Common Questions and Answers about What is the medicine geodon used for

geodon

Avatar n tn I called my physciatrist and the nurse said the physciatrist would call me back monday. Is it safe to wait until then. Is this normal? Will it go away as I get taken off the medicine? Will it get worse?
1610967 tn?1314811101 I had a hard time accepting the fact I had to to Lithium, and now another medicine that scares me is prescribed. I know I can only hope for the best. I am at the moment in my acceptance of my Bipolar disorder that I want to say I don't have it, and I don't want to take the medication. But at the same time the rational side of my brain tells me that if I go off of them, I will end up back in the hospital. I am just kind of all over the place as of late.
Avatar m tn This is going to explain the side effects of Geodon better than I even can and I take it and experienced some of them but mostly only during the adjustment period. Side effects occur differently for each person. http://bipolar-disorder.emedtv.com/geodon/geodon-side-effects.
1202354 tn?1267655734 I am on Topamax for my migrains and for weightloss, well I am taking Geodon as well for depression, my question is.... If I am taking geodon will the Geodon which can cause mild weight gain counter act the weight loss with the topamax??
Avatar f tn com/product/aspadol-100mg/) (Tapentadol) tab is a painkiller that works in two ways to treat mild to serious short-term (acute )and long-term (chronic)pain.Aspadol 100mg Tablet (Nucynta) is a narcotic analgesic that is medicine used to treat moderate to severe acute pain. [Aspadol 200mg](https://buynetmeds.com/product/aspadol-200mg/) medicine is designed for someone with migraine pain or uncontrolled body pain. Powerful ingredients of the tablet help to relieve pain quickly.
Avatar f tn I'll repost this from the response I put on my journal entry to your comment Depakoate doesn't work well on depression as it does on mania. I believe 100 mg. Lamictal which is a mood stabilizer that does work on depression as well is a subclinical dose though only a psychiatrist would know for sure. Cymbalta is of course an anti-depressent. Geodon is an antipsychotic used for bipolar. But all of them together would tend to create cognitive confusion.
Avatar f tn For instance, if you have psychosis with your episodes, and atypical antipsychotic might be a good place to start, but most of them can cause weight gain. Geodon is the exception, being weight neutral (and Abilify is almost as good apparently from the weight standpoint). If you're BP II, especially if you're mostly depressive, Lamictal is a great place to start, and is weight neutral.
Avatar m tn What is it called where it only lasts for a moment or two where you start laughing hysterically but your eyes feel the sting like you are going to cry, but you can't, but at the same time you feel an emotion like you're being slung down a steep hill at 90MPH? (Yes, I have actually been slung down a steep hill at 90MPH so I can actually make that comparison LOL) This started happening seemingly at random after I took Geodon and hasn't stopped even after I quit taking the drug.
Avatar n tn m on 300 mg of welbutrin xl in the evening before bed, 150 mg of welbutrin sr in the morning, 150 mg effexor xr in both morning and before bed, and 40 mg of geodon in the evening. i'm hoping to switch the welbutrin and effexor to something else, either a single medication or two different medications, i've also been put on zoloft, lexapro, and prozac where the medications i'm not on currently either didn't work as they should have, or they had more negative side-effects than not.
Avatar f tn Hang in there hon, your on the right track, and everyone out here is here for each other. We all come from the same place and we're all headed in the same direction, so keep posting....
Avatar n tn How long have you been on the Geodon? My daughter has been on for about a week and her OCD symptoms have not gotten any better. How long did it take for the Geodon work on your OCD?
Avatar n tn It could go either way. For me, it faded off as my body got used to it. Though it could also get worse the more Lamictal is in your system. It's one of those things that need to be waited out, but if it gets uncomfortably worse, talk to your doctor.
Avatar f tn From what I know Abilify and Geodon are weight neutral medications.
969163 tn?1281105479 He has recently been put on geodon, I had some experience, bad ones, with geodon, but for him it seems to work. He is notorious for not taking his medication, either at all, on time, or without food. Once in awhile, when he'll take his nighttime geodon, he becomes very groggy and falls asleep in a chair, on the steps, eating dinner, etc. when we try to coax him to go to bed he gets belligerent and nasty.
602865 tn?1239906277 I have been on both meds I had a bad experience with Lithium which was I got so I could not walk and had to be taken to the hospital. The other drug you asked about Geodon it did not work for me. I was not on both medicines together though. I can not help you any futher. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Do you have this side effect?? I am also on Clonidine for anxiety and high blood pressure. Maybe it is the combination of the two? I am so confused. The medicine is supposed to help anxiety not cause it!!
Avatar m tn but i keep getting a notice that all the questions that can be asked for the day have been used, that no more questions addressed to this doctor can be asked for that particular day. what do i do? i need to ask him about medication-related chills or sensations of cold that i want to cease.
Avatar n tn According to the manufactuer many of the symtoms you are experiencing could be from the Geodon. I suggest you contact your doctor immediately and express your concerns to him/her. There are many alternatives available that do not cause these side effects and remember that everyone is different, so side effects are often different for each person. So another medication may not be as difficult for you and sometimes initial side effects fade after taking the medication for awhile. Good Luck!
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
Avatar n tn My sister has been taking geodon for 6 months now. She is wanting to come off of the drug because it is not working any more. The drug has made her vision worse and her heart is not acting right. She is scared to stay on it. I have done some research and have found nothing good about this drug. She has all side effects. She is on day 1 with NO geodon.
Avatar f tn From what I was told 150 mg. is the lowest effective dose of Lamictal and it should take some time for you to see the effectiveness of it. Two of the medications (Cymbalta, Geodon) you are taking can commonly (especially Geodon) cause extra pyramidal side effects (temporary movement disorders) such as akathesia which can be treated with a side effect pill. I had that problem with Lamictal but with that it is a statistically rare adverse side effect.
Avatar n tn Geodon is the only thing that works for me when I am psychotic, hallucinating or having delusions. The only side effect I get is a little sleepiness so I take it at night. I guess it's just different for everybody. I have tried many antipsychotics for acute episodes and they just don't work or the side effects are too much.
Avatar m tn s still not giving me a proper amount of sleep of which I have taken the past three nights. before i had my episode i could sleep without any problems whatsover. i feel the geodon is blocking my serotonin receptors totally as i've dropped down to 60 milligrams of geodon in hopes of normal sleep patterns to return. can the high dosage of geodon increase the chances of insomnia over time? i can't believe that an episode would cause this problem with insomnia.
758444 tn?1234028617 I would love to find a non addictive form of medication for anxiety. To me they are all the one. Only some are longer lasting. Like Klonopin. It is used for more lasting anxiety sufferers. Not a quick fix for an anxiety attack. But if you ever have to come off it, well, it is the same old problem. Weaning and withdrawls. Just like every other form of medication. Just a case of which one can be used, without losing tolerance, for the longest amount of time. Klonopin wins that race.
Avatar m tn I've been on Geodon for 18 months and Remeron for 6 months. They stabalized my anxiety, but have bad motivation and gave me a flat personality. I successfully weaned off Remeron without any problems. I started to taper Geodon from 60mg to 40mg and got really bad anxiety. Is this my anxiety returning or is this withdrawal? I've had the anxiety for about 5 days now.
