic bronchitis, especially that you have a long smoking history. Spasms in the throat? Maybe you have VCD (vocal chord dysfunction), look it up and see what you think of the symptoms. Mucous in the throat can be due to GERD or Post nasal drip. Even Gerd can give breathing issues. For some their only symptom is a dry cough. What other symptoms do you have outside of shortness of breath?
Avatar f tn Yesterday while eating ice cream, I somehow inhaled/choked on it. I immediately started hacking, which normally fixes the problem, but this time it didn't. I tried to take a breath in, and I started wheezing. I couldn't breathe properly at all. I was with friends, and tried to say "help me" but the words wouldn't come out. All that came out was more wheezing. I continued coughing and eventually it stopped, and I could talk and breathe again.
Avatar n tn the simptons i have are lack of breath, wheezing, and coughing. they usually keep me up at night. i get up in the darkness, and reach for my puffer, and puff myself a couple of puffs, and i breath in and out slowly. my mum usually comes in to give me some cough medicence, and paracetomal. i genarally dont feel well, and my question is, do you know whats wrong with me by the information i showed you above? thanks, jenny.
212161 tn?1599427282 But, ordinary acute bronchitis usually resolves in less than 6 weeks and, sometimes when the infection causing acute bronchitis is severe, it can bring on asthma, with cough and wheezing that persists. This does not mean that you will have it the rest of your life. One type of inhaled medicine, used to treat asthma can cause palpitation and what has happened suggests that you may be sensitive to the side effect of this medicine.
Avatar n tn I can hardly take a deep breath without coughing or wheezing. It really hurts when I have to sneeze. Is this a common symptom of asthma...this has been going on for almost a year.
215342 tn?1287838418 I went to the doctor on Monday of this week (5 days ago) and was told I probably have bronchitis, although if I didn't respond to antibiotics, he wanted to test me for Whooping Cough. He put me on Levaquin because I am allergic to Erithromycin. I have not improved significantly. I'm wondering two things... 1. Does it sound like whooping cough? 2. Even if I get tested, would it be accurate due to the Levaquin? These are my symptoms...
1171933 tn?1263476758 My Chihuahua has severe bouts of Coughing, Wheezing, Choking, & Breathing problems during the night. It seems to be a little bit better in the daytime. I've had him to Vet's, but after spending $1,000 + he has not changed. Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be?
Avatar n tn Hello, The doctors are right in keeping these three possibilities for your symptoms as all three are associated with violent coughing after eating food. Asthma most commonly presents with shortness of breath and wheezing but there are some patients with asthma whose main symptom will be cough. Diagnosed by the use of a methacholine challenge test which can amplify abnormalities on spirometry thus allowing the physician to uncover signs of asthma.
Avatar m tn m allergic to penicillin), and told me to take tylenol four times a day. My symptoms leading up to this were dry cough, wheezing, and coughing fits so violent it set off my gag reflex and it has hard to breath. From the violent coughing my ribs were killing me (i had to hold my ribs every time i coughed) and my throat was killing me. As the days progressed it got worse and I was getting no sleep from coughing all night so I went to the doc.
Avatar f tn It does not appear that this is the case since you are an excellent historian and did not mention this. The third question is does it affect his sleep? Again, you have not mentioned this. On the basis of those three answers, I would not be as worried as you probably are and continue to use the Flovent as you are doing and stay in close contact with the Pediatric Pulmonologist.
212161 tn?1599427282 I never had it either until one year ago, but because I went on a very healthy diet and eliminated milk products and sugar, I stopped wheezing. Lately I started eating all of the bad foods again and now once again I am wheezing. I too refuse to take medications, but 2 weeks ago I did use Xopenex (it's a bronchodialator) that helped me to breathe. I am not giving up though, I don't even want to take this, but I was wheezing and it appeared to be a cold with the asthma. It will pass.
Avatar f tn Sometimes I feel like I cant breathe deeply. When I laugh I feel out of breath and usually the coughing begins. I dont have any wheezing. Could this be asthma?
