Ok tried on the other forum and nobody is responding so maybe I'll have better luck here. Lastnight I couldn't sleep much because my nose was so stuffy, and then today my throat just feels super dry constantly. Is there anything I can take for my symptoms? I've done salt water gargle and saline rinse for my nose and neither one helps. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks!

m suffering from a scratchy throat, thick mucous, mild headache and post nasal drip. Is Mucinex safe to take? What other relief measures have worked for you?

When I have these episodes of constant throat clearing the only relief I get is from Tussonex cough syrup and this helps for about six hours. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I used a tiny bit of light Karo syrup (you can get it at any grocery store) in a bottle and it clears up constipation within a few hours.

Starting with Zyrtec, this is an over the counter medication generally regarded as safe. It only is in the system for a short time based on its half life. Children can take this usually without incident. However, once stopped, some allergy sufferers are uncomfortable. Perhaps this is what is going on. Again, please talk to his doctor. Why did you discontinue it? Was there a particular reason? It's an antihistamine.

You can take robitussin cough syrup, just the original though no "DM" or other extra stuff. Zyrtec, claritin, and sudafed are all ok too.

I ran across this forum while searching for information on Mast Cell Activation Syndrome with P.O.T.S. (positional orthostatic tachycardic syndrome). I have a suggestion. Some of you might want to try taking an H1 and H2 histamine blocker an hour before eating and see if that does any good. Benadryl is an example of an H1 and Pepcid is an H2, both available over the counter. Benadryl will knock you out if you aren't used to taking it. Zyrtec might be a better choice for an H1.

now is 5 weeks pregnant again and everything is looking good. I have been TTC for two years and am wondering if I should try it. Is it safe? I actually took Mucinex for sinus congestion for two days & today I have the egg white, stretchy, CM. That is what made me think of my friends situation. Any ideas?

a little confused about dmx - It could be dmso - a solvent that is used for cleaning auto parts and also as a carrier to introduce solutions of substances into the system rapidly...kind of like shooting it up. It is also used (non-clinically) for arthritic situations.....its supposed to help.....it penetrates and carries substances through the skin and into system. And then again cough syrup has gotten more popular lately for some reason....DMX - perhaps its a drug moto cross?

Not that an overabundance of any form of sugar is so great for you, but the artificial stuff is worse for you. Again, the caffeine itself isn't too terrible for you and it won't cancel the effects of the antihistamine. I often have to drink coffee if I take Benadryl or Zyrtec, just so I will be able to stay awake. Drinking caffeine in moderation is still key. Too much caffeine is still bad for your health.

I agree with all the PP's (previous posters)...the Benadryl at night is a big help for breakthru anthistimine properties which don't always last the full 24hrs. See if your Dr agrees, too ? Have they tried Singulair for seasonal allergies? The sometimes works well, too.

Sounds like the flu. Keep the windows open (if it's not too cold), have her take some zinc, vitamin D3 and 1000mg of vitamin C and drink lots of electrolytes (Gatorade). A zinc lozenge will sooth the throat. If she coughs get a syrup that will diminish coughing (Robitussin). Try to get her to stay home from work and rest, if possible. These illnesses are generally self-limiting, but they often make the rounds of an entire family.
