Common Questions and Answers about What is the medication geodon used for

geodon

735919 tn?1236444549 I take 80mg of Geodon. I have been for a long time. I really respond to it. I get tired from Geodon. So I take it at night. Other than that, I have no side effects. Same with Lamictal. I take that also. Anti-psychotics tend to be on the more sedative side. Geodon can cause mania in some people so just watch out for that. But like I said, it is usually more sedative.

602865 tn?1239906277 I have been on both meds I had a bad experience with Lithium which was I got so I could not walk and had to be taken to the hospital. The other drug you asked about Geodon it did not work for me. I was not on both medicines together though. I can not help you any futher. Good luck!
969163 tn?1281105479 He has recently been put on geodon, I had some experience, bad ones, with geodon, but for him it seems to work. He is notorious for not taking his medication, either at all, on time, or without food. Once in awhile, when he'll take his nighttime geodon, he becomes very groggy and falls asleep in a chair, on the steps, eating dinner, etc. when we try to coax him to go to bed he gets belligerent and nasty.
Avatar f tn From what I know Abilify and Geodon are weight neutral medications.
Avatar n tn I was currently taking the medication Geodon that was prescribed for psychosis which after seeing a therapist told me that I was given the wrong diagnosis and did not have this disorder instead of detoxing by the psych who put me on this medication who I suspected after taking this drug put me on a very high dosage from the beggining (80 mg in the morning and 180 mg at night which he decreased to 40 mg in the morning and 120 mg at night) I am detoxing myself.
Avatar n tn According to the manufactuer many of the symtoms you are experiencing could be from the Geodon. I suggest you contact your doctor immediately and express your concerns to him/her. There are many alternatives available that do not cause these side effects and remember that everyone is different, so side effects are often different for each person. So another medication may not be as difficult for you and sometimes initial side effects fade after taking the medication for awhile. Good Luck!
Avatar f tn The ONLY time I feel stable is about 45 minutes to an hour after I take the Lamictal at night. When I get up in the morning, I am confused, tired (exhausted), paranoid, racing thoughts, severe anxiety, naseous (I have lost over 50 pounds in six months (a lot because I can't eat during the day). The loss of appetite is about the same time that I took Geodon. I'm now off of Geodon. The symptoms haven't improved. I really haven't felt well for about a year.
Avatar n tn My sister has been taking geodon for 6 months now. She is wanting to come off of the drug because it is not working any more. The drug has made her vision worse and her heart is not acting right. She is scared to stay on it. I have done some research and have found nothing good about this drug. She has all side effects. She is on day 1 with NO geodon.
Avatar n tn I am on glycine, an experimental antipsychotic in FDA study which is a class of medication called the glutamate inhibitors. They will be the antipsychotics of the future as they cannot cause tardive dyskinesia, diabetes, weight gain, e.p.s or any of the drawbacks of current antipsychotics. Its important to keep aware of them as they are in development and for when they become available which should hopefully be in 5 years.
915369 tn?1355314810 She was trying to taper me off of the Risperdal and starting the Geodon but due to financial reasons I hadn't been taking any of my medication for about 3 months (during which time I didn't really have any major episodes, just a little bit of hypomania at one point).
Avatar m tn but i keep getting a notice that all the questions that can be asked for the day have been used, that no more questions addressed to this doctor can be asked for that particular day. what do i do? i need to ask him about medication-related chills or sensations of cold that i want to cease.
Avatar n tn i was on zero mg geodon/4 mg perphenazine for just one day and started getting chills. and when i took the 20 mg geodon back again with the 4 mg perphenzine i still had chills. now i am taking geodon 20 mg and will start taking zero mg perphenazine. since i already tried reducing the geodon and staying with the perphenazine and experienced chills, me and my psychiatrist decided i should stay with the geodon and stop taking the perphenazine.
2010625 tn?1329372056 Anyways talked to my mom and she said she thinks I am having anxiety which makes so much more sense. So either it is because the Geodon is just not working or it is a side effect of it. Anyways I have been all kinds of messed up since I started taking the Geodon, you probably are making a good choice by not trying the Geodon.
Avatar n tn They gave me Depakote Er divalproex sodium 500mg and also Geodon ziprasidone HC 40mg for the pain they told me it would help me out for the pain I was going throw. I started looking the pills up on the internet and found out they where used for people with Bipolar issue.
Avatar f tn I have been on Geodon since January 2, 2005 and have had a HORRIFIC experience! I gained 40 pounds in six months, need to wear glasses because of my blurry vision, foggy thoughts, bad short-term memory, extreme dry mouth, body spasms, facial tics, grinding teeth, palpitations, slurred speech, and extreme nausea. I have been to many doctors over the years and they all say that these side effects had nothing to do with my medication.
Avatar m tn Informing yourself of the potential side effects of medications and more importantly how they help is a good thing. You could go to the websites we have linked up or the medication websites themselves and discuss the information with your psychiatrist.
202665 tn?1248806733 Just curious, has anyone found that their medication has an effect on either their eyesight or the pressure in your eyes? Went to the eye doc and both distance and close up perscriptions have changes. also had very high pressures in my eyes. did not have these issues before taking all these medications. I'm wonderng if this is a side effect of medication...or me just getting older.
Avatar m tn s still not giving me a proper amount of sleep of which I have taken the past three nights. before i had my episode i could sleep without any problems whatsover. i feel the geodon is blocking my serotonin receptors totally as i've dropped down to 60 milligrams of geodon in hopes of normal sleep patterns to return. can the high dosage of geodon increase the chances of insomnia over time? i can't believe that an episode would cause this problem with insomnia.
Avatar m tn what meds are coverd on medicare that work very good for ur manic problems?? im on serquil 200 xr,s..there good but gain weight on them..i get them from family docky..wanting to find a shrink,,to put me on the right ones??PLESE HELP ME????????????????
Avatar f tn The appointment went okay. The doctor upped my dose from 50mg to 100mg. She said if that doesn't work then she may want to try Geodon, which is an anti-psyhotic drug. I hope that I don't need that!
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder since '95, but through a lot of research and getting completely sober I really feel that I actually have Borderline Personality Disorder with Severe Depression and Anxiety. I just got prescribed Lamictal because I've tried everything over the years and nothing works for long. I'm still on Topomax, Geodon, Prozac and Desyrel.
Avatar m tn seroquel doesn't come in the dissolve form but can be used as needed as is very good for some people with agitation and things like that. I use it for when everything gets to much and it makes me sleep it off.
Avatar f tn Cymbalta is of course an anti-depressent. Geodon is an antipsychotic used for bipolar. But all of them together would tend to create cognitive confusion. You should speak to your psychiatrist about having your medications adjusted. And here are two sites that might be of help as well: http://www.psycheducation.org/depression/meds/moodstabilizers.htm http://www.psycom.net/depression.central.bipolar.html Discuss all this with your psychiatrist.
Avatar m tn This is going to explain the side effects of Geodon better than I even can and I take it and experienced some of them but mostly only during the adjustment period. Side effects occur differently for each person. http://bipolar-disorder.emedtv.com/geodon/geodon-side-effects.
