Avatar n tn When my GERD was extreme, my doctor had me taking it twice a day, and suggested I take it when I heard the pots and pans come out for breakfast and dinner, as that is when I ate meals, other than a light snack. You have asked a question often asked, so I looked up the directives: "Prescription omeprazole comes as a delayed-release capsule, and packets of delayed-release (long-acting) granules for suspension (to be mixed with liquid) to take by mouth.
Avatar f tn Omeprazole lowers stomach acid essential for absorption of nutrients. The number of nutrient deficiencies that list fatigue as a symptom are numerous but include iron, vitamin B12, and magnesium. The newest warning out for PPI's like omeprazole is magnesium deficiency. Studies found deficiency within 1 year of taking the drug however a few showed deficiency within 3 months.
Avatar m tn Hi. I am taking omeprazole for laryngopharyngeal reflux for the past 2 days. I am supposed to take two pills daily, one before breakfast and one before dinner. Today, i started having this feeling that food is stuck in my chest and back of my throat but I don't have any problems swallowing. It is an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I did not have this symptom prior to starting the drug. Is this a side effect of the drug?
Avatar m tn Prior authorization means that before the plan will cover the drug, your doctor must contact your drug plan and let them know that the drug is medically necessary. Some drugs cost more than others, and often a cheaper drug might work just as well. Still other drugs may be safe, but work only for limited amounts of time. To be sure certain drugs are used correctly and only when really needed, Medicare drug plans may require a prior authorization.
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......

Avatar n tn I've followed this research, and from what I've learned the drug interaction of Plavix and PPI's (proton pump inhibitors) is not not that strong. I doubted the report from the start as I took Plavix and PPI's and my blood was as thin as tea, I bruised very, very easily, and the blood tests to determine my clotting factor wasn't changed by taking the two drugs.
Avatar n tn It is easy to find information regarding drug-drug interactions for omeprazole (Prilosec) and atorvastatin (Lipitor). The omeprazole appears to increase the bioavailability of the statin, increasing the risk of side effects. Does this mean that the interaction is like taking a higher dose of the statin, which would provide benefit for someone like me who only takes a low dose (10mg atorvastatin daily) and has no statin tolerance issues?
Avatar n tn because the drug has stopped working, your anxiety is going back up and the caffeine is making it worse by stimulating you even further; or, antidepressants can be stimulating to people. While Zoloft usually is sedating, it can be stimulating to a given individual, and so this could be a side effect of going up in dose.
Avatar f tn m always warned to take no drugs 14 hours before a drug test unless directed by a medical professional, and if a drug is taken, it must be reported before the test to the administrator. this sounds like a question that should be addressed to your Primary Care Provider.
Avatar n tn If you are taking omeprazole as treament for ulcer disease, you should be checked for H. pylori infection. If H. pylori was the cause for your ulceration and the infection has been successfully eradicated, then your risk of recurrent ulceration is less than 1% and you may not need any medications. This information is presented for educational purposes. Always consult your personal physician for specific medical questions. HFHSM.D.-rf *keywords; ulcer, H. pylori, omeprazole 0.
Avatar m tn Have you studied the published side effects of all your medications, e.g., the Omeprazole? I would guess yes, if not it is worth a try in the effort to self diagnose, given the problem medical science seems to be having. Have you posted the itch problem on the dermatology community? I'm not sure what they discuss there but it may be of some help. This community is at: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the replies. I have experienced no problem for the past 6mo and made the mistake that the drug was working optimally. I am now experimenting with times to take the drug but before a large meal is where I am going to start.
Avatar m tn I have seen several questions relating to 100% blockage of the RCA and can a person live. The answers I have seen are positive, however my question is, what is the probable long term prognosis as far as quality of life. I have recently undergone attempted angioplasty to try and unblock the RCA, due to continuing angina attacks, and unfortuneatly was unsuccesfull. I have been on a high chemical regime for some time and have been put on a new drug called Coralan (5mg).
Avatar m tn Since last 3 years I am suffering from cough associated with phlegm for most of the time in day with intermittent relief intervals. Most of the time the phlegm comes out without much strain. But the frequency is so high I had to stay near wash basin for sometime. When I lie down it triggers cough and during night this process is frequent. And it is there throughout the year.phlegm is present in my throat most of the time.
Avatar m tn Hi, I don’t think there’s any drug interaction between progesterone and anacin. The pain which you suffered is probably due to some acute gastritis/peptic ulcer pain which typically occurs in the night and is usually associated with nausea. If you take some antacids/omeprazole/pantoprazole, you’ll be fine. Please consult gastroenterologist/physician and you may need an endoscopy in case the symptoms recur on regular basis, otherwise a short course of anti-ulcer drugs should be fine.
Avatar n tn And I should ask, did this start when you entered menopause? Did you enter menopause because of something that happened, as you are a bit young to be past it already though of course it's different for different people? I ask because if your problem is hormonal, that is what needs addressing -- antidepressants don't deal with hormonal imbalances.
Avatar f tn Omeprazole is used to treat ulcers and acid reflux, so why this was prescribed is a mystery as it will not do your wrist any good. Did your doctor xray your wrist to determine what is causing the pain? He shouldn't treat you with anything until he knows what he is treating. Contact your doctor for an explanation, something's not right with this. Good luck and take care!
690060 tn?1247841741 And then a preliminary analysis of data from the COGENT trial, a trial dedicated to specifically examining clopidogrel with a PPI vs placebo, fails to suggest even the slightest signal of a negative interaction. For the FDA to then strengthen the warning of a interaction is baffling, to say the least." Also, IIRC the AHA and ACC haven't advised against the combination.
Avatar f tn Hiatal hernia is another possibility. Omeprazole is a good drug to combat this. Along with it you can try over the counter antacids. However I would recommend you see a doctor and take medication under a doctor’s supervision. Avoid heavy meals. Your husband can take several small meals in a day. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, fried food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal.
Avatar f tn I have Congestive Heart Failure and my sodium and potassium levels as many other levels are monitored with blood tests because of the drug cocktail I must take to stay on the sunny side of the planet, and know that a potassium deficiency is dangerous and a potassium excess is even more dangerous to someone with heart problems. That is a long explanation that you should be praised for your concern about potassium, and a reason why you need to ask your doctor.
Avatar m tn From what i've read, prilosec (omeprazole) may lower cholesterol levels by inhibiting the amounts of cholesterol producing enzymes. How long should you stop taking this drug? Maybe a few months to see a difference perhaps. When acid blockers were introduced onto the market, it was recommended not be taken for more than 6 weeks. A very good reason for that! Not to mention insufficient stomach acid is by far a more common cause of acid reflux.
