What is the difference between omeprazole and nexium

Common Questions and Answers about What is the difference between omeprazole and nexium

nexium

Avatar n tn I have been on Aciphex 20 since 2007, with instant results. After changing Health Ins. , I am told by the current insurer that they won't cover Aciphex. I must go thru a step program, starting with Nexium, which my Doctor dosed at 40 mg instead of 20 mg, saying Nexium didn't come in 20 and the 40mg of Nexium is comparable to the 20 mg Aciphex . Questions: (1) Is the above true? (2) Are the side effects the same, and (3) What's the difference between the two.
Avatar n tn Besides the cost, is their truly a difference between Nexim and Prilosec. The active components in Nexium are esomprazole magnesium and in Prilosec are Omeprazole Magnesium. Also, Nexium comes in 20 mg and 40 mg capsules and Prilosec is sold over the counter in 20 mg tablets. My GI switched me to Nexium because Aciphex gave me terrible side effects and Protonix made my water brash symptoms ever worse. I have tried Prilosec in the past and it didn't have much of an effect for me.
Avatar m tn If you are taking a PPI such as prilosec or the generic omeprazole, peopl ehave reported the high BP as a side effect. I took 40mg omeprazole for 3 weeks and it elevated my BP.
974371 tn?1424653129 Then I had a left rib fracture of unknown cause. I stopped the Nexium and the pains went away. Waiting to see if the Omeprazole will affect me. I again woke up this morning sick and only took a half Levsin as it makes the dry mouth and throat worse and the thick phlegm I get is worse. This is just next to impossible to self treat at home. one would think if it is IBS, I would get some relief. Have now had to take the Xanax more often just due to all the extra stress.
Avatar f tn I have been on and off Nexium and Omeprazole off and on since 2015. I have had 2 endoscopies. The one in 2015 showed a small hiatal hernia and mild gastritis and the one in 2017 did not show a hernia and looked pretty good. I am grateful for any help.
1210142 tn?1266077031 Thank you very much for yout detailed posting- really appreciate it. I am quite familiar with all the side effects and everything you mentioned- have done some research too. Tried to stop Plavix and almost got another heart attack- I have 3 stents and the third one is in a "sandwich"- so to make this short, I may have to be on Plavix indefinite. The paradox is that after I started Pantoprazole, my chest pains disapeared 99%.
Avatar f tn by the way food i eat makes no difference anything or everything can trigger.it stress is the biggest trigger.let me know how you are doing.
Avatar f tn I take Nexium 40mg which is class b. I took it with my first 9 years ago and taking it now and im 37 weeks. Zantac, and tums didnt work for me either. ask your dr.
Avatar f tn I have been trying to google this and find out what I can in the difference between these 2 areas as far as where lesions present in different areas. So far I have only become more confused. Thank you in advance.
Avatar f tn No, it is not like that. Omeprazole base is the active form. In prilosec OTC, it is given in the form of omeprazole magnesium. In the body it gets converted in to omeprazole base before it starts acting. ================================================================ The information provided is for patients’ education only and is not a medical advice. Avatar m tn If you or a loved one suffered a heart attack after taking an acid reflux medication, you may have a legal claim Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are some of the most widely prescribed drugs in the United States, and generate around $14 billion in annual sales. Prilosec, Nexium and other PPIs work by reducing the amount of stomach acid produced by the glands in the stomach lining.

Avatar m tn I have seen several questions relating to 100% blockage of the RCA and can a person live. The answers I have seen are positive, however my question is, what is the probable long term prognosis as far as quality of life. I have recently undergone attempted angioplasty to try and unblock the RCA, due to continuing angina attacks, and unfortuneatly was unsuccesfull. I have been on a high chemical regime for some time and have been put on a new drug called Coralan (5mg).

Avatar n tn My mother was on long term acid blocker nexium (similar to prilosec (omeprazole) but more powerful) and these were some of the dozens of symptoms that she no longer suffers with since stopping nexium... severe major clinical depression, severe anxiety, severe constant fungal infections, homocysteine in imminent heart attack range, severe angina pain, severe stomach pain (nexium worsened her gastritis), sky high blood pressure - given less than 5 years to live by an international specialist.
Avatar f tn My best way to describe the baby movement (early movement) have you ever felt a gold fish swim in a bag of water?!?! That light swooshing is simular to the baby moving. Also when a fish pecks at the bag is simular to the kicks! I alway been able to feel the baby by laying on my belly (at this point of pregnancy it won't hurt baby)! If you lay on your belly and feel that fish movement you will know if it's gas or movement when you are not laying on your belly!
Avatar n tn Prevacid, Nexium, Protonix, Aciphex, Zantac, and Pepcid are all used to treat reflux. You can ask you doctor who will know best which one is least likely to cause you dizzyness.
Avatar n tn i switched and find the results are totally different.i have a hyatis hernia and reflux is a day to day problem .i did a scope recently and all was fine.does anybody else have this problem.my wife is totally convinced that it is my imagination .my reflux has returned with a case of running tummy.
Avatar n tn I have not heard of any link between nexium and cancer of the esophagus. There is a link between acid reflux and Barrett's esophagus that can ultimately turn into cancer if the condition is not controlled. That's typically why nexium is given - to knock down the reflux and control damage to the esophagus.
Avatar m tn m on day 12 off the norco 10s(vics when my script ran out) I am doing pretty good besides the sleep part but my question is...what is the difference between addiction and dependence?
