Common Questions and Answers about What is vitamin b6 used for

vitamin

Avatar m tn s important, as mentioned above, to know why you want to decrease B6. If you have a high level, given this is a vitamin that leaves the body fairly quickly, once you decrease it to normal levels it should level off. Rather than alter your diet permanently, therefore, possibly depleting yourself of a nutrient you have to have in order to survive, you can chelate it out by increasing your intake of B12 and Folate.

730826 tn?1317943334 Vitamin B6 is necessary to help break down proteins; I've taken it for that purpose, but no, don't think you'll go far with it for weight loss........

703841 tn?1322565968 Nothing is working for me. I am nauseous all day but particularly from the minute I wake up to about 3pm. I find Triscuits help the tiniest bit but it isn't consistent, some days no help at all. Sucking on hard candy also helps a bit. I find I can't drink anything until the early afternoon. That makes it worse and I end up vomiting. I am chomping on ice to try keep fluids up and not get constipatedand in the afternoon try to down a glass of decaf ice tea.

Avatar f tn I too have low vitamin D (~30) and just got my results for vitamin B's. B6 was high at 146.9nmol/L (range of 20-125 is considered normal). B12 was also low at 0.11nmol/L. For about a year now I have been experiencing mind fog.. its like a feeling of detachment from my surroundings. If you read about depersonalization, that sort of describes it. I know low vitamin D can cause this in people who live in colder climates from lack of sunlight/working indoors.
Avatar n tn There are some people who do have permanent damage. It is recommended not to take any supplement of vitamin B6, if you are toxic, and try not to eat large amounts of foods high in vitamin B6 at meals for 6 months. After 6 months I suggest you only get Vitamin B6 from your food sources (no greater then 100mg a day) and not from supplementation. The Food sources with lowest amounts are: Peaches, Milk, Peas, Carrots, Ground Beef, Brown Rice, Soybeans, Avocado, Banana, and Turkey.
Avatar n tn I heard that vitamin B12 can help with peripheral neuropathy caused by the chemo. I went to buy some today for mum only to be told it can't be taken with chemo and that vitamin B6 is what she needs. Can anyone recommend anything for her to take?
Avatar n tn Hi, Regarding vitamin B6, a water soluble vitamin is essential for the normal and optimal functioning of the body. The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) is the average daily dietary intake level that is sufficient to meet the nutrient requirements. RDAs for vitamin B6 (in milligrams), are: 1.3 mg for men and women under age 50; 1.7 mg for men and 1.5 mg for women over the age of 50, 1.9 mg for pregnant women, and 2 mg for women who are breastfeeding.
1381186 tn?1280202029 The most likely for this is B12. Vegetarians in particular can have a problem getting enough B12. But B6 is so involved with manufacturing serotonin and GABA that it is also crucial, but too much of it can cause a neuropathy, so you want the right amount.
Avatar f tn s an amino acid, a metabolite of L-tryptophan, which along with co-factors such as B6 (which is a vitamin) us used by the body to manufacture serotonin. If you metabolize it well and that's what your body thinks you need, then it might help.
Avatar m tn No supplement is going to do anything about curing HepC if that is what you are looking for. Seriously, looks like a list of B-vitamins to me - might as well save your money and buy something that you know is legitimately going to help you on all the levels. There are a lot of snake oil salesmen out there who would take your money in a heartbeat.
1065007 tn?1255540445 It was one of the the most helpful for me .I used the ltyro never after 11am and I took 5hpt for mood once in the am and once in the pm however neither ltyro or 5hpt sould be taken if you are on an antidepressant .I also used b6 and 12 . I have to say On top of all of this i exersised EVERYDAY threw WD and after I got back to normal pretty darn quickly. I think it has alot to do with what I took and the exersise .Most of the people that I know that exersised threw WD had milder shorter WD.
Avatar f tn One way to leach excess B6 out of your body is to take more B12 and folic acid. But somewhere, since this is a water soluble vitamin, if you indeed have a chronic B6 overdose (and not just one that happened on a couple of occasions when you got tested), I'd ask your neurologist why the body isn't just flushing it out. That's probably your answer.
Avatar f tn Lack of vitamin b6 can also cause tingling, depression and cramps amongst others. Recommended range is between 50mg and 250 mgs.Toxicity regular intake of 1000mgs.There is no known toxicity with b3 below 3000mgs,but all vitamin b supplements work together,it is better to have a total vitamin b complex, rather than just one.Brewers yeast are another good way of including all these.
Avatar f tn Did any moms try vitamin b6 and unisom for nausea and have it work good. Then it start to taper off and work less and less? If so what did you do next. I have tried Every other nausea trick such as zofran and a couple others, sea bands, crackers and sprite.
Avatar f tn Reading up on B6 toxicity it certainly explain alot of my symptoms (especially the neuropathy, which I had nerve conduction test for about a month ago and came up normal!). My question is, is my level considered a b6 toxicity? Has anyone had similiar levels and recovered? Is it a matter of just stopping the supplements or can I do anything else to reduce the level in my body? How long does it normally take?
Avatar m tn Vitamin B6 is found naturally in our foods, however, B6 supplements are the main reason for toxicity of vitamin B6. Long term (2+ years) supplementation of 500-5,000mg/day will result in medical issues, such as neuropathy which maybe reversible with discontinuing the supplement and lowering high B6 foods. The recommended daily dose is 1.3mg for men & women ages 19-50 and 1.7 for men >50 years old.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone here knew anything about Vitamin B6 toxicity. I have discovered my blood level is high at 124.2 ng/mL (normal = 2.1 - 21.7 ng/mL). I am experiencing some strange symptoms like blurred vision, humming in my ears, difficulty swallowing and lack of coordination and numbness in my hands and feet. I know the numbness can be a symptom, but I am unsure about the other things. I also am unsure if it's possible to have a high blood level of B6 and not have toxicity.
