Common Questions and Answers about What is the medication zetia used for

zetia

Avatar f tn Vytorin is a combination of Simvastatin and Zetia so you are taking the same thing without the Zetia so you should not see any changes in how your body reacts.
Avatar n tn Zetia is not a statin; it is in a different drug category.
Avatar m tn I think they have concluded that neither do Zetia, except when used with a statin, so it is the statin doing the work. I also think Welchol has been shown to not reduce cardiac events too. not sure. I am on Repatha. Third bi weekly shot. have about 1/3 of the severity of symptoms that I had on statins. headache, muscle aches. may put up with it and may not. just keepin on keepin on for now. Will see if this gets better, worse or stays the same.
Avatar n tn I am helpless not knowing what to do. My doctor said I have to atleast take the meds for 3 months before the blood test. But then even with this horrible muscle pain he did not ask me to get the CPK tested. Should I ask him? Thank you for the support.
Avatar f tn There is a medication that is being used in Europe that hopefully will be here in the US soon. It is a combination of Coreg and Tropol XL, I believe. This gives all the benefits of Coreg and reduces the tiredness that people complain about. Our relatives in Europe use the medication and have energy to travel to US and all around the states. I am not sure what the name will be of the medication when it becomes available in the US.
Avatar n tn My doctor has changed my medication to Crestor which I was told to first take one a week for a couple of weeks, then (2) pills a week for 6 weeks then he will order another blood test. How long does it take after I go off the first medication before I should be able to tell if it is the medicine causing my muscle soreness? My cholesterol was a total of 282 with a HDL cholesterol in the 80's.
Avatar f tn When you can't sleep from the withdrawals, I've been told that Trazadone is a good choice for sleep because it isn't a controlled substance, etc. What is the story with this medication?
Avatar n tn With numbers as high as yours, you need some medical interaction as lifestyle changes alone will not get your levels low enough to be healthy. You could try getting some exercise, but I doubt if that alone would do it, even with a healthy diet. It is unfortunate that you are in the small minority of people (approx 1% of users) that have adverse side effects from statin use, but not all statins are the same.
Avatar f tn Is 1-1/2 weeks long enough for his other enzymes to come down after stopping the Lipitor? Do you feel he should stop the Zetia as well? What could be possible reasons why the GGTP went up so high? And lastly, do you feel he should have an ultrasound or CT scan at this point? I thank you for your time.
Avatar n tn Well, I stoped taking my Tricor and Zocor for a few months and my heart palps were gone. The problem is that my cholesterol numbers went back up. I started back on the statins and low and behold the palps returned. Anyone that has PVC's and PAC's knows how much of a nuisance they can be both physically and emotionally. Is there any other drug that is not in the same class as statins that works on cholesterol. I already eat oatmeal, take fish oil, etc. Thanks!
Avatar f tn My next step is to request a test that can determine where the muscle damage is. (Recently found out this is possible).
Avatar n tn so he looked it up on his computer and sure enough, that was one of the warnings. I stopped the Zetia and the coughing disappeared completely within a couple of weeks. The point here is that medicines, while helping one problem, frequently can cause another. The meds I take for thyroid, reflux, heart disease and high blood pressure are synthroid, metoprolol, lisinopril, plavix, aspirin, lipitor, tricor, folic acid and nexium.
Avatar f tn I guarantee it is the Lovaza that is causing the problem. I was taking it for 30 days and experienced this side effect and then some. You should have your doctor check you liver enzymes as Lovaza tends to raise them. Think back to when you started on the Lovaza and when the itching started. Lovaza is very expensive and doesn't work any better than any decent fish oil product you can by over the counter to lower Triglycerides.
Avatar n tn Increased liver enzymes could be due to the medications. Metoprolol is known to cause hepatitis. But the elevation is only marginal, so the pros and cons need to be weighed before discontinuing a medication, discuss this with your doctor. But ensure to follow up with your doctor and monitor liver enzymes to see for changes. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Fenofibrate If cholelithiasis is suspected in a patient receiving ZETIA and fenofibrate, gallbladder studies are indicated and alternative lipid-lowering therapy should be considered [see ADVERSE REACTIONS and the product labeling for fenofibrate]. Choleithiasis is Gallstones in the gallbladder. Ask about it. Use this site or the FDAs website to look up the drug interactions and precautions when taking the two drugs together, and if you Dr is not hearing it, then go to another DR.
Avatar f tn I had hot flashes and night sweats for several years, but none in the past few years, until the night sweats began again about a year ago. I am in good health. I regularly take the following medications; zetia, prilosec, neurotin, fish oil, glucosimine, alieve, melatonin, and a multi-vitamin. What could be producing the pink sweats?
215752 tn?1278004771 Whatever you feel best at. The range is wide, but you are at the hypo side now. Could you feel the difference in the past? The longer you've had this the more you can tell the difference. Ask for copies of the bloodwork from now on to make notes on. Also, do you get free T4 and free T4 tested (need these), the actual thyroid hormones? TSH is a messenger hormone from the pituitary telling the thyroid what to do, not the best to adjust meds by.
Avatar n tn Londres is certainly correct that there are a few other options available to treat what could be assumed to be familial hypercholesterolaemia, even though your doctor has obviously tried those that would be most obvious. Generally, if you experience muscle weakness as a side effect of Lipitor (atorvastatin), other statins will produce similar effects, so that eliminates the use of Zocor (simvastatin), Crestor (rosuvastatin) etc.
Avatar f tn My Stomach did enlarge but I think this was due to me being a lot less active than I used to be. However, since feeling much better, I have noticed how my stomach is reducing again with the exercise. I too ate like a mouse. Bypass surgery helps millions of people, but there are things which can go wrong. Grafted veins can close up and become useless which is what happened with me. For the three months they stayed open, I felt much better.
Avatar m tn Just finished Tx 6 months post UDT and now have been prescribed simvastatin for cholestral. I'm 3/3.5 damaged and was wondering if this is the right aveune to take for meds . Will the hep C be reactivated or will my liver get worse now that its trying to get better. Blood work will follow in 30 days. The VA prescribed Zeitia and my new outside Dr recommended to try the Simvastatin ( Zocar) and stop the Zeita. Does this make any sense to anyone? Any comments are appreciated .
Avatar m tn Since I am 38 only what would be its long term effects. That is taking the drug for over 30 years? Finally whether the dosage may be changed? Please help.
