Common Questions and Answers about What is the drug geodon used for

geodon

Avatar n tn My sister has been taking geodon for 6 months now. She is wanting to come off of the drug because it is not working any more. The drug has made her vision worse and her heart is not acting right. She is scared to stay on it. I have done some research and have found nothing good about this drug. She has all side effects. She is on day 1 with NO geodon.
1202354 tn?1267655734 I am on Topamax for my migrains and for weightloss, well I am taking Geodon as well for depression, my question is.... If I am taking geodon will the Geodon which can cause mild weight gain counter act the weight loss with the topamax??
Avatar n tn Geodon is the only thing that works for me when I am psychotic, hallucinating or having delusions. The only side effect I get is a little sleepiness so I take it at night. I guess it's just different for everybody. I have tried many antipsychotics for acute episodes and they just don't work or the side effects are too much.
Avatar n tn According to the manufactuer many of the symtoms you are experiencing could be from the Geodon. I suggest you contact your doctor immediately and express your concerns to him/her. There are many alternatives available that do not cause these side effects and remember that everyone is different, so side effects are often different for each person. So another medication may not be as difficult for you and sometimes initial side effects fade after taking the medication for awhile. Good Luck!
Avatar n tn I was on Geodon for one month, went through the detox from hell, and a week later I still feel like ****. It affected my memory so bad, I couldn't remember what I was talking about 5 minutes ago. Dangerous drug.
Avatar f tn For instance, if you have psychosis with your episodes, and atypical antipsychotic might be a good place to start, but most of them can cause weight gain. Geodon is the exception, being weight neutral (and Abilify is almost as good apparently from the weight standpoint). If you're BP II, especially if you're mostly depressive, Lamictal is a great place to start, and is weight neutral.
202665 tn?1248806733 Geodon worked OK for me as an antipsychosis medication. I had to stop it however because I was one of those people who it affected the heart of. I too did not gain weight from it and was kind of like a zombie on it sometimes. It also made me feel drunk or high sometimes.
Avatar n tn It causes temors and chronice insomina when you get off it after more thana week. or even less...Please beware what geodon does. It is a highly potent drug. songwriterdelta. Go a websighte The Road Back and read it quickly about sudden withdrawal from such a drug.
Avatar n tn When prescribing meds or treatment, if there are any concerns or noteworthy precautions regarding the meds or treatment, information like instructions on what to watch out for and information is given along with the prescription of treatment. If the doctor doesn't give any instructions, just ask if there are any precautions, side effects or special instructions on how to take the medications.
Avatar n tn I have been on Wellbutrin off and on for 10 years, on Cymbalta for 4-5 years and Geodon for 4 years. I have been on Geodon 40 mg at times, but recently for the last year or so, on 20 mg. Recently, my psychiatrist bumped me up to 40 mg again. It seems like the last time I was on 40 mg, I also had anxiety and obsessive thoughts. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience with Geodon, since that is the only thing that has changed recently.
Avatar m tn This is going to explain the side effects of Geodon better than I even can and I take it and experienced some of them but mostly only during the adjustment period. Side effects occur differently for each person. http://bipolar-disorder.emedtv.com/geodon/geodon-side-effects.
Avatar m tn but i keep getting a notice that all the questions that can be asked for the day have been used, that no more questions addressed to this doctor can be asked for that particular day. what do i do? i need to ask him about medication-related chills or sensations of cold that i want to cease.
Avatar f tn thank you for your comment.
Avatar n tn To the poster on Abilify -- you should research drugs and not just think about them because they're getting a lot of advertising. Abilify is only approved for depression when all other meds have failed. It has a high side effect profile, and is usually used for augmentation, not stand alone.
497950 tn?1255863927 I am about to ask my dr for Geodon because it is cheaper for me with my insurance. Can anyone share their experience with Geodon?
Avatar m tn seroquel doesn't come in the dissolve form but can be used as needed as is very good for some people with agitation and things like that. I use it for when everything gets to much and it makes me sleep it off.
2010625 tn?1329372056 Anyways talked to my mom and she said she thinks I am having anxiety which makes so much more sense. So either it is because the Geodon is just not working or it is a side effect of it. Anyways I have been all kinds of messed up since I started taking the Geodon, you probably are making a good choice by not trying the Geodon.
Avatar f tn you need food to activate the drug Geodon has K?
Avatar f tn The appointment went okay. The doctor upped my dose from 50mg to 100mg. She said if that doesn't work then she may want to try Geodon, which is an anti-psyhotic drug. I hope that I don't need that!
Avatar n tn What was the Geodon prescribed for? There can be side effects from any drug, regardless of whether it is needed or not. I would also agree with xanweaver that it is a good question for Dr. Gould and that only psychiatrists should be prescribing anti-psychotic medication. They just have more training and expertise with those classifications of medications. Best wishes...
Avatar m tn That actually appears to be one side effect of Geodon but given that all (current) antipsychotics have anti-cholinergic side effects that could happen with any antipsychotic and given that people react differently to each one perhaps it was the medication you were transferred to rather than the Geodon helping it as Geodon is less likely to cause anti-cholinergic effects than some other antipsychotics.
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
Avatar f tn I have been taking it since April. The forgetting has to be from the geodon. I thought I might be drinking to much water at night so I drink more in the day. That didn't help. I also gained weight and can't lose it I have been eating salads and making smoothies. Ugh. I wish I was normal. Thank you.
Avatar f tn i am currently taking 10mg of olanzepine, and 200mg carbemazepine per day for bipolar. i am seeing a new psychiatrist who is strongly suggesting that i stop the olanzepine because i have greatly elevated levels of cholesterol and have gained 50 pounds. (have been on said meds for about 5 years). her 2 suggestions are abilify and ziprasidone--i know nothing about either of these meds and would greatly appreciate any info. and input you may have.
Avatar m tn What is it called where it only lasts for a moment or two where you start laughing hysterically but your eyes feel the sting like you are going to cry, but you can't, but at the same time you feel an emotion like you're being slung down a steep hill at 90MPH? (Yes, I have actually been slung down a steep hill at 90MPH so I can actually make that comparison LOL) This started happening seemingly at random after I took Geodon and hasn't stopped even after I quit taking the drug.
5032487 tn?1365824021 Trileptal is off label for BP, but it's used pretty frequently. It's apparently the new improved version of Tegretol, with fewer side effects. Topomax is also used off label, but it's gotten the nickname of dopomax because it causes cognitive issues in a fair number of people. It does tend to make you lose weight, though. I personally would go for Trileptal above Topomax, but I'm doing fine on Lamictal so it's a bit of a moot point.
Avatar f tn In re-reading the study, I see that it looked at just 4 new-generation ADs--Prozac, Effexor, Serzone, and Paxil. The authors used the freedom of information act to obtain ALL studies of the medications from the FDA (it says that most drug companies only publish information from successful studies). In fact, it seems that the main impetus here is to examine reporting bias, not drug efficacy.
Avatar f tn Then the negative side effects began emerging and I wound up in ER last Sat. My doctor had told me I could stop the drug if I didnt like it. The ER wasnt sure what to tell me to do. They left it up to me. So, I stopped it. They gave me Ativan to calm any anxiety. Last dose was Sunday and this is Wednesday. Feeling off, extreme anxiety, unwell. Is this common? It comes and goes, like right now Im a little calmer but earlier extreme anxiety. Is this normal?????
