Common Questions and Answers about What is the function of niacin in the body

niaspan

Avatar n tn Could the Niacin I took still be causing this or did the Niacin trigger something in my body? I was never allergic to shellfish in the past. What else could be at work here?
Avatar f tn If it's already in the multivitamin and then I take more in an iron supplement, will that be too much?
Avatar n tn I feel I can identify with your body pain. Mine started 2 years ago and is all over the body but most consistent in the legs. I have no numbness or weakness at all but sometimes the burning and pain are so bad, I wake up at night moaning!. So far I have had CT scans of the brain and the entire body, blood tests for various disases and for cacium or magnesium deficiency. No abnormalities found. The doctors don't know what else to do.
Avatar n tn s a known condition. Regarding flushing, do you have a diet that is high in niacin? It can sure do that.
Avatar m tn Definitely the fan is a HUGE help, along with restricting your diet on the items vicki mentioned. They went on for me for quite a while but it stopped and I'm sure it will for you too. I honestly just figured it was all the toxins getting out of my body in any way they could and that meant through my skin with all that sweating. It's probably not very scientific but it made me feel a little better about it! Hang in there - and congrats on the clean time! Well done!
Avatar f tn Graves attacks the thyroid and makes it over function. Since they cant get rid of the Graves they get rid of its target (the thyroid).
Avatar f tn Fortunately my lipids have never been bad and my larger coronaries are clear but the lipids are only a piece of the total cardiac picture and the possible side effects of meds far outweigh my other risks.I know you'll have the liver tests done as per your doctor schedule.Good luck.
Avatar n tn because -- at least according to the theory of why both statin drugs and niacin work -- it is the process of the liver being engaged breaking down the Niacin that leaves it too "busy" to produce the cholesterol. I am afraid that if I cut SR Niacin entirely, I will lose a good deal of the beneficial effect of having the Niacin "constantly around".
Avatar n tn its a condition known as encephalopathy - if its due to a cirrhotic liver its referred to as hepatic encephalopathy - when the liver is unable to function normally - it cant properly break down proteins all the way - the result is a build up of ammonia in the system - this impairs cognitive function - also referred to as brain fog
Avatar n tn Losing weight lowers the amount of insulin required by the body, so that can be helpful. If the Type 2 diabetes is ignored, the islet cells eventually may eventually put out very little insulin. Then insulin by injection or a pump is required. Both my grandmothers were type 2 diabetics, both overweight. One eventually required insulin injections, and the other did not. The one who didn't need insulin used pills instead, and watched her diet a little better than the other.
Avatar n tn So you would be wise to look for possible triggers to these episodes and see if you can stop the trigger instead of simply treating the episode. It is probably not dangerous unless you are one of the rare folks who actually loses consciousness, but it certainly makes you feel awful and it can affect reaction time when you are driving a car.

Avatar f tn I have now been clean for just over a year,I had anxiety and depression,I worked through this with my doctor and I also have addiction counselling which will be ongoing in my recovery, aftercare is the most important part of recovery,it is vital to staying clean. My depression and anxiety lasted a couple of months, but every now and then I can still get anxious that's why we need aftercare.
477837 tn?1457461992 This energy is in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate). Therefore, a good supply of NADH optimizes energy production in the body. Another function of NADH is its ability to help transform an amino acid called tyrosine into the important brain chemical dopamine. Dopamine is involved in mood, energy, sexual drive, concentration, memory and muscle movement.
Avatar n tn I took 500mg of niacin the reagular kind not the no flush kind It did cause me to have a niacin flush (which is typical)...it has never caused me trouble with mainia only made me flush wich eased anxiety and caused me to be tired afterwards...It might affect others diffently though. Nician is a B vitamin and B vitmins can cause you to more energetic you shouldn't take them in excess esp if you have bipolar....
Avatar n tn t have a clue what the causes are. in my case, a repeat, localized shock seems to suggest some kind of problem with a specific nerve, but the doctor found no issues with the nerve function. I thought a pattern might emerge when we pool together the data, it may will give me a talking point if i decided to address this issue with another doctor, or just help me to calm down and learn to live with it (it is really hard to ignore it though).
