Common Questions and Answers about What should blood sugar after you eat

blood-sugar

Avatar m tn Did you know that what you eat directly after exercising – typically within two hours – can have a significant impact on the health benefits you reap from your exercise? Consuming sugar within this post-exercise window, will negatively affect both your insulin sensitivity and your human growth hormone (HGH) production. A recent study in the Journal of Applied Physiology found that eating a low-carbohydrate meal after aerobic exercise enhances your insulin sensitivity.
1058898 tn?1275675151 With diabetes there are no hard and fast rules such as when (or even what) you eat. But if you want to control your blood sugar, you probably wouldn't want to eat with a blood sugar of 145 because it has nowhere to go but up, unless you ate something with 0 carbs. I would consult your doctor or a dietician if you are having trouble keeping your blood sugar from going too low and if you are always hungry.
1058898 tn?1275675151 Your numbers are definitely in the pre'diabetes range, I{m not sure why your doctor hasn{t diagnosed you as such. The criteria for pre'diabetes is over 100 fasting or an A1C of 5.7. Diabetes is fasting of 126 or A1C of 6.5. Non'diabetics generally don{t go over 120 whatever they eat. You should get an A1C done.
7631083 tn?1394352887 For the past week or so there has been a couple of times where I feel very weak and my hands start to shake. I know it means my blood sugar is low so I will try to hurry up and eat something. Its sometimes when I first wake up and there are times when its in the middle to late at night. I'm 36 weeks and 4 days. I should probably tell my doctor when I go in on Friday or should I be more worried about it and do something now?
Avatar n tn In general, if your blood sugar level is below 100 mg / dL after fasting for at least 8 to 10 hours, then your blood sugar is normal. Blood sugar levels are usually lowest before each meal.
Avatar f tn The times to test are mornings before breakfast, before each lunch and dinner meals and 2-3 hours after each meal. Before meals so you can get a baseline reading. After meals so you can see how the foods you ate affected your glucose levels. Normal after meal levels are <180 mg/dl [<=less than] where some doctors want <140 mg/dl. If you go over these numbers avoid those foods. Your A1c will show how well you are controlling and managing your glucose. The goal is below 6%.
Avatar n tn Hopefully my doctor will be the same way I'm going to start watching more of what I eat
193609 tn?1292180293 That's good - but make sure you stick with only 1/2 the bagel as they tend to have a lot of carbs, which could raise your blood sugar and when your blood sugar drops again, you could end up ravenous. That's what happens to me and it becomes a vicious cycle. I've been told that protein and fiber take longer to go through your system and make you feel full longer. That seems to be true for me. Sometimes a rolled up piece of ham or cheese is all it takes to take the edge off.
Avatar f tn If you are having the one hour glucose test the normal after the drink is 140 and under The 3 hour test should be 180 and under after the 3 hours and if you want to know what your everyday fasting blood sugar level is 90 and under.
Avatar f tn While it is normal to have a rise in blood sugar level after a meal, excessive rise in blood sugar levels could indicate inappropriate dosage/ timing of injecting the insulin or excessive or inappropriate proportion of carbohydrate in diet. You could start by slightly lowering the carbohydrate and increasing the protein portion of diet. If this does not seem to help, I would suggest consulting your treating endocrinologist for adjustment in dosage/ timing of the insulin. Hope this is helpful.
Avatar n tn Tomorrow I am going to do my three hour blood sugar test and I am so hungry!!!! I'm not suppose to eat sugar, what can I eat thats good? I feel so upset I have nothing to eat, I can't just eat fruit all day, I need food! And snacks!!! What did or do you girls eat for those who have gestational diabetes??
Avatar f tn For anyone that finds this in their searches, it turns out that I actually have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Autonomic testing showed a drop in blood pressure after eating which cause these symptoms!
Avatar n tn This would also indicate that your blood sugars after eating are already going high. You should check your blood sugars 2 hours after eating. They may be very high. Please research.
Avatar f tn That's really weird, I eat a lot of bananas too. A lot of fruit and veggies in general, I would think since you're eating healthy and not just downing empty calories that it would be fine. Maybe just start eating everything in moderation? I know I always check the back of the box of whatever I want to want to eat/buy for ingredients and sugar/sodium levels.
Avatar m tn Make sure you start looking at food labels. Try not to eat carbs after 6PM or so. If you want a snack, eat cheese or some other protein--no carbs. Find out the difference between "good carbs" and "bad carbs." (White bread, processed food, ice cream, regular soda, candy, etc.= bad carbs) Also, the best thing you can do for yourself is start a regular exercise program. It doesn't have to be strenuous.
Avatar m tn Testing times should be fasting and then 2 hours after eating. By doing this you will also learn which foods make your blood sugars high (and you can then avoid them). if your blood sugars stay high even with lifestyle measures then medications (oral such as metformin, or injected insulin if your sugars were very high) would be recommended. Please read up on diabetes and it's management.
Avatar f tn Hello, fasting blood sugar in the range of 120 - 130 puts you firmly in diabetic territory, as does your hba1c of 7.4 which corresponds to an average blood sugar level of about 180. These levels would already require medications. Consider that normal fasting should be below 90 and normal hba1c is < 5.0. Given your height and weight, you are not overweight. Further you have no family history of diabetes. Therefore, I believe you should be evaluated for adult onset type 1 diabetes.
Avatar f tn Weird I have the same problem as that when after I eat I get dizzy too. I thought maybe its because your blood is rushing to your stomach to digest your food.
Avatar f tn Otherwise, eat healthy, but eat a variety of foods. What you eat changes your flavor, and in theory, introducing your baby to different flavours from the start should make solid introduction easier, same thing with flavoring their baby foods with garlic, curry and other salt free seasonings, in theory should assist in preventing a picky eater.
Avatar f tn An hour after eating (and I was full) my blood sugar was 102. So as you can see, we need to pay attention to how our bodies are reacting to the foods we are eating. I was diagnosed less than a year ago, and not on any medications for my blood sugar, and have lost 15 pounds, now weighing less than 100 pounds.
Avatar f tn m to inform her if 3 of my blood sugar readings fasting are higher than 130 and if 3 blood sugar readings 2 hrs. after eating are higher than 180. So, that sounds normal for us type 2 diabetics. If you were to take another pill, it would go to low, IMO. Hope this helps you!
Avatar f tn Thanks for your help! I appreciate your feedback! I was wondering about the reactive hypoglycemia and if that's what it could be. This lower blood sugar after eating didn't start until my blood sugars were under the normal limits all throughout the day. I realize it wasn't that low but it was lower than what I was used to. Also, I was wondering if you might know about normal insulin levels? She checked my insulin level and it was 6, she said 0-25 was normal???
