I am a type II diabetic and I would like to know what is considered a "good" blood sugar reading for me when I test at different times of the day....before meals, after meals, fasting in the morning, at bedtime and other random times during the day.

This is a fasting blood sugar test from a predetermined time in the evening the night before the test, then they give you a drink with as many calories in it as in the average meal then check the blood sugar two hours later to see if the body is doing it's job. it could very well be. you need to keep a record of what you eat the time and when your blood is at its lowest. mark your calendar. then take it to your doctor this should give him a big clue about what is going. but if you are really getting that confused. maybe you should go to your doctor now. good luck.

Also suggest you carry glucose tablets or hard candies [not sugar free] with you in case a crash occurs. Eat one to elevate your blood sugar rapidly. Dropping below 60 is dangerous, down to 34 is life threatening.

If 148 is the average reading for your fasting blood sugar, than that is diabetic level. Fasting blood sugar readings should be less than 100 and ideally 80-90. Unless you know what your blood sugar readings have been with and without food, you can assume from your reading of 148 IF it's fasting, that you have had diabtes all these years. I am surprised that your family doctor did not keep on top of this. I am a former diabetic that was insulin and pill dependent.
